With the right mix of education, expectations and partnerships, our students can excel in their learning in a safe culture here at Centennial High School. Students need vast amounts of support in being safe, finding autonomy, building confidence, and taking responsibility in their path toward success. As educa-tors, we take the time to cultivate a culture on campus that fosters safety, autonomy, confidence, and responsibility in our students. We continue to focus on the safety of all students, staff and community as our top priority. Our school has a detailed emergency plan so we can respond to situations effectively and we work closely with police, fire, and emergency response agencies to implement plans. As part of our efforts, we conduct drills and professional development training for our staff to create the culture of a safe and secure envi-ronment. We appreciate your support and the partnership of our local agencies in our efforts to ensure Coyote safety. Centennial students are very much a part of creating a culture of achievement and are responsible for the safety of our school in how they display Coyote Pride. They choose to take pride in their school by:

-being kind to each other and accepting of all students -cleaning up after themselves at lunch and taking care of our facilities -safe driving in the parking lot and in our community -helping a peer in need whether it is in the classroom or socially -having a ride home after school so as not to loiter around campus unsupervised -representing CeHS on and off the field/court at events both home and away with integrity -helping out in our community with service projects and community service

Our students gain confidence when they take part in the many opportunities available on campus, from class participation to extracurricular activities to athletics, by engaging with honor, integrity and excel-lence. Most of all, our students take responsibility in positively communicating with their peers and adults while navigating through high school life. Together we all must continue an ongoing pursuit of excellence in our school with the integrity of our words and actions. We hope you have a chance to come out and watch a softball game this spring. Parents, players and

coaches have been working hard for months to raise funds to improve the field facilities. Through a

combination of fundraising events and partnering with a local entities and student organizations, we

have been able to renovate the softball area with trees, concrete seating, a brand new sound system

and the snack bar is up and running. Thanks to all involved as we are very appreciative of their hard

work!

We appreciate the hard work and determination of ALL parents, players, coaches and the generosity

of our donors for ALL programs. We’re looking forward to many great seasons ahead!

Clubs and Activities

Congratulations Centennial High School STUDCO for hosting an ex-

ceptional Unity Day. All 7 high school Student Councils gathered at

Centennial and used their F.O.R.C.E. (flexibility, organization, respect,

charity, enthusiasm) to further develop their leadership skills in order

to positively influence their campus and community. Each student

council also brought various supplies and together, the students made

hundreds of hygiene bags for Phoenix refugees.

Centennial High School Interact Club recently volunteered at The Ter-

races. Students worked closely with members of The Terraces to cre-

ate Mardi Gras masks. Thank you Interact Club for serving our com-

munity and lighting up the faces of the residents at The Terraces.

Centennial’s Bel Canto Choir earned a SUPERIOR rating at the 2017

NAU Jazz and Madrigal Choral Festival! Furthermore, Centennial’s

Jazz Band earned an EXCELLENT rating at the NAU Jazz Festival

Coyote Family,

With spring right around the corner the weather is nicer, flowers are blooming and the sun is shining. With that I would like to

give a few reminders on school the dress code. Arizona law and District policy provide for a safe, positive school campus that is

conducive to learning. Appropriate dress is critical to this effort. General guidelines to be observed are that a student’s attire

should be neat, clean, and modest. Clothing shall not be transparent/sheer, distracting or disruptive to the school environment.

The following are specific guidelines to assist you and your student in making good decisions about what to wear to school:

Tops must be modest and non – revealing as to not show: midriff, cleavage, bare backs, and the sides of the body or bra

straps. Tops must be sufficient in length to fully cover the waistband of the bottoms. Garment straps must be 2” or

wider

Pants, shorts, and /or skirts must be reserved and appropriate length so as not to reveal undergarments or skin through large

holes, ragged or cut off garments. Shorts and skirts must be long enough to cover buttocks even when seated. Re-

member to enjoy the weather, but dress with “Coyote Pride!”

Students are on Spring Break next week and the end of the school year is right around the corner. Many would agree

that teenagers with too much free time on their hands are more likely to get into trouble. Teens will tell you their par-

ents don’t always know what they are up to, and when you add in boredom and freedom from routine, teens may do

things they would not ordinarily do. Now is the time to start planning for the summer. Many young people in our com-

munity will join the workforce, participate in a summer rec program, play summer sports or volunteer.

Anyone who has ever volunteered for a worthwhile cause knows you get back far more than you give. This is also a

great way to learn, meet new people and to help out in your community. I have seen some of the wonderful volunteer

work that some Coyotes are already doing in our community and they inspire the adults on campus. My middle

daughter loves baseball. As a junior in High School she served as an intern for Spring Training at the Peoria Sports

Complex and at the end of the season they offered her a job. Eight years later she still works during Spring Training at

the Complex and the experience she gained along with the relationships made helped with her current full time posi-

tion.

Teens are no different than adults, some are already out looking and planning while others will need a little help put-

ting a plan together. Before we know it, these young men and women will take our places, some will be parents, most

will be very successful and some not so much but there is no doubt decisions they make now can and will affect their

future. Take advantage of the many positive opportunities that are available!

Thank you,

Officer Dave Fernandez #7727

Hello Coyote parents and guardians,

Centennial has a pantry on campus called the Coyote Closet. This closet holds food items, school

supplies, toiletries and some adult clothing but the focus is on food and toiletries for our families

that may need assistance. We are always working on gathering more donations to fill it.

If you are in need of an emergency bag of food or any other item, please call ahead as it is by ap-

pointment only. Also, don’t forget PUSD’s free or reduced lunch. You just have to fill out an appli-

cation that can be found in our front office or online at: schoollunchapp.com. Applications are

transmitted directly to PUSD Food & Nutrition and a determination is usually made within 24-48

hours.

Students come in with headaches, dizziness and stomach aches due to lack of eating so we want

to help wherever we can. Please contact me anytime for assistance.

Thank you and be well,

Lisa Alexander, RN, BSN

Future Coyotes – our counselors and peer counselors will be heading

to our feeder schools very soon to meet with the 8th graders and get

them one step closer and excited about being a Coyote.
