Without Her Faithless Lover The suicide of Miss Lillie Melton- a young school teacher at Norton ville last week was one of the most melancholy tragedies ever occurring- in Hopkins County Miss Melton according to a letter she left had been deprived of her virtue by Otto Eison an employe of the ortonville Mercantile Co who married Miss Berna Barnett of Mortons Gap Dec 30 One hour later Miss Mel ton drank carbolic acid and took her own life declaring in a pathetic let ter to her faithless love that she could not live without him The following is one of the pathetic paragraphs in the letter of the brokenhearted Berna is a dear sweet girl and she will make you happy She ii better than poor me but she cannot love you any more than I do and she is not any purer and more vir- tuous than I was Before you sullied my honor I wonder Otto that you could contemplate marriage with any girl after the things that have passed between us after you have told me over and over again that you never meant to marry that you did not think you could possibly ever get ready to marry Sometimes I wonder if you ever told me exactly what you felt and meant at any- time God knows Otto it is a terri- ble thing to win a womans heart to deceive her from first to last God forgive you as freely as I do for the things youhave made me suffer Miss Melton was 22 years old a daughter of Jas W Melton and was widely
