General Quality Management: Quality Management Plan QM-Plan (Project Handbook)


A document which defines when and by whom certain procedures and related resources should to be used concerning a specific project, product, process or contract.

Typical Tasks of Quality Management and Quality Assurance


The Quality Manager is responsible for the execution of tasks according to the project specific quality plan. These may include:

• Coordination of all QA related tasks • Trainings • Verification of the quality system at subsuppliers • Interface to the client with respect to quality related topics • Check and (if applicable) release of documents with respect to quality related topics • Supervision of the in-house fabrication for quality related topics (e.g. NDT, welding supervision and control) • Identification and recording of non-conforming products • Initiation of preventive actions to avoid non-conformities • Initiations, recommendations or proposals for the solutions of non-conformities • Verification of implementation of actions with respect to quality • Execution of internal audits

Typical Tasks of Quality Management and Quality Assurance


Quality Assurance Quality Assurance assures the conformity of the product to the contractual requirements by verification, i.e. check of the properties with desired values. These tasks are carried out by staff which are not directly involved in the works to be checked. Welding Technology • checks contractual and design documents with respect to welding requirements • prepares welding plans and procedure specifications • carries out qualifications for the welding process and welders • gives counsel on welding requirements during the definition of design, materials and dimensioning • supervises the welding process

General Quality Assurance


• Validation, selection and evaluation of firms • Preparation of Inspection and Test Plans • Supervision of the preparation of documents as well as checking of external firms‘ documentation • Preparation of contract-related Quality Management Plans • Analysis and implementation of prescribed Quality Assurance Specifications

Inspection and Test Plans are the main tool for the quality assurance. They are prepared for the main components, machines and fabrication phases. Basic information is provided for ▪ When is the test performed, how and to which extent? ▪ Who performs the test and who witnesses? ▪ What are the requirements? ▪ Which procedures are valid? ▪ How is the result documented? The Inspection and Test Plans (also called Quality Inspection and Production Plans) are accompanying documents during fabrication.
