WHAT IS A BRAND? A brand is something which the audience

associates with the projects, usually a logo or slogan. Not only does this help the audience associate, it also gives it personality and helps it become known for unique reasons.

Examples of famous brands are HMV and Coca-Cola, two totally separate products, but equally successful logos.

promise to deliver a specific set of features, benefits and service consistently brand is a symbol, a name or a logo that someone owns in the minds of the customery.

In the music industry a brand image is something that associates a fan to the artist. Usually an artist’s own unique style. For example, their clothing, the way the look or how the are presented and what they represent… [EG: Lady Gaga’s brand image would be; unique, quirky and weird.] or [Avril Lavigne being; alternate, punk and youthful]

We wanted our artist to be of the alternate pop genre, these examples conform to this genre with their unique style and videos, they helped us decide on our brand image and gave us inpiration.

WHAT IS YOUR BRAND IMAGE?This is our original plan of our artist’s brand image, we summed her up in 4 words [Fun, Intelligent, Youthful and Quirky]. This brand is represented in how she looks, with the bright blue wig showing she’s quirky, her dress sense connoting that she’s youthful and the political-ness of the video showing her to be intelligent by knowing what is happening in the world. Her brand image also revolves around the name of the album which is ‘Hollywood’. This is conveyed by her blue/red/white dress sense and in her blue hair and red lipstick.

HOW HAVE YOU CONSTRUCTED A SENSE OF BRAND IDENTITY USING MEDIA LANGUAGE?

The first word we used to describe our brand image is ‘fun’… this is shown in our video by the use of the celebrity masks…

I have used this example as our feedback showed that most people found this element funny to watch. It also adds to the videos theme of America. But, since most of the viewers found our video funny, we know we have created a successful brand image through the video by the use of mise-en-scene.

HOW HAVE YOU CONSTRUCTED A SENSE OF BRAND IDENTITY USING MEDIA LANGUAGE?

Our second brand image word is intelligent: This is mainly shown in the video by our artist by using the American flag in an ironic way as opposed to a patriotic way.. This is shown by the frequent use of the flag, but her sarcastic facial expressions connote otherwise. Our audience would understand this, as the intelligent brand image has already been pushed.

HOW HAVE YOU CONSTRUCTED A SENSE OF BRAND IDENTITY USING MEDIA LANGUAGE?

Our third characteristic of brand image is ‘youthful’. This is obviously shown in the age of our artist, but can also be seen in the costume choice. I think the way she dresses would match the youths that would be watching, even though they still conform to our red/white/red colour scheme. I think the sunglasses also help strive towards the youthful image.

HOW HAVE YOU CONSTRUCTED A SENSE OF BRAND IDENTITY USING MEDIA LANGUAGE? Our last word to describe her brand image is

‘quirky’. I think we achieve this with the use of props and mise-en-scene. The blue wig definitely makes her style quirky. The masks help make the video quirky and the overall vibe of the video helps strive towards this image. The use of brightly coloured block backgrounds also helps the video obtain a quirky feel. The mixed range of camera shots also helps this by adding more interest to the video.

ANCILLARY TASKS.

ANCILLARY TASKS. As you can see, our ancillary definitely follows the same theme

as our video did. It matches the video by using the same mise-en-scene [The wig, the costume and the character performance]. This helps the audience match the album with the video. Another thing that matches them is the American theme, the American flag is a prominent image used throughout our video, therefore we found it relevant to convey the image through the print work to. All our panels match, which makes it noticeable as all part of the same project. It’s also bright and her expressions help show her fun and quirky side to the brand image. The sunglasses are also featured helping towards the youthful image. The colour scheme is definitely consistent. The blue/white and reds are evenly shown throughout the slides. Her logos is also featured, it’s newspaper cutout style also makes it stand out as unique and quirky. The only print task that doesn’t show the American flag image is the advert. We wanted it to be simple and make her stand out from the crowd, like her style of music is supposed to.
