2013 —2014 Alpha Home, Inc. Annual Report
A Message
As the Board Chair of Alpha Home, I have witnessed the positive
reality of recovery from addiction to alcohol and illicit and
prescription drugs. Individuals whom embrace recovery achieve
improved mental and physical health and form stronger relationships
with family and friends. As a society, we need to make more people
feel like recovery is possible.
These women and men—mothers and fathers, daughters and sons,
sisters and brothers—need to know that help is available. Recovery
is possible. Treatment works.
On behalf of those we serve, thank you.
Sincerely yours,
Gaye Litton
2013- 2014 Chair
Alpha Home, Inc. Board of Directors
Rebuilding Lives... Reuniting Families...
At Alpha Home, our goal is to provide individuals with an
affordable, safe haven where they can identify and
overcome the core issues underlying their chemical
addictions, regain their independence, and rejoin their
communities as healthy, whole people. By incorporating
our core values of spirituality, integrity, discipline,
dedication and productivity into our everyday treatment
approach, we focus on the whole person—not just the
addiction—and give those we serve the best chance for
responsible, long-term sobriety.
Alpha Home Programs
Residential Substance Use
Disorder Treatment (women only)
47 beds in two facilities. Average
length of stay: 70 days. Specialized
treatment program in a safe,
home-like environment, providing
opportunity for recovery through
gender-specific individual and group
counseling and education.
Outpatient Substance Use
Disorder Treatment (women and
men)
Average length of stay: four to six
months. Outpatient program is for
clients in need of treatment who
have the skills and support to
recover without residential care.
Gender-specific counseling provided.
Family First
Intervention program for expecting
and parenting women and men who
are using are at a high risk for
substance abuse, with the goal of
reducing the number of children and
families whose lives are affected by
alcohol and other drugs.
Recovery Support Home
15 beds. Average length of stay: 120
days. In collaboration with
Crosspoint, Inc., a safe and sober
living environment for women in
outpatient treatment who have no
safe place to continue recovery.
Women must work and save toward
independent living.
Alumnae Association
A peer-run group offering
encouragement and support to each
other and mentorship of women still
in treatment.
Successful treatment requires a person to call upon many things: humility, determination, openness,
willingness to change, and perseverance. Recovery itself is often referred to as a ―process‖ because there is
so much to learn and relapse can occur many times, which means a person must start the process of
recovery all over again.
At Alpha Home, when someone comes through treatment once and then comes back following a relapse, we
don‘t see this as sign of failure but a sign that the individual has exactly what it takes to succeed. We also see
this as a sign that we have built a trusting and positive relationship with that individual.
One such client completed outpatient services successfully. However, she returned to us several months
later after relapsing to cocaine use—she asked us for a ‗‖second chance‖ at treatment. Of course, Alpha
Home gave her that chance.
This time, she went into residential treatment first and then followed up with another round of outpatient
care. She took a closer look at factors contributing to her relapse and areas she didn‘t address fully during
her initial treatment. Today, she is an active member of our Alumnae Association and reaches out as a
mentor to clients currently in treatment. She is also investing in her personal development and is enrolled in
a local college pursuing a business degree. She is employed, helps care for her aging mother, and still finds
time to visit us at Alpha Home and provide updates on her life! She is a great example of what both she and
Alpha Home know to be true: Treatment works!
Treatment Works!
Fearing she would lose her children because of her addiction, Janie sat
in our waiting room until we could take her into our program. She
was ready to do anything to get into treatment. Because a residential
bed wasn‘t available, Janie began outpatient services that day and never
missed a beat. She not only committed to all required services, she
threw herself into 12-step meetings in the community. She did so well
as an outpatient client that she was never admitted to the residential
program. By the time she left outpatient treatment four months later,
she was chairing meetings and reaching out to other women new to
the program. Janie also participated in Alpha Home‘s outstanding GED
program and received her GED and is now taking college classes. The
prospect of losing her children is gone. Janie‘s transformation has been
phenomenal and a true inspiration to other Alpha Home clients, the
12-step community, her family, and especially the Alpha Home staff.
“Thank you all for giving me the tools I need to
live this wonderful life I have. I will continue to
live life to the fullest with an open and happy
heart, and give back to this wonderful place
we call Earth and the people we have in it.”

Pamela came to the Family First Program through our Baby First education class on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum
Disorder. Several risk factors were identified during her interview process with the staff. Pamela had been
out of work for several weeks and was experiencing severe financial distress. Her attendance at Baby First
was admittedly for the diaper bag filled with baby items she desperately needed. Pamela‘s beautiful and
healthy baby boy was born a few weeks later. When she was called for post delivery outcome, Pamela was
at home with her three-week-old baby. The day her electricity had been turned off and temperatures were
just under 100 degrees. This was a Friday afternoon.
Immediately, the Family First team made phone calls to community resources. Within minutes, a Family First
case manager called Pamela with a name, address and an appointment to meet with someone who could help
her restore her utilities.
Education and Support
Family First
Family First provides
solutions to help
reduce prenatal and
postnatal exposure to
alcohol, tobacco, and
other drugs through the
Pregnant and Post-
partum Intervention
(PPI) program.
PPI is open to
adolescent and adult
women who
are either pregnant
or have a child under
18 months of age
are involved with the
Department of Family
and Protective
Services with children
under the age of six
live in Bexar, Comal,
Guadalupe, or Medina
counties.
“Thank you, Alpha! I am ever so grateful for
the assistance you were able to provide… It is
important that it be known how you and
Alpha Home has helped make a difference in
another family's life… Thanks again for being
an Angel in our lives.”
Angela and her partner James were referred to Family First by
Mid-Coast Family Services because they were at risk of losing their
children, ages 1 and 5.
Together, they completed the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug
educational classes, resulting in the Department of Family Protective
Services lifting their safety plan. Angela and James were reunited with
their children, and they were excited and happy to be with them once
again.
Their motivation and willingness to change and the diligence and
support of the case manager were instrumental in reuniting this family.

Now Is The Time By Regina
I was battered and broken yeah that was me;
Till my path led to Alpha by God‘s grace and mercy;
But first I had to admit powerlessness;
Came to believe in a Power Greater than me;
One who could restore me to my sanity;
Made a decision – Surrendering me;
Something changed inside – peace and serenity;
Searching and fearless I made inventory;
Admitted to God, myself, and another
just what was wrong with me;
Entirely ready to have God remove all of my character
defects;
Humbly I asked and took the next steps;
Made a list of all whom I‘ve harmed;
Made direct amends and continued to admit all of my
wrongs;
The walls crumpled down and the light poured in;
Living free and learning from Him;
Working to become what God wants me to be;
Filled with miracles and promised on my road to Recovery;
He provides what I need if I just keep Him close;
Performing God‘s work well – His will be done not mine;
A spiritual awakening to carry the message;
Mission Statement The mission of Alpha Home is to provide spiritually based
substance abuse treatment and support to women and their families
