• With one in 10 children developing an allergy before their first birthday, Australia has one of the highest rates of food allergies in the world.

• For many, managing severe allergies doesn’t stop when you grow up. Individuals in their teens and 20’s are at the greatest risk of an allergic reaction.

• Over half a million Aussies have a diagnosed food allergy and research shows this number is growing.

• Whilst 90% of food allergic reactions are caused by 10 foods, there are more than 170 foods known to be triggers. Bananas, kiwi fruit, mustard and celery just to name a few!

• Do you know the signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction? It’s surprising how many Aussies don’t. Educate yourself and others with this video during Food Allergy Week.

• We’ve all been guilty of a self-diagnosis on the Internet. But if you suspect you have a food allergy, it’s important to consult your general practitioner (GP).

• Do you have a family or friend with a food allergy? Make sure you know when and how to administer their adrenaline (epinephrine) autoinjector.

• Be careful, not fearful. Allergies can be life threatening but there are a number of strategies you can put in place to help reduce the risk of a reaction. Learn how to manage your allergy here.

Afternoon Pick Ups From 25 May 2020

Lake Cathie Public School

Dear Families To cater for increased traffic and adult social distancing requirements when all students return next Monday, the following changes will take place to support the safety of students, parents and staff.

1. There will be split pick up times after school each day. Parents are requested to not enter the school’s internal courtyard or classroom areas. Please wait near the main crossing area, observing social distancing requirements.

2. Bus children and OOSH children will be taken to their line up area as usual at 2.45pm. OOSH will commence their role marking ASAP. Buses will leave the site as soon as they are given the all clear from school staff. Enhanced cleaning on Busways buses helps ease hygiene concerns. Where possible, more students on buses would reduce vehicle congestion at pick up time.

3. All students being picked up by parents or family members will assemble in house groups (RED, BLUE, GREEN & YELLOW) in the central courtyard.

4. At 2.45pm, students in RED & BLUE house groups will be

brought out to the crossing area for pick up. Please move on promptly and carefully. 10 km/h please.

5. Once the first group of cars have left the school site, parents of students in the remaining house groups can drive into the school from 2.55pm.

6. At 3.00pm, students in GREEN & YELLOW house groups will be brought out to the crossing area for pick up.

7. These pick up arrangements will be in place until further notice. Staff will be managing the new pick Up arrangements.

8. Please see important requests for families using Active OOSH services on the next page.

OOSH Routine Procedures - Please read A timely reminder as children start to return to school full-time. At times there can be confusion on how students are to get home or where they are to go at the end of the school day, especially if there has been a last-minute change to this routine. This is extremely important if bus travel is involved as we would hate students to miss a bus or worse still, catch a bus when there is no one to meet them at the other end. Please understand that Active OOSH and Lake Cathie Public School are completely separate entities, therefore if there is a change of routine you must tell both OOSH and the School as required. Buses leave very quickly after the bell therefore this information needs to be received by the School before the end of day. Please notify the School of any changes by 2.15pm by telephoning 6584 8060 if:

• Your child/ren normally attends OOSH but you would like them to catch the bus

• Your child/ren normally catches bus but you would like them attend OOSH

• Your child/ren normally catches bus or attends OOSH but you will be picking them up

Thank you for your assistance and understanding.

Kind regards, Jock Garven Principal

School Uniform Update

OUR SCHOOL UNIFORM IS VALUED As a school we value the spirit, pride and identity of our students and staff. We place a high value on students being in correct uniform, which supports the self-esteem and connectedness of students and the overall image of our great school. We have a small but growing selection of pre-owned uniform items sometimes needed by families facing financial hardship. Thanks to the many families who have donated old uniforms that are no longer needed. Further donations would be very welcome.

WINTER IS HERE… The Uniform Shop is running out stock of boys and girls long pants and sports long pants due to very small numbers of sales over the last five years as well as the increased price of purchasing new stock. This means there is limited stock and size availability of these items.

Even though our climate is quite moderate, to stay warm, students can wear the following:

Girls Navy blue stockings under the tunic dress or box pleat shorts.

Navy blue long pants from Big W, Best and Less etc.

Boys Navy blue long pants from Big W, Best and Less etc.

There will be a price increase from the beginning of 2021 on the following uniform items:

• School Jacket increase of $7.00. New Jacket price will be $45.00 • Sports Shorts increase of $1.00. New Sports Short price will be $20.00

A reminder that:

- Sports shorts are only to be worn on SPORTS DAYS - Joggers are only to be worn on SPORTS DAYS. Black leather shoes are required for all other times. - Non-uniform Items – are only permissible under special circumstances and will be notified through our

newsletters. Eg. Out of uniform fundraising/Awareness Raising day like Red Heart Day. - Layering: if you are layering with warmer items please ensure they are navy blue and are worn under our

school uniform items. - Hooded jackets are not to be worn at school.

Uniform shop will reopen from Tuesday 26 May for online orders only Order forms and payment through the school website.
