reflection on the destruction of nature

Quid estveritas?
What is truth?
That the world we are living in now is disparate from what our ancestors knew.
I can attest to that premise. When I was younger, I remembered how bitingly cold the
Christmas season was, that I have to wear a sweatshirt just to keep myself warm. But now, it’s a
different story. Just by that simple observation, I can say that we have abused Mother Earth.
I have heard countless stories about how a particular river turned from a water teeming
with life to a lifeless andpolluted canal; about how green and copious mountains and hills were
before; about how ample forests and other resources were; and about how unsoiled the
environment was before.
We ought to preserve and conserve our environment and its resources. It is not only for
our sake, but that of the whole world. Our responsibility is to be stewards; to subdue this earth
and have dominion over all creation. It is not, therefore, an option to squander that God-given
privilege to do whatever we please. So, it is imperative that we do our part in maintaining the
splendour of God’s creation.
If we would continue our mentality of indifference, in the near future, we and the
generation succeeding us would just rely on books and stories of old to provide aid in visualizing
how beautiful and serene this paradise-on-earth was before man destroyed it.
