CHUYÊN ĐỀ:

NHỮNG CÂU HỎI VỀ VĂN HÓA GIAO TIẾP

TRONG ĐỀ THI ĐẠI HỌC

I. LÍ DO CHỌN CHUYÊN ĐỀ:

đưa ra ý kiến của cá nhân, hỏi ý kiến của người khác; đưa ra lời khen ngợi hay đáp lại lời khen ngợi;

PART 2: CONTENT

2.1. LITERATURE REVIEW

2.1.1. Conversation strategies

Conversation strategies are techniques that help the speaker and listener keep a conversation going to

its natural and desired conclusion. They are skills that supplement the linguistic and sociolinguistic

skills most texts focus on: grammar, vocabulary, and usage. To develop strategic competence, students

must learn the words, phrases, and conventions used as two speakers engage in the active give-and-take

of conversation. These are the strategies we use to get more information, make comparisons, correct

someone politely, agree and disagree, summarize, share information, and make decisions in a business

meeting. Students also practice polite forms, rejoinders, clarifications, follow-up questions, getting a

response, expressing probability, interrupting, and avoiding conversation killers. Each activity has three

parts: a teacher's introduction, a written introductory exercise to be done by students individually, and

pair/group practice that makes use of information gap and other interactive formats. Each fun, student-

centered activity begins with controlled language and moves to open, imaginative exchanges. The work

is enjoyable for students and teacher and easy to use in any intermediate level class.

2.1.2. English Expressions for daily communication, ESL conversation & dialogues.

To teach and practice spoken English, I offer commonly used English Expressions for daily

communication, ESL conversation & dialogues. From learning these expressions, students will be

KHÓA TỔNG ÔN KIẾN THỨC – Cô VŨ MAI PHƯƠNG

http://moon.vn - hotline: 04.32.99.98.98

able to use very important communication phrases and expressions which native speakers normally use

in English conversations or dialogues. Also, learning these expressions will help to make students sound

more natural and polite.

2.1.2.1. Asking for and giving advice

Asking for advice:

I've got a bad toothache. What do you suggest?

What do you advise me to do?

What should I do?

What ought I to do?

What's your advice?

If you were me what would you do?

Giving advice

If I were you, I would go to the dentist.

Why don't you go to the dentist?

You'd better brush your teeth regularly.

You ought to/should avoid eating sweets.

If you take my advice, you'll go to the dentist.

It might be a good idea to brush your teeth on a regular basis.

I advise you to brush your teeth on a regular basis.

Have you thought about seeing a dentist?

"In your position, I would…"

"You should perhaps…"

"You could always…"

Declining to give advice

I don't know what to advise, I'm afraid.

I wish I could suggest something, but I can't.

I wish I could help.

I'm afraid I can't really help you.

sarcastic.

2.1.2.7. Thanking People and Responding to Thanks

Most languages have an automatic response to thanks. The British do not automatically respond to

thanks, but Americans do. A response is not necessary in British English, but is becoming more frequent.

In the past, You’re welcome sounded very American. Nowadays it’s common in Britain too. Another

common response in Britain is No problem (at all). Remember that Please is not an acceptable response

to thanks in either Britain or the USA.

Thanking for directions

A: Thank you so much for your directions. You've been a tremendous help.

B: It was my pleasure.

A: Thank you for taking the time to explain it to me. I hope it wasn't too much of a

bother.

Thanking for compliments and wishes of success

A: You are such a good cook!

B: Thanks. I learned a lot from my mother.

A: Good luck with your exams!

apology.

2.2. CONVERSATION STRATEGIES IN ENGLISH CLASSES

Lesson plan for English conversations are available on the Internet for both situations and

functions that will most likely be encounter by speakers of English. Each lesson plan for English

conversation contains common expressions that native English speakers may use for given situations or

functions, in addition to responses to those expressions. Students can begin using these expressions

immediately to facilitate their communication skills.

A sample dialogue is provided that can be use as a model for similar conversations. The lessons

also contain discussion topics, role play situations, and other games and activities, for both paired and

group work, that can be utilized in the classroom for students to further practice their use of the language.

Learning English conversation skills works best in pairs or groups. One can improve their

writing, reading, and listening skills by studying alone, but to maximize study time to improve speaking

skills you need a partner.
