Seven Poor Travellers’ Procession Led from outside The Victoria and Bull Hotel by The Lamplighter, the procession will move along the high street and stop outside the Six Poor Travellers’ House, where Charles Dickens will make a short speech.

Parades and carols12noon

Main ParadeLed by the Mayor of Medway, the parade of costume characters and performers will start in the high street by Almon Place. It will move along the high street, turn left into the Esplanade, continuing up Castle Hill before fi nishing on the Boley Hill stage. To join in the parade please meet at the junction of Almon Place and the High Street and arrive 15 minutes before the start. Our stewards will be there to greet you.

Carols for ChristmasWe welcome back Rochester Choral Society Choir as they lead the magical concert. Join BAE Systems Brass Band and all the festival performers in a selection of popular Christmas carols outside Rochester’s magnifi cent cathedral on Boley Hill, under a guaranteed snow fall.

The Ghost of Christmas Past Floating through the crowds, this ethereal Dickensian ghost is waiting to whisk her victims back through time to right their wrongs.

Salvation Army Band We are very pleased to welcome the Salvation Army Band to our festival.

Rochester Cathedral Bell Ringers St Mary’s MeadowCome and have a go at bell ringing. The bells of Rochester Cathedral are nearly 100 years old. To maintain the current bells and add three more all donations are welcome.

Walking tours of historic RochesterLed by guides from the City of Rochester Society, this tour starts from the Visitor Information Centre. 10.45am for a 45min walk and 2.15pm for a 90min walk.Tour are free - although donations are always welcome.

Eastgate HouseStory-telling with our Victorian Father Christmas. 11am – 4pmGather round, get comfy and listen as our Victorian Father Christmas reads a unique story all about the mice of Eastgate House. £2 per child, £4 per adult, under 5s free. No need to book, just turn up.Or simply just visit the house and discover how the Victorians created many of the traditions we enjoy today.

Charles Dickens Writing ChaletStanding in Eastgate Gardens, this is the private space where the great author worked on some of his best loved novels and publications. Medway Council is currently working with The Dickens Fellowship to raise funds to restore and conserve. At present the chalet is too fragile for visitors to go inside.

Guildhall MuseumBuilt in 1687, the Guildhall Museum is one of the finest 17th century civic buildings in Kent and featured in Dickens’ novel Great Expectations. In Dickens’ time the Guildhall was used as a magistrate’s court and it is where Pip was brought by Mr Pumblechook. Free.

Rochester CastleGet a bird’s eye view of the Dickensian Christmas festival from the top of Rochester Castle Keep. Having survived three sieges, the castle has many tales to tell, so come and explore for yourself.Adults £6.40, children/concessions £4Open: 10am-4pm (last entry 3.15pm).

The Six Poor Travellers’ HouseInspiration for Dickens’ 1854 Christmas story, The Seven Poor Travellers. Open to the public during the festival, courtesy of the residents of the almshouse. Open: 11am-1pm and 2-4pm (closed during procession).
