RAIN Networks and Cinema on Demand

Page 2: Rain networks and cinema on demand

Founded in 2002. Rain Network connects with other independent cinema theatres around the world. Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, New York and London, have all got some digital cinemas that allow them to receive films online but is most significant in Brazil. By the end of 2004, it was distributing independent films and pre-show advertisements to 25 theatres which rose to 80 in 2005 and the company embarked on a joint venture with New York-based Emerging Pictures to expand to the United States and England. After three years, Rain Network currently serves 155 theatres.

About Rain Network

Page 3: Rain networks and cinema on demand

Lovefilm is the leading UK and Europe based provider of home video rental through streaming movies online in the UK, Germany and Scandinavia

This is done by the user choosing what they want to rent and they post what they wanted to them 1st class

There are also other companies do this e.g Netflix, Film4, Sky Movies and more

The other companies do it differently, they allow streaming online to your device for immediate use which costs a fixed payment every month like Netflix who are Lovefilm’s major competitor

Jamie:

“it’s good as it is more accessible to users meaning film companies can be making more profits as a larger audience can view them”

Richard:

“This is a good idea as they can use this to maximise profits by renting any movie that the public wants to watch so they could carry out weekly surveys of what movie they most want to watch so they can supply so they won’t need to rent low demand movies”

Jordan:

“It will have it’s drawbacks but it will also has its advantages as if they can get it directly rented then in the future you could be able to directly rent it from home but when it comes to that stage it could turn into an oligopoly and the local cinema and arts can go bust e.g. Dorchester Plaza”
