Why the iPad?Access knowledge and information through a vast range of apps that encourage creativity, collaboration, interactivity, and cater to a range of learning styles;

Includes features that make it easier for students who have vision and hearing issues, a physical learning disability or dyslexia;

Increased productivity through quick loading of apps and minimal time wasted in booting up and accessing the internet;

The iPad operating system is very reliable;

Robust and portable;

Easy to troubleshoot and manage;

Ability to personalise learning and provide work targeted at the correct level for the student;

Simple communication facilities for collaboration with peers, teachers and experts in a local, national and global context;

Enhanced digital communication with parents. Students afforded opportunities to bring their learning home.

Aims of a P-6 iPad Program

By 2020 all students have the opportunity to learn in a 1-to-1 classroom environment.

Enhance students' love of learning.

Improve academic results.

Students (and teachers) are immersed in investigating, creating and communicating using ICT.

Students (and teachers) are able to operate and manage ICTs effectively and efficiently.

Students (and teachers) are responsible digital citizens.

Integrated into the learning

Digital Literacy Technology is not a treat

We need to teach kids how to detach from technology and when it is appropriate to use technology

The concept of screens down, devices will not be used all the time in class - balance

Students need to learn that technology can be a distraction - we know it, but few kids realise it...

- have social and cultural intelligence

- create products and solutions

- collaborate and communicate with and without technology.

Innovation in spaceFlexible, innovative and 21st century learning spaces

Security, theft and damageDevices will be securely stored during class time and break times.

Students and parents are responsible for the security and safety of devices on the way to and from school. It is a requirement that devices have a protective case and a waterproof sleeve for transit to and from school.

Parents are encouraged to seek or review their personal insurance to ensure that devices are covered at home and, to and from school.

Network connection - How?Students will be provided with access to the network once forms and payment have been returned. Participating fee $50.

Technical support will be provided to assist students in connecting devices to the network.

Initially students will be connected as a group once the majority of forms/payments have been received.

Individual students will be connected afterwards as needed.

Technical support will continue to be provided to assist students with any issues.

3G/4G connections are not allowed as we do not want students accessing unfiltered Internet while at school.

Charging

Students will be required to charge their device overnight.

Cables for charging are not to be brought to school.

In some circumstances we may provide access to a charger if needed.

Inappropriate use

The Charter and Agreement outlines the sanctions for inappropriate use of devices and network. Students and their parents are required to sign agreements that these policies will be adhered to and that consequences of policy breaches are understood before network access is provided.

TimeThe amount of time spent on a device will vary depending on the learning intent and objective. The iPad is only one of the tools for learning students will engage with each day.

How do I access the BYO program?

Your first step is to read, understand and sign the program charter and agreement.

EOI should be submitted by the 3rd November.

Parents will be notified in the last week of school if their child has been allocated a place in a BYO class for 2018.

Required app list will be sent with the acceptance letter.

Support for parentsInformation evenings, online resources and parent forums will be available to enable parents to access the advice and support they feel they need.
