VEGAMIPLevel detection in bulk solids and liquids

Measuring principleThe measuring system consists of a microwave emitter and a respective receiver. The emitting signal isfocussed by an antenna system and emitted against the receiver. A medium in the path of rays damps thissignal. This signal damping is detected by the receiver and converted into a switching signal. The adaptationto the local conditions and the medium is easily possible by adjusting the sensitivity. Because microwaves canpenetrate non-conductive products, a measurement through plastic vessels is possible. With metal vessels,mounting is carried out directly on the vessel or through suitable window materials such as for example plastic,glass or ceramic.

Applications

Level in bulk solidsThe main application area of the microwave barrier is the leveldetection of bulk solids. The non-contact measuring principle isparticularly suitable for harsh application conditions in mineral oremining, coal or ore dressing. Due to the rugged sensor design and theuse of suitable window materials, the use with very abrasive productsor high temperature is possible. Different sensor and antenna versionsenable a simple adaptation to various applications.

Level in liquidsThe microwave barrier is particularly suitable for measurement ofliquids in plastic or glass vessels because no opening is required formounting. The measurement can be carried out directly through thevessel wall. In metallic vessels, the sensor is mounted on a threadedsocket.

Object monitoringSimilar to a light barrier, the microwave barrier can be also used forobjectmonitoring.Sincemicrowavesarenotinfluencedbyambientcondition, this measuring system is ideal for harsh operating conditionsand offers high reliability even in case of rain, snow or strong dustgeneration. Typical applications are loading of trucks in the quarry orcollision protection of crane systems. Due to the high dynamic range ofthe receiver, an effective radius of 100 m can be reached.
