Week 2 Application: SQ3R (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review)

Approaching texts with a defined strategy can help to reduce anxiety and to increase your success in

reading. There are many names for strategies that are recommended; however, many are quite similar. If

you master one, you can adapt it to your use and reap the benefits. In this assignment, you will practice

using the SQ3R strategy.

To prepare for this assignment:

View the media element "The SQ3R Strategy Illustrated."

Read pages 533–535 from the course text describing the SQ3R strategy.

Read Selection 3, “The Saudis: Inside the Desert Kingdom” on pages 33–34 of the course text

using the SQ3R technique.

The assignment:

Write a summary of the text “The Saudis: Inside the Desert Kingdom.” This will give you practice

with the “Review” part of the SQ3R model.

Determine the method of organization for each paragraph in the text. List the method of

organization below the summary.
