  • RALEIGH PARK MAY 2020 REPORT

    GARDEN & MAINTENANCE CONTRACT

Link park with the flowering pear trees showing their Autumn foliage.

  • May 2020 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY May has been mixture of warmth and cool winds with slightly above average rainfall. The weather has produced good conditions for turf and we are seeing good colour and even density of grass. The roses in the Basin are starting to losing their leaves and next month they will be pruned in readiness for the new spring growth and flowering. Due to the rain and mild weather hedges have produced new growth which needs trimming frequently. Fertilizer has been applied to the lawns that are irrigated to maintain health and vigour over the Winter period. The pansies are starting to flower in the Basin in front of the roses and should produce a good display in the next few months. The leaves of the pear trees in Link have just about finished. These leaves that have been collected will be made into compost and used as a dressing on the garden beds later in the year. Mowing of turf is occurring less frequently as growth is slowing Treatment of broadleaf weeds is taken place. While draining water from the lower water feature at the Water race I found the pump which had its connecting pipe attached. It was disconnected and in the very bottom of the sump. This represents a saving of hundreds of dollars as a new pump would have to be purchased. The last of the summer flowering annuals have been removed. Spring flowering bulbs can be seen emerging from the ground. Ranunclus and Dutch Iris will come into bloom in the Spring. Next month we will be working to collect many of the leaves that fall from the flowering pear trees on Brompton Road. This will take a lot of time. Composting will be of the leaves collected will take place over the next few months.

  • Pruning of Crepe Myrtle will take place within Raleigh Park, in particular Serpentine Avenue , York Place and at the Tennis courts of the Community Centre. Rose pruning will be carried out at the end of this month once the weather cools off some more.
