Educational practice

Math AdviceMath homework is given nightly. Please make

sure it gets done. Practicing math at home is one of the best ways to make sure that that the math concept is learned.

We take notes regularly in class. Students should be able to review their notes to help with homework.

The book is a great resource! Students can always go back and review concepts when studying for quizzes & tests, or when they need to review for homework.

Math SOL ExpectationsThe SOL test given in May will be 60 questions.

They will be distributed as follows:10 questions on Number and Number Sense9 questions on Computation and Estimation12 questions on Measurement & Geometry19 questions on Probability, Statistics, Patterns,

Functions, & Algebra10 Field Questions

Ending AdviceStudents will be successful in the 6th grade if

they TRY. They need to stay focused and work hard all year. This means keeping up with their work, both classwork and homework. Study for tests and quizzes. Ask questions when they don’t understand. And give us 100% all year.

Technology Enhanced QuestionsIn both Reading and Math this year students

must answer some questions that are interactive… not multiple choice.

We will be working with the students as the SOLs get closer for them to practice the types of questions as well as get used to how to answer questions in a new format.
