Friday 6th April 2018

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

I hope you all enjoyed two consecutive four day

weeks and the long weekend in between. The

weather could not have been better for the last little

bit of summer and before the end of daylight saving.

Last week I mentioned the High School Musical, Okla-

homa, in the newsletter. My information was based

on reports of those who had been to the Wednesday

performance. Having witnessed this spectacular per-

formance on Thursday evening, I need to add to my

earlier commentary. The standing ovation given to

the cast at the end of the performance was justified

and then some. From the youngest performer who

was in an ensemble, to the dancers, to the main

characters, all enjoyed themselves immensely and

their character portrayal and Southern American ac-

cents were incredible. The choreography, singing,

dancing, music and acting blew me away and by all

accounts everyone who saw the production agreed.

My congratulations once again to all concerned.

This week the HSC students started their second block

of assessments which they will continue until the end

of term. They have been working well and should see

these tests as opportunities to check their progress

and to establish if they are on the right track. Their

teachers remain available to assist in any way possi-

ble. They are hoping to be used as a resource during

these preparations.

Voting for the Junior Executive has taken place this

week and I know that the Year 9 students look for-

ward to finding out these results. The induction assem-

bly will take place on the second Friday of Term 2. We

then look forward to those elected and their portfolios

continuing the great job they have done this term.

Those who have been working towards being House

Captains have been hard at work getting their houses

ready for the Inter-House Music Competition which

started this week in assembly.

Year 10 students attended the Love Bites programme

on Thursday. The aim of the day is to increase aware-

ness and give students an understanding of relation-

ship violence as well as sexual assault, and hopefully

we will challenge some beliefs, attitudes and myths

that perpetuate abuse and unhealthy relationships.

We hope to give students some strategies to:

• avoid issues in their own relationships

• help them support their friends in their relationships

AND

• highlight the fact that they can make CHOICES

around their behaviours in relationships

Our goal is to promote healthy respectful relationships.

The students who are going to India with the Reddam

House International Community Service Project are

away this weekend at a training camp for the trip.

More on that next week.

Have a good last week of term,

Dave Pitcairn

MATZAH BAKE HEBREW CLASS—BY TARYN HERMAN—YEAR 7 STUDENT

On the 6th of March the year 7 Hebrew class participated in a matzah bake. This event was a great way to

learn about how matzah is made, and to take an insight into how the Jewish people lived back then. The stu-

dents were asked to wear aprons and hats to keep our hair back whilst baking. The event started off with a

demonstration from some of the students in the class. The students learnt how to mix, flatten, and bake the

matzah. Once the students started to make the matzah, the class listened to some festive

music and worked collaboratively to make their matzahs. We were very lucky to be able

to have the opportunity to do this matzah bake, and the students thoroughly enjoyed it.

Each student made a unique matzah, and after they were placed in the oven and baked

to perfection, the students had a chance to taste their creations. It was a incredible day,

and it was something that the year 7 Hebrew class will remember forever.

REDDAM SKI CAMP

This camp has been designed by skiers/boarders to give stu-

dents maximum time on the snow. We will be staying at

Snowy Gums Lodge at Smiggins and skiing at Perisher. Subject

to conditions we aim at skiing 9.00am to 5.00pm each day.

Staying on snow allows us to monitor conditions across the

entire resort. On the blue sky days we will be there for the 1st

lifts and if there are blizzards we can keep our students warm

and dry in the lodge and avoid the chaos on the road up to the

ski fields. With experienced and enthusiastic teachers, the

students will have a great time on the snow!

Please see Mr Kable for a booking form or email:
