INTRODUCTION

THROUGHOUT MY QUESTIONNAIRE, I ASKED A COMBINATION OF BOTH QUANTITATIVE QUESTIONS (QUESTIONS WITH SET ANSWERS) AND QUALITATIVE QUESTIONS (QUESTIONS THAT REQUIRE OPINION). THE ADVANTAGE OF USING QUANTITATIVE QUESTIONS IS THAT THEY ENABLE YOU TO SEE EXACTLY THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE PICKED A SPECIFIC ANSWER, GIVING YOU A CLEAR VIEW OF YOUR RESULTS. QUALITATIVE QUESTIONS ARE ALSO OF GOOD USE AS THEY GIVE MORE DETAILED ANSWERS.I ASKED 4 MALES AND 4 FEMALES 12 QUESTIONS. BOTH GENDERS INCLUDED AGES 16-18, MEANING THAT THEY WERE OF THE RIGHT AGE OF MY MAGAZINE'S TARGET AUDIENCE. THIS HELPED ME WITH CERTAIN ASPECTS OF MY MAGAZINE AS IT TOLD ME WHAT THE TARGET AUDIENCE THOUGHT ON CERTAIN THINGS, REGARDING MUSIC MAGAZINES. I ASKED AN EQUAL AMOUNT OF PEOPLE OF BOTH GENDERS AS I WANTED MY MAGAZINE TO BE APPEALING TO BOTH GENDERS.AS WELL AS THIS, I MADE CERTAIN THAT I ASKED A MIX OF DIFFERENT ETHNICITIES TO MAKE MY QUESTIONNAIRE RESULTS AS DIVERSE AS POSSIBLE.ULTIMATELY, MY MAGAZINE APPEALS TO ANYONE WHO ENJOYS THE DANCE/TRANCE MUSIC GENRE BETWEEN THE SPECIFIC AGE RANGE OF 16-18

• AS I SAID IN THE INTRODUCTION, AN EQUAL AMOUNT OF MALES AND FEMALES TOOK PART IN MY QUESTIONNAIRE. THIS IS BECAUSE THE DANCE/TRANCE MUSIC GENRE CATERS FOR BOTH SEXES, WHICH ADDS A REALISTIC TARGET AUDIENCE FOR MY MAGAZINE. ALSO, I ASKED PEOPLE FROM THE AGES OF 16-18. 20% OF WHICH WERE 18, WHICH IS THE AGE YOU HAVE AT LEAST TO BE WHEN YOU GO CLUBBING, WHICH IS A COMMON THEME OF MY CHOSEN MUSIC GENRE. THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE I ASKED WERE 16 AND 17 , BOTH 40%.THE TARGET AUDIENCE OF MY MAGAZINE IS 16-18.

• 100% OF THE PEOPLE I ASKED WERE STUDENTS. THIS IS DUE TO EVERYONE I ASKED WAS AT COLLEGE, BUT THIS WORKS IN MY FAVOUR. THE TARGET AUDIENCE OF MY MAGAZINE IS PEOPLE OF THAT AGE, WHICH SUITS MY GENRE OF MUSIC. HOWEVER, I FOUND OUT DURING MY RESULTS THAT DANCE/TRANCE MUSIC IS NOT THE MOST POPULAR OF THE PEOPLE I ASKED, INDIE ROCK IS. THIS TELLS ME THAT I WOULD NEED TO CHOOSE A MEDIA INSTITUTION THAT CATERS FOR MY MUSIC GENRE IN A MAGAZINE PERHAPS. ONLY 20% OF THE PEOPLE ASKED SAID THAT THEIR FAVOURITE GENRE OF MUSIC WAS DANCE/TRANCE.

• UNFORTUNATELY, THEY MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE ASKED SAID THAT THEY DON'T ENJOY DANCE/TRANCE MUSIC AT ALL; 40% BEING THE AMOUNT. ALSO, THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE ASKED SAID THEY NEVER LISTEN TO THIS GENRE OF MUSIC, 60% BEING THE NUMBER. THIS IS USEFUL AS NOW I KNOW THAT PEOPLE OF 16-18 DO NOT LIKE THE GENRE OF MUSIC, SO I SHOULD PROBABLY NOW TARGET THE MAGAZINE AT AGES FROM 18 TO 21.

• FROM THE RESULTS FROM QUESTION 7, I CAN SEE THAT THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE ASKED (50%) ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE ARTIST/DJ CALVIN HARRIS, WHO IS THE HIGHEST PAID DJ IN THE WORLD. HARRIS IS THE FACE OF DANCE MUSIC CURRENTLY, AND THIS SHOWS THAT THIS GENRE OF MUSIC IS WELL KNOWN , ALLOWING FOR MY MAGAZINE TO BE POPULAR TOO. ALSO, QUESTION 8'S RESULTS PROVE TO ME THAT MUSIC MAGAZINES ARE POPULAR WITH THIS AGE OF PEOPLE, AS NO ONE AT ALL SAID THAT THEY DIDN'T ENJOY MUSIC MAGAZINES. THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE (20%) SAID THAT MUSIC MAGAZINES ARE "OKAY" WHICH TELLS ME THAT MY MAGAZINE IS LIKELY TO SELL, JUST PURELY BECAUSE THE AUDIENCE OF MY QUESTIONNAIRE ARE CONTENT WITH THEM.

• TYPICALLY, STUDENTS DO NOT HAVE A LOT OF MONEY AND SO IT IS VITAL THAT I CHOOSE A PRICE WHICH IS SUITABLE TO THE TARGET AUDIENCE. MOST PEOPLE (TOTALLING AT 80%) SAID THAT A REALISTIC PRICE FOR A MUSIC MAGAZINE IS BETWEEN £1.00 AND £2.00,. SO MY MAGAZINE WILL NOW BE PRICED WITHIN THAT RANGE FOR IT TO FIT WITH MY TARGET AUDIENCE. "NME" AND "KERRANG!" ARE PROVED TO BE THE MOST POPULAR MUSIC MAGAZINES WITH THE PEOPLE I ASKED AS BOTH WERE EQUALLED AT 40% WHEN ASKED WHICH SPECIFIC MUSIC MAGAZINE THEY READ CURRENTLY. I SHOULD PROBABLY USE SIMILAR CONVENTIONS OF THESE MAGAZINES IN MY OWN TO ATTRACT MY TARGET AUDIENCE AS MUCH AS THOSE MAGAZINES DO.

• QUESTION 11 HAS MADE ME REALISE THAT THE POPULAR MAGAZINES RELEASE THEIR ISSUES MONTHLY, WHICH WOULD BE A WISE IDEA FOR MY MAGAZINE, TO REACH THE TARGET AUDIENCE ACCORDINGLY. RELEASING MY MAGAZINE MONTHLY ALLOWS THE TARGET AUDIENCE TO SAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO BUY THE MAGAZINE ALSO, ALBEIT CHEAP ENOUGH ALREADY.
