In addition, the following grammatical concepts will be introduced: stress pronouns, object pronouns, demonstrative adjectives, formation of more complex adjectives and adverbs. The students will: Expand reading proficiency and listening skills, writing and speaking skills in Three Modes of Communication: Interpersonal, Interpretive, Presentational Obtain advanced and increased knowledge of the French speaking community ACTFL Performance Descriptor for Language Learners By the end of this course students should be at the Novice Low to Novice Mid level of language performance. 3. Speaking: To perform functions using appropriate target language vocabulary with accurate pronunciation. 4. Writing: To express ideas on a number of topics utilizing the command of appropriate vocabulary and syntactical structure. Cultural Competency Goals: Students will appreciate and accept:

Students work in groups to create a presentation in a multimedia format. How do I tell others about myself? How do I describe friends? How do I give people’s ages? How do I describe a bedroom? How do I talk about and describe everyday objects? SKILLS Students will be able to converse at a low-novice to mid-novice level with another French speaker in a way that conforms to social expectations and is clearly understandable, using basic phrases and sentences that have been highly practiced and/or memorized. They will be able to ask questions and offer information on topics that are very familiar.

Assessments:

Required Assessments: Common Assessment: “My family tree” Students will complete a “family tree” project with a presentation component. Students may choose among formats of a poster, PowerPoint, Prezi, etc. All formats must be accompanied by a spoken description of the material being presented. This description may be partially read from note cards but should be well-practiced so that the cards are used only as prompts. This assessment checks for mastery of the basic phrases and sentences taught in Unit 4. Test: Unit 4 Exam (summative) which includes a listening component with multiple choice answers, fill-in-the blank and short answer for vocabulary knowledge assessment

The DVD presents all new vocabulary and grammar topics through the presentation of a skit of real-life simulation using the targeted material.

• DuoLingo.com: This website offers students a free game-like experience while learning vocabulary and sentence structure. Students must “pass” one level before moving onto the next by translating phrases and sentences. They also hear how words are pronounced while progressing through the skill levels.

• www.languageguide.org/french/vocabulary/: This site lists French vocabulary by topic and gives viewers a picture to accompany each word. Each word is pronounced by a native French speaker. The option is also available to use a microphone and test one’s pronunciation.
