Pearl Diving

Read the paragraphs, and then answer the questions below.

Paragraph Diagram

In the past, in Qatar one important and difficult job that people had was being a pearl diver. Men would be gone for many days, on a boat. They would have to hold their breath and dive into the water. They were looking for oysters with pearls. Many oysters do not have pearls, so they would have to dive many times to get the pearls. They were on a boat at sea, so sometimes they did not have enough food or water. Doing a lot of swimming under the water was also very hard work.

All about Camels

Read the paragraphs, and then answer the questions below.

Two Paragraphs PicturesCamels are very special animals, because they walk in the desert for a long time without food and water. They can live to be 40-50 years old.

There are two different types of camels. The Dromedary camel lives in Qatar, and other

countries in the area. The Bactrian camel lives in China and Mongolia. A Dromedary camel has

one hump, and a Bactrian camel has two humps. A hump is the bump on a camel’s back.

Camels can give transportation, meat and milk. For a long time, people have used camels for long trips across the desert. Bedouins used camels to help move themselves and their
