Introduction A data/chart recorder is an electronic instrument that
keeps track of various measurements required in industrial and laboratory environments.
It is used to record: process measurements for such variables as
temperature, pressure, flow, pH, and humidity scientific and engineering data for applications such as
testing and diagnostics, statistical analysis, and other laboratory work that requires a
graphic or digital record of variables

Circular Chart Recorders
A circular chart recorder records data in a circular format. The paper is spun beneath one or more pens. The pens are deflected in proportion to the varying signal resulting in a circular chart.
Circular chart recorders are ideal for batch processes where a set process time is known.
The charts are normally designed to rotate in standard time periods, such as 1 hour, 24 hours, 7 days, etc., although many recorders are flexible enough to accommodate non-standard time periods.

Strip Chart Recorders Strip chart recorders consist of a roll or strip of
paper that passes linearly beneath one or more pens. As the signal changes, each pen’s deflection records the process being measured in the form of a chart.
Well suited to recording of continuous processescommonly used in both laboratory and process-
measurement applications.
XY Recorders XY recorders accept two inputs and create a chart or graph of one input
versus the other. They are commonly used to determine the relationship between the two inputs.
For example in a chemical process, an XY recorder might be used to monitor the effect temperature has on the pressure of the process.
Hybrid RecordersA hybrid recorder can function as a recorder or data
logger. Like a standard recorder the hybrid recorder can generate a chart of the inputs.
However, it can also produce a digital stamp of the data similar to a data logger.
Commonly available in multichannel designs although one print head normally handles all channels.
This makes the hybrid recorder a cost effective solution for multichannel systems although the response time is not as fast as recorders which have a unique pen for each channel.
Paperless RecordersPaperless recorders are one of the latest types
of recorders to emerge on the market.Paperless recorders display the chart on the
recorders' graphic display rather than print the chart on paper.
The data can normally be recorded in internal memory or to a memory card for later transfer to a computer.
BARDON TEMPERATURE/PRESSURE RECORDER
TEMPERATURE ELEMENT It senses temperature changes by using the thermal
expansion principle Temperature changes cause thermal expansion and
contraction of mercury in the bulb When heated mercury expands, it increases an volume,
causing the bourdon tube to exert mechanical force. The bourdon tube movement is transmitted through
mechanical linkage to a recording pen
STATIC PRESSURE ELEMENT Introduced through the tubing into the static pressure element
causes the element to unwind Conversely, a reduction of pressure within the tubing causes the
element to wind up more tightly This motion is transmitted through the lever arm assembly and its
intermediate linkage to the pen shaft, which controls the movement of the recorder pen
The pen transcribes the motion onto a rotating chart to permanently record changes in static pressure

APPLICATIONS
Telephone Record the conversations of others, whether they occur
in person or over the telephone. Cameras Taking photos or making audio or video recordings. In Class used to record a lecture, presentation, or similar activity Microphone to convert the sound into an electrical signal that was
amplified and used to actuate the recording stylus.
These device are ideal for high-performance applications requiring accuracy such as those used in :textile and food machineryindustrial ovensenvironmental chamberspharmaceutical equipmentMetalworkingindustrial furnacesfarm machinery
Radio Industry pre-record many sections of program content such as advertising. enabled the creation and duplication of complex, high-fidelity,
long-duration recordings of entire programs
Computer There are many different digital audio recording and processing
programs running under several computer operating systems for all purposes, from professional through serious amateur to casual user.
