The Merage School Business ProgramsInspired Leadership, Digitally DrivenAs our lives become more digitally mediated, we must adapt both ourselves and our businesses for the disruption inherent in the digital

environment. With this vision in mind, The Paul Merage School of Business has completely reframed its curricula to give students the

high-caliber, holistic preparation they need to become effective leaders in a digitally-driven world.

Top industry executives continually provide the Merage School input on how they see their respective industries changing through the

impact of technology. Our transformed curricula reflect new business needs in the contemporary world, focusing on actionable ideas and

building a new set of competencies suited to the digital age. Experience-based decision-making skills are integrated into the curriculum

with data-driven decision-making at the forefront. Experiential learning components continue to provide real-world education, allowing

teams of students to immerse themselves in valuable projects with area companies.

Full-Time MBA (FTMBA)FTMBA is an experientially based, 2-year general management

program that provides solid training in core business areas

including finance, marketing, information technology, strategy and

operations with a focus on digital transformation. Through elective

courses and certificate programs, deeper knowledge is developed

in function or industry specialties. Students in this program

average five or more years of professional work experience and

come from locations around the globe.

Fully-Employed MBA (FEMBA)FEMBA is designed to meet the needs of working professionals.

The program can be completed in 24 to 33 months and provides

the strengths of our full-time program delivered on a part-time

basis. Students in this program average five years of professional

work experience and are available for immediate employment

throughout the year.

Executive MBA (EMBA)The EMBA is designed for experienced managers, senior-level

professionals and entrepreneurs seeking CEO-level insights. This

21-month program emphasizes a functionally integrated approach

for senior-level management with the option to do a specialization

in healthcare management. Students in this program average 16

years of professional work experience.

Master of Finance (MFin)The MFin is a one-year intensive, full-time program that provides

extensive, practical training for quantitative and analytical jobs

in the field of finance. Graduates have a strong understanding

of modern finance needed to solve complex problems currently

found in the field of finance. The program prepares students for

entry and mid-level finance positions such as risk management,

asset and wealth management, real estate investment, and

forecasting. Students have up to two years of work experience.

Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) The MSBA is a one-year intensive, full-time program that prepares

graduates for careers in big data and analytics. The STEM

certified curriculum includes three essential areas of training: data

management, analytics methods, and business context. Students

learn how to handle large data sets, and apply a range of analytics

to gain business insights relevant to a specific business context

in either data, marketing or operations analytics. A two-quarter

long capstone course provides an opportunity to gain experience

solving real business problems. Students come from highly

quantitative backgrounds and have up to three years of work

experience.

roles in technology, science and engineering-based organizations.

developing business skills through a series of fundamental

and elective courses. Students have up to two years of work

experience.

Recruiting International StudentsThe Merage School takes pride in our ability to attract top

MBA and MS talent from around the world. Our international

students comprise over 40% of our student population. They

have graduated from top universities in their home countries,

have unique multiple language capabilities, cross-national

perspectives, and functional and industry expertise.

Do not let concerns over the visa process prevent you from

hiring the best and brightest graduates available. U.S. law

provides several ways for employers to hire international MBA

and MS students and graduates.

Curricular Practical Training and InternshipsCurricular Practical Training (CPT) provides students holding

an F-1 visa authorization to work at paid, full-time summer

internships and part-time jobs during the second year of

their MS or MBA program. Employers go through the same

process needed for hiring domestic students and are required

to provide an offer letter outlining the details of employment.

Students submit paperwork to the UCI International Student

Center and enroll in a special course to meet the CPT eligibility

requirements.

Optional Practical Training and Full-Time Employment after GraduationOptional Practical Training (OPT) provides students holding an

F-1 visa authorization to work in the U.S. for up to 12 months

following graduation on either a full or part-time basis and up

to 36 months for STEM certified programs (MSEM, MSBTM,

MSBA). As with CPT there are no special requirements for the

employer during the hiring process just a detailed offer letter

and the completion of the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification

form. Students must obtain a work authorization card (EAD) by

graduation from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service

(USCIS) to be eligible for this option.

H-1B Visas and Longer Term, Full-Time EmploymentDuring the OPT period, employers can choose to extend a

graduate’s work assignment by sponsoring them for a work visa.

The H-1B is the most popular work visa available to international

graduates and provides work authorization in three-year

increments for up to a total of six-years. The employer must

submit a visa petition to the USCIS. Petitions may be submitted

as early as April 1 of each year but no sooner that 6-months

before the employment start date. Normal processing times can

vary. The USCIS offers a 15-day premium processing option for

an extra filing fee.

On-Campus Recruiting Procedures for MBA, MSEM, MSBTM, MFin & MSBAThe Merage School Career Center offers customized recruiting

services so you can make the most of your recruiting efforts.

Recruiter Dashboard Your entire recruiting process is managed through our online

recruiter services website. You will use this site to post

and maintain your job descriptions and company contact

information, access the resume databases, request your

recruiting and presentation dates, monitor real-time student

sign-ups for your scheduled events, download resumes, select

candidates for interviews, and keep an ongoing history of your

recruiting activities at the Merage School.

Once you have registered and requested your dates, you

will receive a confirmation email. It will contain your date

confirmations and other important information about your

proposed recruiting activity including deadline dates for

submitting job descriptions, downloading resumes of interested

candidates, selecting your candidates and finalizing your

interviewing schedule. You will also use this system to schedule

information sessions, track and store all job postings with us.

Job DescriptionsAll recruiting begins with the submission of a detailed job

description that includes an overview of your firm, position

responsibilities, and candidate requirements. For on-campus

recruiting we request your job descriptions be submitted four

to six weeks prior to your preferred recruiting dates. Recruiting

schedules become active for student sign-ups only after

complete job descriptions are received by our office.

Interview SchedulesOn-campus recruiting is one of the most effective ways to recruit

talent at the Merage School. Interviews are scheduled Monday

through Friday and typically run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in

the Career Center. Extended hours are available upon request.

Refreshments are provided throughout the day and lunch is

provided for full-day schedules. Interview schedules may be

customized to accommodate the length of interviews you prefer.

Let us know your special needs when you request your recruiting

dates and we will accommodate you.

Second Round InterviewsSecond round interviews typically take place at the employer’s

location. However, the Career Center may also be used. We

recommend that you coordinate your second round interviews

with our academic calendar to ensure that you avoid scheduling

conflicts that may cause students to miss class, mid-terms or

final exams

Job OffersWe believe it is important to allow candidates adequate time

to make thoughtful decisions on job offers. It is important that

the student and the company negotiate a mutually agreeable

time frame for considering and making a career decision. We

recommend giving graduating students until December 1st or

at least three weeks from the time a written offer is provided,

whichever is later. First-year students should be given until

February 15th, or at least one week from the time a written offer

is provided, which ever is longer, to decide on an internship offer.

Contact UsPlease contact us at 949.824.8464 with any questions you may

have throughout the recruiting process.

Please visit our website for the most current information as there

may be calendar updates throughout the year.

UC Irvine Accounting Recruiting Policies2018-19 Recruiting Season Recruiting services for Accounting candidates are provided jointly by the Merage School Career Center and the UCI Career Center

allowing organizations to recruit all business career focused students regardless of academic major. All firms are expected to review and

follow the UC Irvine Career Center Recruitment Policies as well as the UC Irvine Accounting Recruiting Policies to create consistency

across accounting firms that recruit at UCI and to ensure fairness in the recruiting process for students.

Job DescriptionsAlthough undergraduate and MPAc students may interview on

the same schedule, separate positions should be posted for

each degree level. MPAc students are considered new students

regardless of where they completed their undergraduate studies

and therefore have no GPA. When posting positions for MPAc job

posting(s) screening criteria for GPA should be left blank.

Student Interview Eligibility Master in Professional Accountancy (MPAc) students may

interview during the Fall Recruiting Season for either a full-time

position or a winter internship. Graduating seniors may interview

during the Fall Recruiting Season for either a full-time position or

a summer internship if they plan on attending a masters program.

Based on their acceptance into a program, each firm may decide

to extend full time offers or summer internship offers.

Second Round InterviewsEmployers scheduling second-round interviews are expected

to give a minimum of three (3) full business days’ notice of a

second-round interview in an off-campus location (Example: for a

Wednesday interview, students must be notified by the previous

Thursday.) In all cases, employers must offer alternative dates,

without negative consequences, for a second-round interview if

the date originally suggested by the Employer interferes with a

student’s first-round interview on campus, an exam, or other valid

appointment. Students are not permitted to cancel first-round

interviews to attend second-round interviews. Students who do

so face suspension of their campus recruiting privileges.

Job OffersUpon the conclusion of summer internships, the firms may issue

full time employment offers to their own interns. No full-time

offers may be extended in tandem with a summer internship

offer. Students are encouraged to decline a firm’s offer as soon

as they have decided they will not accept that offer. This may be

communicated via email, indicating which firm’s full time offer was

accepted (if it is known at the time.)

Firms will not approach another firm’s interns or invite them to

summer recruiting events during the summer internship period.

Exceptions to these policies relate to programs that firms

sponsor to increase the number of underrepresented minority

candidates in the accounting profession.

Summer Leadership Programs (SLP) Firms may extend a full-time offer to SLP participants entering

their senior year or the MPAc program. They may extend a winter

or summer internship offer to SLP participants following the

established SLP deadlines. Students who participate in the SLP

programs may by-pass the on-campus interviews, and be invited

directly for an in-house interview as part of the regular winter/

summer internship or full-time hiring timeline.

Student Accounting Organizations And Firm-Sponsored Events We encourage the firms to work with the student accounting

organizations to sponsor events where students and firm

representatives have the opportunity to gain more knowledge

about the firm culture and clients.
