DID YOU KNOW?The English Language Content Enhancement (ELCE) course was introduced as a result of the English Language Curriculum and Pedagogy Review Committee’s (ELCPRC) recommendations. Feedback from principals as well as Focus Group Discussions suggested that many English Language teachers need to strengthen their content knowledge in linguistics, applied linguistics and English Language.

The role of beginning teacher in planning and enacting an English Language curriculum
Knowledge and skills relating to ▪ the use of rich texts▪ questioning for learning in the classroom▪ assessing reading based on the 2013 exam syllabus

This course will enable you to: understand school-based English Language (EL)
Curriculum development in the Singapore secondary school context
examine the role of beginning teachers in implementing a school-based EL curriculum
examine knowledge and skills relating to the use of rich texts questioning for learning in the classroom assessing reading based on the 2013 exam

Course structure – Part 1(8 hrs)
The course starts with this e-learning component. This part enables you:
to understand school-based EL curriculum development in the Singapore secondary school context
examine the challenges & opportunities you face as a beginning teacher in planning & enacting an EL curriculum
to reflect on your involvement in your school's EL curriculum work as a beginning teacher.
Course structure – Part 2 (12 hrs)
In these hands-on sessions, you will examine knowledge & skills relating to
the use of rich texts for teaching questioning for learning in the classroom setting reading comprehension questions
based on the 2013 exam syllabus.
Course structure – Part 3 (16 hrs)
These component will require you to review, reflect and consolidate your learning from Parts 1 and 2 so as to complete your Assignment 2.
