Railway Minister Bansal quits, Law Minister Ashwani Kumar may follow New Delhi, Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal Fri- day met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and submitted his resignation while Law Minister Ashwani Kumar, facing heat for interfering in a CBI probe in coal blocks allo- cation, also met the prime minister indicating he may too quit. Bansal's resignation came hours after Con- gress chief Sonia Gandhi met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at his official residence in the evening as the Congress decided the railway minis- ter, whose relative was ar- rested for corruption, must go. He handed over his resignation to the prime minister at his official resi- dence, said informed sources. Bansal was under a cloud after his nephew was arrested by the Cen- tral Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for accepting a bribe of Rs.90 lakh for getting a plum Railway Board post to a senior official. Labour Minister Mallikarjuna Kharge is tipped to be the next rail- way minister. The name of Surface Transport Minister C.P. Joshi, who held the railway portfolio briefly be- fore Bansal, was also be- ing considered, said the sources. The indication that Bansal's fate was sealed came Friday afternoon when Congress spokes- person Bhakta Charan Das told reporters: "We will not tolerate if anybody is found mired in corrup- tion." According to informed sources, the Congress wanted to remove both Bansal and Ashwani Kumar in a minor cabinet reshuffle being planned over the next few days. But Bansal was asked to resign Friday itself after reports that he had sought divine help (feeding a goat) to save himself, irked the Congress leadership, said the sources. Bansal remained in of- fice for around six months. Ashwani Kumar may be moved to a less signifi- cant ministry, said the sources. The Congress, which successfully snatched Karnataka from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the anti-corrup- tion plank, did not want to send out a wrong signal by showing it was soft on cor- ruption, the sources added. Colombia rolls out flight simulator for drones Apiay (Colombia), Colombian authorities presented the country's first domestically pro- duced flight simulator for training operators of un- manned drones. The simulator is the debut project to emerge from Colombia's Corpora- tion for High Technology in Defense and involved col- laboration between mili- tary and civilian engineers, Defense Minister Juan Carlos Pinzon said in an event at Apiay airbase in the central province of Meta. Aspiring drone pilots carry out a simulated mis- sion with a Boeing-made Scan Eagle, tracking mov- ing vehicles or people or locating rebel camps. Colombia uses "re- motely piloted aircraft" to monitor vital infrastructure and to "protect Colombian citizens with some better elements of observation and intelligence", Pinzon said. The Scan Eagle can remain in the air for eight hours at a stretch and flies at a maximum altitude of 19,000 feet. In Colombia, however, it is being de- ployed at 11,000 feet, ac- cording to Maj. Diego Hernandez, head of the Corporation's simulator di- vision. 75,000 soldiers deployed for Pakistan polls Islamabad, As many as 75,000 soldiers stood guard across Pakistan as polling began Saturday. WESTERN TIMES AHMEDABAD SUNDAY, MAY 12, 2013 Crackdown against chit fund group in Tripura Agartala, The Tripura govern- ment has launched a crackdown against Rose Valley, one of the biggest chit fund companies in eastern India. Two execu- tives of the group have been arrested and docu- ments have been seized, an official said here Satur- day. "Raids in Rose Valley's main office in Tripura be- gan late Friday and are continuing. Police arrested the company's regional di- rector Ashok Saha and branch manager of the Agartala office Anupam Bhattacharjee late Friday night," sub-divisional mag- istrate (Sadar) Manik Lal Das told IANS. Das, who led the team in the crackdown, said: "When the raids began, thousands of agents gath- ered at the main office of Rose Valley here and sur- rounded the local police station fearing loss of busi- ness." A huge contingent of security forces have been deployed in the capital city to prevent any untoward incident following the ar- rest of Rose Valley officials and sealing of its offices here. India's market regula- tor, Securities and Ex- change Board of India (SEBI), had earlier banned the Kolkata-based Rose Valley and several other non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) from accepting deposits from the public. Established in 1999 as a public limited company, the Rose Valley group is registered under the Com- panies Act, 1956. It has been operating in eastern and northeastern states of India and has business in- terests in hospitals, films, hotels, amusement parks, real estate and construc- tion, industrial ventures besides collection of de- posits. Raids by police and district administration offi- cials are being conducted at the offices of NBFCs across Tripura for the past two weeks. Several docu- ments and properties have been seized. With the arrest of two executives of the Rose Valley group, nine impor- tant decision-making high officials -- including a woman -- of five chit fund organisations have been arrested in western Tripura since April 27."The raids and seizures, which were launched recently across Tripura, would continue till the illegal activities of the NBFCs are curbed," an official of Tripura's small savings and institutional finance told reporters. Mumbai, Tamil actor Dhanush, who is set to make his Bollywood debut with Anand L Rai's "Raanjhanaa", minces no words in praising the Os- car-winning music com- poser of the film, A.R. Rahman, terming him a true Raanjhanaa. Rahman has also com- posed music for Dhanush's Tamil film "Mariyan" releasing May 31. "According to me, Rahman sir is Raanjhanaa. He has given so much to the film. When you will watch the songs with the film you will under- stand what I am talking about," the 29-year-old said here during a press conference for the film Fri- Rahman a true Raanjhanaa day. Hailing the music maestro Rahman for his ability to churning out equally good music for Tamil and Hindi cinema, Dhanush says what Rahman does is very tough. "What I wonder about him how he strikes a balance, like when you listen to a Tamil song it sounds like a Tamil song and when you listen to a Hindi song it sounds so much like Bollywood. I don't know how he achieves that its really tough. One should know both the cultures by heart to bring out this kind of perfection," he said. Mean- while, Sonam Kapoor, who is paired opposite Dhanush in the film, says the four times National Award winning music- composer has given her an "identity" with his mu- sic, making her feel "privi- leged" and "blessed". Rahman also composed the music of Sonam's sec- ond film, "Delhi 6", in 2009. "He gave me an iden- tity with his music and song and his melody. He adds life to everything he does because he is a true genius. He is a true mas- ter at his craft. I am just privileged and blessed that I have A.R Rahman giving music for my film," said the actress who is playing the character of a Muslim girl Zoya in the film. The love story is slated for release June 21 and has seven compositions by Rahman. {tu.9825599980 ƒe-S-9, {]ýt÷ yu…txo{uLx, þthŒt ËtuËtÞxe …tËu, ¼e{™tÚt {ntŒuð {krŒh …tA¤, …t÷ze, y{ŒtðtŒ-15.
