Vikram Phadnis opens RFW2013 with traditional outfits
Jaipur, The second edition of Rajasthan Fashion
Week (RFW) 2013 began at the Fairmont hereFriday with Mumbai-based designer VikramPhadnis showcasing Rajasthan's traditional out-fits and accessories for both men and women.
In line with the theme "Recreation of Kali," thecollection was designed keeping in mind a mod-ern woman who is confident, bold andindependent.The collection for women was a per-fect blend of modern and traditional silhouettes.It comprised vibrant ghaghra cholis (ankle lengthskirts and blouses with duppattas), floor lengthdesigner anarkalis, saris and kurtas.
Beautifully embellished with embroidery likeblock prints, tie and dye prints, bagaru prints,sanganer prints and zari work, the outfits lookedsophisticated and elegant.
Gota and mirror work was quite visible. Bling,golden embroidery and silver work was done ex-tensively. The shades of golden, reds, mustards,blues and greens improved the grace.
Menswear included embroidered sherwanis,waist coats and loose pants with kurtas, jodhpuriand Nehru collar jackets in shades like ivory, black,blues and off whites. The colour palette was de-cided keeping in mind the summer-spring wed-ding season."I celebrate rural India through mycollection. The main aim is to promote the states'culture and fashion," said Phadnis who used fab-rics like cotton, linen, silk, chiffons and crepe.Thecollection was definitely not for those who prefersoft shades and light-weight embroidery.Insteadof the showstopper, the designer walked the rampalong with a bunch of kids who wore ethnic out-fits.

Bansal's resignationcame hours after Con-gress chief Sonia Gandhimet Prime MinisterManmohan Singh at hisofficial residence in theevening as the Congressdecided the railway minis-ter, whose relative was ar-rested for corruption, mustgo.
He handed over his
resignation to the primeminister at his official resi-dence, said informedsources.
Bansal was under acloud after his nephewwas arrested by the Cen-tral Bureau of Investigation(CBI) for accepting a bribeof Rs.90 lakh for getting aplum Railway Board postto a senior official.
Labour MinisterMallikarjuna Kharge istipped to be the next rail-way minister. The name ofSurface Transport MinisterC.P. Joshi, who held therailway portfolio briefly be-fore Bansal, was also be-ing considered, said thesources.

Crackdown against chitfund group in Tripura
Agartala, The Tripura govern-
ment has launched acrackdown against RoseValley, one of the biggestchit fund companies ineastern India. Two execu-tives of the group havebeen arrested and docu-ments have been seized,an official said here Satur-day.
"Raids in Rose Valley'smain office in Tripura be-gan late Friday and arecontinuing. Police arrestedthe company's regional di-rector Ashok Saha andbranch manager of theAgartala office AnupamBhattacharjee late Fridaynight," sub-divisional mag-istrate (Sadar) Manik LalDas told IANS.
Das, who led the teamin the crackdown, said:"When the raids began,thousands of agents gath-ered at the main office ofRose Valley here and sur-
rounded the local policestation fearing loss of busi-ness."

Raids by police anddistrict administration offi-cials are being conductedat the offices of NBFCsacross Tripura for the pasttwo weeks. Several docu-ments and properties havebeen seized.
With the arrest of twoexecutives of the RoseValley group, nine impor-tant decision-making highofficials -- including awoman -- of five chit fundorganisations have beenarrested in western Tripurasince April 27."The raidsand seizures, which werelaunched recently acrossTripura, would continue tillthe illegal activities of theNBFCs are curbed," anofficial of Tripura's smallsavings and institutionalfinance told reporters.
