RACHEL FOONG YING YIN

I’m 20 years old, a 3rd years design student. I borned at the healthy and happy family, my parents with 2 younger brother and sister. Live in a small island which full of heritage charm’s - Penang, Malaysai. I’m passionate on the Advertising and Graphic design. I’m going to graduate with a diploma certificate at the end of the year 2012. My education and training going to end soon, but once I graduate and I’m excited to learn more skills as I move along in my life.

Seoul, South KOreaWhen winter arrived, plants and trees started wilted and cover the road of Seoul city. I took these 2 pictures at the very cold weather, the temperatures about 5-7 degree celcius. the simple elemets and the gradient of evening sky, and 3rd rules are pretty perfect for me. 18-135mm kit lens of Canon 600D.

Storyboard photographyThis is a Photography class’s assignments. I decide a story photography with the title of ‘The Happiness’. A girl way to find happinese and at last she gave up. The balloons on her hand is represent the hapinness of her, how she wants more, but lost even more. Thanks the model, Cloey Teng for help me to complete this story. All the photos took by Canon 600D with 18-135 lense. Location is the Batu Ferringhi beach, Straits Quay and Taman Jajar, Penang.

Penang, MalaysiaI attended a photography competition that organized by Young Malaysians Movement (YMM) at the year 2011. I got the consolation prize at this competition with this photo. The competition’s title is ‘The forgetten corner’ at Penang. So I make used of monochrome effect of my Canon 600D to show the forgetten color. So I decided the elements of Penang heritage’s architectures. A old house windows and the old textures of the walls with simple 3rd rules composition, makes a forgetten and untold story.

“ The secret of success is to know something nobody else knows.” - Aristotle Onassis. I’m interested in Cooperate Identity deisgn becasue I can provide peoples a new brand and increase reputation.

COOPERATE IDENTITY 1Hotel Cooperate Identity Design I selected Lone Pine hotel as my client. This hotel located at Batu Ferringhi , Penang. It’s the only luxury boutique hotel. Renewed and rejuvenated after a lovingly undertaken restoration, Penang’s fa-vourite beachside boutique resort reopens its foors refreshed in design and facilities, but still infused with the same colonial spirit and idyllic charm that has made it one of Penang’s legendary hotels. Lone Pine are surrounded by a very tranquiller, calm and relax enviroment. Like a place to medidation, to reliese stress. It reopen door with the refresh and modern deisgn and facilities, but still remains the same colonial spirit.

IDEA AND CONCEPT OF LOGO

The logo is the primary element of this hotel identity. It uniquely and distinctively sets it aprat from other hotel. Different places, different role plays of different color and mood. I same out an idea, by using the leaves to create a weightless and relax feeling. And I also redesign the logo, simplify it to more simple and memorable. I selected ‘Existence Light’ the type face of the font. I found out the thin and light stroke giving a weightless and relax feeling. It;s perfectly fulfill with Lone Pine Hotel’s identity. It’s readability and legibility too. Our target audience are retired peoples and couples. Secondary target audience is locan and international tourist.

Logo try out / Ambient Montage

I did some montage on the environment and facilities that can be found at Lone Pine Hotel. So that, my client can have a foreseen of the logo that applied. I’ve try out with a cup, menu, pillows and glass door. I make used of the neumonics icons of the logo to design the furnitures too.

The logo must always apply at the right-hand side, bot-tom corner. The stationery included letterhead, envelope, compli-ment slip and name card of the Lone Pine Beach Hotel.

Penanag UNESCO Heritage Site Group Assignment: Rachel Foong, Sara ooi & Lim JIa Qi.

Penang, known as “Pearl of the Orient” to many people, is one of the famous islands in South-East Asia. It is renowned for its culture, food and heritage Visit Penang Year 2010-2012 marks the beginning of a month-long celebration held in conjunction with George Town’s UNESCO CELEBRATION MONTH in July 2009, which celebrates the first anniversary of George town being ignited as the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. • Oiur objectives is to introduce a historical basis of Penang and the interpretation of its ‘outstanding Universal Value’ based on its built and living heritage, raising the reputations of Penang World Heritage site, promoting Georgetown Heritage site to the world.

We defined our primary target audience is international tourist and local tourist. They prefer badget accommocation, interested to Penang’s history, cultures and agricultural. And we also defined our competitors. Malacca, Gunung Mulu National Park, Sarawak and Kinabalu Park, Sabah are listed ad attraction of UNESCO World Heritage Site in Malaysia. Secondary competitor will be Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia.

Our Single Minded Position(SMP) is MIxture Makes Unique. Mixture. Mixture of influences (Multiracial) that makes this place extraordinary and unique; mixture from different influences of Malay, Chinese, India and British;create a multiracial society and live coexisted ;variation of cultural, food and festivals; feel and taste the individual’s true influences of Penang, What Penang really are? Brings the benefit to target audiences trying all different influences from different race of culture festivals, foods and buildings.Sentimental and enthusiasm is the tone and manner that selected in this campaign. Our campaign will hold for 3 days. The event will located at Esplanade, Penang.

Summary

Fascinating Penang

The logo design is based on the archictectures characteristic of Penang. Every archictectures remains the cultures and characteristic of peoples. For instance, Mosques are remained by Malay peoples. Yellow - represented British ColonialBrown - represented the famous Clan Jetties in PenangPurple - represented the Indian templeOrange clock tower - represented the famous Clock tower.Green - represented the Malay mouques.Red - represented Chinese temple.Blue - represented Church that located in Penang.Pink - the Double-storeys Old houses that only Penang have. The similarity of the every elements in the logo is there all are the preserves heritage buildings that still remained in Penang.

These elements is multiply each others is based on the S.M.P ‘Mixtures makes Unique’. The tagline ‘Fascinating Penang’ is based on the word Unique. What makes Penang so unique and outstanding from other island of all the world? Because, Penang do offers what they have. Cultures, buildings, festivals, foods, costumes and peoples makes so much of uniquess and let Penang stands out from others.

Advertising Campaign 2Less Sugar Campaign. Group Assignment: Rachel Foong, Sara ooi & Lim JIa Qi.

As we know, sugars in appropriate amounts are used by the body as a source of fuel and is required to maintain a healthy metabolism. Sugars in large quantities, whether intrinsic or extrinsic, are not useful to the body.

Our main objective is to bring awareness to target audience about reducing consumption of sugar in their daily drinking and eating. We also wants to educate target audience about knowledge of health Lastly, we tend to create a healthier lifestyle from young to adult.

So, we targeted children 6 – 12 years old, because, they still young, they must have a good educated knowledge about their healthy and create a healthy lifestyle in future. Majority of children do not like to eats vegetables and only partiality to candies and sweets. They don’t have the correct eating habits. Our SMP is ‘ An opportunity to choose a healthier future’. Based on this SMP, we also came out a campaign slogan ‘ Sweets are fun, Sweets are yum!But too much sugar is bad for your tum! ’

Through the summary, we want to create a serious yet fun, appeal to children’s campaign. The location will be at Straits Quay, Penang. It is the 3 days campaign, given free goodie bags that included badges, bookmarks and etc.

The 3 pastel colors print ads and also add in the game for children, we believe this will attratced our target audience. We also got iPad apps, website, bunting and school’s buletine board.
