Be Safe From the Principal POOL PARTY Families are reminded that our annual pool party is on tonight, between 4.30-6pm. There will be sausages and Zooper Doopers available free of charge to our school families and students will be allowed in the pool under parent/guardian supervision.
It’s a great way to catch up with other Bass Valley families and staff. LABOUR DAY HOLIDAY There will be no school next Monday, 11th March as it is the Labour Day public holiday. Enjoy and stay safe over the long weekend. DEFIB FROM BENDIGO BANK We were fortunate enough to have Bendigo Bank donate a Defibrillator to our school. Our staff have all been trained in how to operate this device and it will be located in the office. We really appreciate Bendigo Bank providing our school with this important life saving equipment. UNIFORM REMINDER Leggings are NOT part of our school’s uniform and can not be worn as outer wear. Navy leggins can be worn under a navy skirt or shorts, as a replacement to tights, but not on their own. As we approach the colder weather, if students wish to wear pants, they must be navy track suit or cargo pants. Also, it is still compulsory for all students to wear a hat during recess and lunchtime in term 1. GYM UPDATE Next week the Pulastic finish will be applied to the floor of our gymnasium. We will not have access to the gym for the remainder of the term. 5/6 SOVEREIGN HILL CAMP Our Grade 5 / 6 camp to Sovereign Hill leaves on Wednesday 13th March. If you are dropping your child / ren off at school that day, please make sure you are on time. Leanne Edwards Principal

WE LOVE MATHS AT BVPS! We love Maths at BVPS! Each fortnight we will feature activities in your life where maths is used. We are aiming to open up discussions at home and highlight that maths is very important. Shopping – love it or loathe it, shopping uses all sorts of maths. How much will that shirt be at 20% off? What change will I get after buying my pie at the footy? How long will I have to save my pocket money to buy that new LEGO set? How many more examples can you think of?

FIRE SAFE KIDS This week CFAs Fire Safe Kids program has been presented to all grades. Depending on the grade level we speak about how to be safe around fire, calling “000”, basic fire science and fire danger ratings. Each class will have homework. Mainly this will involve discussing the Fire Safe Kids session with the adults in their house. It may include discussing your families fire plan for both bushfires and home, learning their address, discovering escape routes if a fire started in their house and finding their designated meeting place if there is a fire in the home. GO-BAGS Go-bags are Emergency kits for evacuation. CFA recommend you keep an Emergency Kit prepared so it is easy to grab if you need to evacuate. Packed in an overnight bag the kit should include;
A change of clothes, toiletries, sanitary products
Important items – passports, photographs,
insurance papers, wills. It’s handy to scan these and store them on a USB stick.
Medicines and first aid kits
Mobile phone and charger
Battery powered radio, torch and spare batteries
Water bottle and snacks
Woollen blankets
Contact information for your doctor, council and
power company The children have been shown a modified kit that includes a change of clothes, blanket, teddy, book, water, snacks, toothbrush and toothpaste, sunscreen and parent contact details. These kits allow a child to have their own things and lightens the load in the main emergency kit. BVPS would like to send many thanks to the CFA volunteers who came to the school to run the Fire Safe Kids program.
HEADLICE Parents are kindly reminded to check their children for headlice weekly. Any lice must be treated immediately and all eggs removed, otherwise the cycle continues. Once you have treated the hair, a follow up treatment is required one week later.
