Why support Nourish?

You may be surprised to learn that 20.9% of children in our area live in poverty (1). We work with over 115 referral agencies such as social services, family liaison workers, Citizens Advice Bureau, domestic violence support workers in our area and Nourish is dedicated to working with them to provide a three-day emergency supply of food for people in crisis. We also signpost people to other organisations who are able to provide additional support and help with the longer-term resolution of issues such as housing associations, specialist debt advisors, money support workers in social housing. For now, we are a small charity with a big job to do and we couldn’t deliver foodbags to people in crisis in our local community without help from companies like yours. Every day people in our community find themselves unable to provide food for themselves or their families for all sorts of reasons; from benefit changes, domestic abuse, bereavement, an illness/accident to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income that there is not the money to pay.

Ways you can support Nourish You can support Nourish in many ways and we are incredibly grateful for every generous donation of time or money. We know that what Nourish gives is so much more than a foodbag, it’s a lifeline, a hug, an act of kindness from a stranger when you feel like there is no way up. We want to make supporting us as easy as possible so please find some ideas below as to how your help can make a huge difference and how we can support you.

Ways we will support you

Corporate Giving Charity of the year

Making Nourish your Charity of the Year means you’ll not only be able to help us raise the vital funds that we need to support the most vulnerable people within our community, you’ll also create a team atmosphere amongst staff as they work together to achieve your goal.

There are many benefits to making Nourish your Charity of the Year:

It shows your stakeholders that you are committed to being active in the heart of a local community issue

It promotes positive outputs, doing good does you good It creates positive PR opportunities The support of dedicated fundraising trustees and support staff to help you reach your

goals A dedicated online fundraising toolkit to give you easy access to resources to help promote

your fundraising activity

“The Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge & District Law Society raised £1,224.10 for Nourish at their annual dinner at The Spa Hotel in November 2018. The money came from the brilliant heads or tails game and Nourish were thrilled by the amount raised.”

Money collection boxes

Having a Nourish collection pod in your business is a great way for you to show your support for a local charity. We can collect these as often as you like, at a time to suit you. We’ll provide you with a Certificate to show everyone how much you have raised.

“Volunteers from Nourish enjoyed collecting at The Assembly Halls in December 2018 during the fantastic Sleeping Beauty pantomime, raising a phenomenal £5,129 and spreading the word about how Nourish is supporting people in our community each and every day!”

Fundraising fun

Get your team fired up to fundraise! We love hearing of the wonderful ways people fundraise for us. If you are stuck for inspiration then please click on our top ten ideas on the website. “The fun loving and creative ID&C Team raised an incredible £1,126 by hosting a Christmas Carol concert in their local pub and having a Christmas Jumper event in December 2018.”

Give as you Earn Give as you earn or Payroll giving is a tax-free way for UK tax payers to make regular tax-free donations to Nourish straight from their salary before tax is deducted. It costs Nourish the equivalent of £3 to provide food for a meal for someone in need, so staff who sign up to donate £3 (the price of a large cup of take away coffee) each month can go a long way to help us help others (and HMRC helps too as the donation is given tax free)!

Sponsorship & In-aid-of Events

Nourish needs sponsors for essential Nourish equipment and for our fundraising

events and campaigns each year. Alternatively why not hold an “in-aid-of” event and

donate the monies raised to Nourish?

Sponsor Nourish equipment, campaigns or events

Nourish needs over £20,000 a year to run our packing and storage facility, £11,000 to run

our van for a year and £15,000 to pay for the fresh food vouchers that we offer individuals

and families. We also run a number of fundraising campaigns including #givingtuesday (the

globally recognised day of giving in December), the 12 days of Christmas campaign and

Tunbridge Wells Takeover, inviting businesses, retail outlets and events to let us “take over”

in September and raise funds for Nourish.

Your sponsorship or support can help cover the costs of the event, go towards prizes and

can generate publicity and PR opportunities for you.

“The team at Infinity Group are supporting Nourish Community Foodbank by providing us with IT and technical advice and support.”

In-aid-of events

Why not run your own event, co-brand it with Nourish and donate the monies raised to those

in need, all the while raising your profile and ensuring everyone feels great about supporting

a local charity? Events could include Quiz nights, anti-coffee morning (pay and forfeit one

coffee for charity), dress up days, wine tastings, film nights, BBQs, sponsored walks.

Donate money

Big or small, every gift you give helps transform the lives of people living in crisis.

Last year Nourish provided enough food for 57,438 meals.

Did you know that just £3, the price of one takeaway coffee could provide a meal to someone

in crisis? The average regular gift to each charity is a tenner a month(2).

Nourish is a bit special because we do more with your tenner, we provide fresh food

vouchers for people to buy fresh produce alongside the foodbag essentials, ensuring they

get a healthy, balanced diet. (2) Source: Charities Aid Foundation

Regular Giving

Giving regularly guarantees we have a regular income so we can plan better how to meet the needs of our clients. A monthly donation of:

£3 would fund a meal

£10 means fresh food vouchers for a client

£27 covers the cost of a three-day emergency food bag

Food Donations Nourish Community Foodbank relies on the goodwill and support of local businesses. Almost all the food distributed by us is donated by the public – that’s why your food donations are absolutely vital to our ability to give everyone referred to us a balanced and nutritious three day supply of food.

“Childrensalon have tirelessly supported Nourish Community Foodbank over a number of years. In June 2019 we put a shout out to the community to help us as we were dangerously low on stocks for the busy Summer period. Childrensalon took our Operations Manager shopping to a local supermarket and purchased nearly a week’s worth of food!”

Volunteering We cannot do what we do without our incredible band of volunteers, they are literally the life blood of Nourish. We are always looking for more volunteers, your time will make a real difference to the life of people in our community in crisis.

Corporate charitable cause days In addition, many of our corporate partners give their staff charitable hours or days per year to spend supporting a voluntary organisation such as Nourish. Short-term volunteering opportunities include:

Helping out at our unit at Big Yellow, Tunbridge Wells. Nourish delivers on average between 80-100 foodbags each week from our base at the Big Yellow Self Storage on the industrial estate. We rely on a team of volunteers to sort out donations, pack foodbags and deliver to those in need, but there are times when we need a bit of extra help in processing large donations, sorting out our 1,000+ square feet of storage and just making sure we rotate stock quickly enough so nothing goes to waste.

Company Challenges and Team building activities We often arrange challenge days for teams within a business to come and help us at the unit or one of our fundraising events. We can work with a corporate partner to meet their training goals and ensure the group have a memorable team-building experience. All of this being delivered safe in the knowledge that each and every member of the team is making a very real and measurable difference to the lives of people in their own community! Employee Charitable hours

We can arrange for your staff to be involved in regular weekly shifts or one off employee charity days where employees can spend time finding out first-hand how Nourish works, become part of a team of incredible volunteers and get enormous satisfaction in seeing the immediate impact they can make! Event volunteering There are several opportunities each year to get your staff involved at our events including:

Bag packing at local supermarkets Stalls at school fairs, shopping centres, events

Fundraising events such as dragon boat rowing, family events
