vintage lace, new lace, and ribbon.

Top Left: Original skirt with zipper and waistband removed,

seam stitched closed and lace overlay gathered and basted

to outside top of old skirt.

Top Right: Pretty thrifted T-shirt with butterfly design in the

colors of the original skirt +bonus, design looks like lace!

Bottom, skirt, shirt, wide elastic (used for skirt waistband,)

and ribbons to design with.

Fold T-shirt in half, side seams together, cut off

neckband.

Cut sleeves off, beginning about 1/2 inch from

shoulder seam to bottom of armscye

You will use the cut off sleeve as a pattern for

the lace—on the right, the underarm seam is

cut open and sleeve laid flat.

I noticed the “corner” of the lace

(which was a vintage tablecloth)

was almost the right shape and

size for the sleeve pattern.

I decided to use the finished

edge of the lace and lay it over

the top of the t-shirt

I folded the cut off sleeve in half,

laid it on the folded lace corner

and cut the lace longer to make

an elbow-length sleeve Above shows the new lace sleeve pinned in place on

the outside of the raw edge of the shirt.

Left shows the new sleeve hand-stitched in place.

Bottom shows the “bottom” of the armscye—I just

stitched the edge of the lace together at the bottom

and left the rest of the sleeve open at the bottom.

Left shows the shape of the new

sleeve. Right shows both sleeves

sewn in place.

Bottom shows flat lace slightly gathered and pinned prior

to stitching to raw neckline.

Shirt was tried on and pinned where the bottom “V” shape was to be

cut. Top pics show the center pin and the side pin.

Bottom pic shows shirt after V shape was cut off. Later, I decid-

ed to make the back V less deep so it wouldn’t turn up when I

was wearing it, then, the same lace from the neckline was

sewn around entire bottom of shirt.

Details, Left: 1/8th inch, peach colored

ribbon was woven through part of the

sleeve, gathered and tied into a bow.

Raw edge of lace sleeve hem was cut

with pinking sheers to get rid of straight

edge.

Overskirt pulled back to show original

skirt.

Below: Lace detail at bottom of shirt,

overskirt actually is open in the front and

underskirt is about 6 inches shorter than

lace.
