Club meeting

We are going to try a new venue thanks to Bill Howland’s
suggestion. They have a Grand Buffet, drink included,
priced at $11.99 regular, $9.99 for seniors & $5.99 kids 4
to 12 years of age. Their private meeting room is located
upstairs and should accommodate our group quite well.
They have an elevator and restrooms available. The whole
experience with the catering manager, Lisa, was quite
friendly. Please come for dinner and see how you like the
many choices on their buffet. Only low point we cannot
bring food in the store. Dessert will not be Margaret’s
cakes. But they do offer desserts on the buffet.
I would like to thank all the many suggestions that have
been recommended to me to help find places for our Club
to meet. Thanks also to Bobbi Wells and Carol Danielson
for going along to have lunch and check out several sights.
Thanks to Jim Jensen for the use of his home. They are
great Rebel friends. Our main goal is to find a big enough
venue for our large club to share information and enjoy
time for fellowship. Join us. Make friends. Get involved.
Thank you everyone.

THIS MONTH WE HIGHLIGHT OUR REBELS MEMBERS
Gary and Alyce Willey
by Jim Jensen
402-580-3763
Jim Jensen was having trouble getting classic car articles for the “Rebels Rides”, so he asked if I would write an article
on our RV (which now serves as my “Classic Car”).
This is our third venture into “RV-ing”. We started with an 18’ pull behind trailer. We got rid of that and bought a 36’
gas powered RV, by trading in my customized 1968 Chevrolet Pickup (which was the reason we joined the Rebels in the
first place). The 36’ RV had a front Ford V10 gas engine, but every time it kicked in to passing gear, it scared the dog!
We talked about getting a rear engine diesel, and made a trip to Texas, so we could see what was available. We found
just what we wanted, but it was priced too high, so we didn’t buy it right away. I got the salesman’s phone number and
Email and over the next two months we negotiated back and forth, finally arriving at a deal. Our plans were to go to my
class reunion in Hastings and then go to Texas to pick up the new RV.
In the meantime the wife hurt her back and was in a lot of pain.
So much so, that she told me to just go to Texas and pick it up
myself (THAT, right there, shows how much pain she was really
in)! So I drove the old RV to Hastings, attended my class reunion,
and left for Texas on a Sunday morning. With all the paperwork
completed, I drove home next day.
Here is the amazing part! I was all by myself and managed to
drive a 36’ motor home all the way to Texas, a 43’ motor home
back to Lincoln, and never once crossed the center line, never for-
got to use the turn signal, never got too close to the edge of the
road and never exceeded the speed limit … And, ALL BY MY-
SELF (apparently however, I have not been able to do that since).
Just so you know, the diesel easily goes 85 MPH, but please don’t
tell Alyce!
The Vehicle is a 2009 Monaco Camelot 43’ Class A Motor Coach,
with a 400HP Cummins Turbocharged Diesel, Allison 6 speed
Automatic Transmission, Tandem Axle, 4 Slide Outs, King Size
Sleep Number Bed, House Sized Refrigerator with Ice Maker, Full
Bath, Washer And Dryer, three Flat Screen TV’s and many other
amenities that, after 3 years, we are still getting used to. It only
had 8,700 miles when we picked it up, so this will be the last one
we ever have to buy. We love it and take it to Arizona each year
from January to April. The only bad part is that we miss the Re-
bels Christmas Party. Other than that, retirement and driving a
“big rig” is great.
Comment from Jim Jensen: This is a nice rig. We are having some
trouble finding an area for our monthly Rebels General meeting.
I’m thinking mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Just kidding
Gary
