TEXAS CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY Housing & Residence Life

Hall Directors at Texas Christian University (TCU) are provided a stimulating and enriching work experience as members of a strong housing professional team within Housing & Residence Life, a valuable component of the University’s Student Affairs family. Located just five minutes from downtown Fort Worth, Texas, TCU is a vibrant community poised for amazing growth. Our lively residential community allows you to learn and grow as a housing professional,

and you will reap the rewards of being part of a university that is forward-moving and ahead of the curve.

Our Housing & Residence Life team creates and implements programs and services specifically designed to encourage residents to contribute to their communities and appreciate the diversity in TCU’s residence halls, our campus and society as a whole.

The position I have as Hall Director is rewarding in so many ways, most notably in the experience I am receiving. Through my position here at TCU I am having the opportunity to work with all kinds of students, from all kinds of backgrounds, with various levels of motivation and interests and learning how to best serve and develop each in the way best suited to them. Ross Beitzel, Hall Director

I appreciate the talented staff across the division who are willing to help with just about anything from a student concern to presenting on a topic. Knowing that you can lean on anyone from any office is something I cherish. The common factor you will see is that at the end of the day we are all here to help our students achieve success and that is shown through these partnerships.

TCU—A great place to be a student affairs professionalAs a new student affairs professional, you want to be in a dynamic environment. At TCU, you will see a devoted focus on developing relationships, meeting student needs and creating a community that cares for one another. Chancellor Victor Boschini’s vision of TCU as a robust residential campus that houses nearly two-thirds of its undergraduate population on campus means a significant growth and development of the residential program. Between 2012-2017, the next phase of growth will take place and include 1,900 new beds in our Worth Hills Village.

As a Hall Director at TCU, you will enjoy being a part of a strong housing and student affairs staff. You will have a great deal of autonomy for decisions in your hall, and a great deal of support from your colleagues. Our hope is for hall directors to become a generalist in their work. It is important to experience many opportunities within Housing and Residence Life, but also with other university and division initiatives. You will be encouraged to participate in departmental and divisional committees, and you will be provided with many professional development opportunities.

TCU Pride Working with a highly active and engaged student body has surpassed many of my previous experiences. You are surrounded by students who are highly motivated to connect socially, achieve academically, and strive for excellence. This creates a rich atmosphere of conversation and opportunity for learning with students and myself.

It is amazing how much energy that TCU students bring to the table every day. The excitement they have about the on-campus events and making the most of their time at TCU is infectious. It is impossible to have a bleak, average, and predictable day… and that’s just the way I like it.

TCU and Fort WorthFort Worth once was a rough-and-tumble frontier town, dusty and lawless, home to the brave and the brawling, the soldier, the frontiersman, the outlaw. Today, Fort Worth is the one of the largest cities in Texas and the 16th-largest city in the United States. It’s a destination shaped by a commitment to its downtown revitalization and urban renewal, a dedication to its world-renowned cultural arts district, rich pride in its Western heritage and a loyalty to major-league sports and family attractions. Cowboys and Culture isn’t just a tagline, it’s a way of life for our citizens and provides a completely unique guest experience. Nowhere else can you find the western heritage that is so quintessentially Texas, beautifully preserved and honored through our Stockyards National Historic District and Sundance Square in Downtown. The city leaders who celebrated Fort Worth as “Where the West Begins” also had the vision to establish us as the cultural destination of the Southwest. Our Cultural District is home to five world class museums, in a park-like greenspace, within walking

distance of one another. All are internationally renowned in their own right: the Kimbell Art Museum, the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame. Add to that our coveted Van Cliburn Piano Competition, Bass Performance Hall, independent galleries, world-class symphony, ballet and theatre programs. Our reputation for being safe and friendly makes us a perfect getaway for families as well. The Fort Worth Zoo is a top five zoo in the nation and a national draw, and our proximity to major league attractions like Texas Motor Speedway, Rangers Ballpark, Cowboys Stadium and Six Flags makes us the perfect place to stay the night. Cowboys and Culture rarely combine in such a harmonious mix, but Fort Worth is rare city that celebrates both in BIG Texas style.(Courtesy of www.fortworth.com)

T C U O v e r v i e wFort Worth is a great city for a young professional. It has the small town feel with lots of culture and many opportunities to enjoy life away from the university.
