Let your mind wander and your imagination take flight,

Let your stories grow wings, then watch them come to life. What pictures do words paint in your imagination? What can you see? What can you hear? And how would you feel if you were one of the characters? The words of a story are just the beginning; using creative movement, voices and sounds, stories can be brought to life. Teachers beware: you might be in for a scare! Moira Morrison is an arts educator extraordinaire. She is a composer and performer who writes and delivers original music and theatre workshops across Scotland. Through her work she helps children realise their individual talents and passions by encouraging their creativity and confidence. Imagining Things – Kenneth Steven

Kenneth Steven’s poetry collection Imagining Things was the first book written in his cabin in his Mum’s garden in Aberfeldy. Kenneth talks about how the cabin came to be, and why the poems inspired by it were so centred around the natural world. The poems are of many different types: some rhyme, many don’t; some use nonsense words, some are riddles, and a few are even shape poems. The whole idea is to inspire us to write our own poems, to persuade us this is something we can all do. Kenneth will read from these different poems and talk about them; he’ll answer as many questions as possible about the cabin, his work, and what it’s like to be a writer. Wednesday 26 November Primary 3– Primary 4 10.00 – 11.00 Primary 5– Primary 7 11.30 – 12.30 Eastgate Theatre, £2/pupil

Words and Rhythm with Nomad Beat Pupils can join Alison Cameron from Nomad Beat for a one-hour workshop where they will have a chance to explore the rhythm of words using hand drums and body percussion. Using Kenneth Steven's poetry as inspiration for these rhythms, the pupils will then create rhythms based on their own words/poetry. Wednesday 26 November Primary 5 – Primary 7 10.00 – 11.00 Primary 3 – Primary 4 11.30 – 12.30 Eastgate Theatre, Anne Younger Studio

Vivian French says Everybody's a Writer! You might be surprised to know that Vivian French hated writing when she was at school. She'd do anything to get out of putting pen to paper. But then she discovered that when you have a really good story to tell, writing it down can be great fun. And with over 200 books to her name, she hasn't run out of good stories! Her newest book, The Snarling of Wolves, is the sixth in her award-winning Five Kingdoms series and she's looking forward to celebrating its publication with her readers. So come with your brightest and best story ideas – characters, plots, endings, adventures, settings – and Vivian will help you turn them into a read-a-licious story. Thursday 27 November Primary 4 –Primary 7 13.00 – 14.00 Eastgate Theatre, £2/pupil

Dave Sutton's Create a Character Workshop Dave Sutton is an Edinburgh-based illustrator, specialising in artwork for children's books, magazines and campaigns. It'll be fun, informative and eye-opening – plus you'll come away with characters you can wrap a story around. Bring story ideas if you have them, or just a willingness to get scribbling! “Laughs, heartbreak, war, regeneration, scented breezes, sparkling wit and the best dog puppet ever. Perfect for children and grown-ups. Terrific.” (The Guardian)

This multi-sensory theatrical adaptation of Jean Giono's environmental classic tells the inspiring story of a shepherd who plants a forest, acorn by acorn, transforming a barren wasteland. As much a touching tale as it is a hilarious puppet show, THE MAN WHO PLANTED TREES shows us the difference one man (and his dog!) can make to the world. Suitable for adults and children aged 7+.

Creative Scotland has announced that Peebles is the most creative place of its size in the country. To celebrate this, Peebles Creative Place 2014 has partnered with the town’s various arts groups to create a series of events, festivals and commissions throughout the year. The Creative Place programme aims to challenge traditional ideas about artists and art by making it happen in new and unusual places. Peebles is a town rich in galleries, studios and performance venues but this year they are spilling out onto the street to give you artistic encounters in the most unexpected places. These events are happening in public spaces, homes and workplaces all over town, aiming to surprise and inspire everyone who encounters them. For information on what is happening visit www.peeblescreativeplace2014.com or look out for the Peebles Creative Place 2014 logo and you might get caught up in the carnival!
