WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR US AS WE MOVE FORWARD?

We will need to be strategic, focused, persistent, and patient as we strive to support our students’ success and our communities’ well being.

How we act during this time will make a difference.

Instruction will occur in three formats.

• Online synchronous (187 sections)

• Online asynchronous (744)

• Hybrid (209)

NMSU is also teaching some courses in “flex” format. And we’re preparing some classrooms to move in this direction in future semesters.

Vast majority of changes to the schedule have been made. We are sending messages to students in the next few days to check their schedule and adjust if needed.

SO WHAT ARE WE DOING?INSTRUCTION IN FALL

• As I understand it, we will do our very best to finish as much face-to-face instruction as possible before Thanksgiving so to reduce risk of virus transmission after a holiday weekend.

• Some exceptions to this will be granted based on the particular needs of certain disciplines and industries.

WHAT’S THE ULTIMATE GOAL?

Facilities: Campuses and centers are fully open to students, employees, and community.

Crisis Management: DACC has developed a model, the institutional infrastructure, and sufficient resources (including technology) for ongoing management of crises.

Page 21: Re-opening the Doors to Education · 2020-06-26 · SO WHAT ARE WE DOING? INSTRUCTION IN FALL • As I understand it, we will do our very best to finish as much face-to-face instruction

WHAT’S THE ULTIMATE GOAL?

Instruction and Services: College can effectively provide instruction and services that innovatively meet the needs of our communities using a variety of modalities—face-to-face, hybrid, online, flex—relying on more regular and more sophisticated uses of technology.

NOT OUT OF THE WOODS

And though it doesn’t always feel like it, this is an opportunity.

Let’s do this in a way that meets the needs of our students today, but also, in the end, when we come out the other side of the COVID crisis, we have transformed ourselves into an even stronger college.

NOT OUT OF THE WOODS

We will need to be strategic, focused, persistent, and patient as we strive to support our students’ success and our communities’ well being.

How we act during this time will make a difference.

NOT OUT OF THE WOODSWe are facing other circumstances that promise to change what higher education looks like in the US, in NM, in the NMSU System, at DACC.

Budget is one of them.

National recognition that racism is at the core of many of our societal structures in ways that limit opportunities for African Americans and other populations in this country is another.

More on both of these in the coming days and weeks.
