About the product

Ranger antennas are ferrite-based antennas that connect to a pedestal or controller, to act as auxiliary antennas for the system.

Table 1 lists the various Ranger antenna kits and the features that distinguish the kits from one another. Rangers work with almost all AM detection systems.

Table 2 lists the best Ranger kit to use for each controller or pedestal, and the reason for using that kit.

Table 2. Controller and Ranger Kit compatibility

Controller or pedestal Ranger kit Reason for using this Ranger kit

Ultra•Post Pedestal, split ZKRANGER-2 The Ultra•Post has only one receiver port, so split systems with Rangers on both sides of pedestal require the Y-cable in the ZKRANGER-2 kit.

Ultra•Post Pedestal, non-split ZKRANGER-1 The cable in the ZKRANGER-1 kit has a four-pin connector for the Ultra•Post.

Ultra•Post Plus ZKRANGER-1

The cable in the ZKRANGER-1 kit has a connector for the Ultra•Post Plus. The Ultra•Post Plus requires a Ranger with an EMI filter. It has two receiver ports so it does not need the Y-cable.

ADS-216 ZKRANGER-1

The ADS-216 requires a Ranger with an EMI filter. The ADS-216 controller comes with a terminal block connector. Use the terminal block connector instead of the connector on the cable in the ZKRANGER-1 kit.

APS-100

ZKRANGER-3 In the APS models, connect the cable connector in the ZKRANGER-3 kit to the six-pin connector on the interconnect cable.

APS-1000

APS-1001

APS-1002

AMS-9030 AMS-9033 ZKRANGER-3

Does not require an EMI filter. The controllers come with a terminal block connector to use, instead of using the connector on the cable in the ZKRANGER-3 kit. AMS-9040

AMS-1080 ZKRANGER-DG The cable in the ZKRANGER-DG kit has a 1080, 9050, 9060, Ultra 1.8, and Ultra 1.5 Meter Pedestal connector.

AMS-9050 ZKRANGER-DG, ZKRANGER-3

The cable in the ZKRANGER-DG kit has the 1080, 9050, 9060, and Ultra 1.8 Meter ABS Pedestal connector. For a lighter color Ranger use the ZKRANGER-3 Ranger kit, which has a separate 1080, 9050, 9060, and Ultra 1.8 Meter Pedestal connector.

AMS-9060 ZKRANGER-DG, ZKRANGER-3

The cable in the ZKRANGER-DG kit has the 1080, 9050, 9060, and Ultra 1.8 Meter ABS Pedestal connector. For a lighter color Ranger use the ZKRANGER-3 Ranger kit, which has a separate 1080, 9050, 9060, and Ultra 1.8 Meter Pedestal connector.

Ultra•Post 6 Pedestal

ZKRANGER-DG, ZKRANGER-3

The pedestals have two five-pin receiver ports. The cable in the ZKRANGER-DG kit has a mating 1080, 9050, 9060, and Ultra 1.8 connector. For a lighter color Ranger use the ZKRANGER-3 Ranger kit, which has a separate 1080, 9050, 9060, and Ultra 1.8 Meter Pedestal connector.

Connecting the cables to the pedestals

Set the configuration to Primary w/ Ferrites for the following pedestals:

Ultra•Post

Ultra•Post II

Ultra•Post III

Ultra•Post IV

CAUTION: If you connect a Ranger antenna to an Ultra•Post, Ultra•Post II, Ultra•Post III, or Ultra•Post IV pedestal, you must use the configurator to change the configuration of the system before you connect the receiver. Not doing so, can cause damage to the receiver. Also, you must remove jumpers J4 and J6 from the transmitter board to disable the transmitter on the interconnect connector.

WARNING: Risk of electric shock. High-voltage AC is present on the capacitor board whenever the pedestal power is on. Ensure that the system is not powered on before you connect the auxiliary receivers.

CAUTION: Auxiliary receiver antennas are receive-only. A transmitter current can cause damage to them. Do not connect the auxiliary receivers to the secondary connector P4.

To connect the cables to the pedestals in the system, complete the following steps:

1. Unplug the power cable to the controller or pedestal.

2. Select one of the following steps:

For Ultra•Post, Ultra•Post II, Ultra•Post III, or Ultra•Post IV pedestals, route the cable through the pedestal, as shown in Figure 10.
