Year 9-10 News

Student of the Week

Harrison Goodes — for always contributing to classroom discussions and using good manners.

Jack Gould — for adding lots of detail to his writing.

Kaitlin Broad — for thinking carefully.

Carolyn Fergusson — for consistently trying her best, helping others and doing the right thing.

Zoe Stewart — for always trying her best and ‘having a go’ — with a great effort on her speech.

Tomorrow, Wednesday the Pre school students will be visiting the Prep/1 room for the morning.

Planning for 2015

Next year we have booked tickets for students who will be in Prep to Grade 6 to go to see the ‘Lion King’ at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne. This will be a special opportunity for students to see a spectacular world renown performance at a reduced price. Tickets have been reserved for the middle of next year, although they need to be paid for by March. Next week we will send home a note requesting interest and asking for a deposit.

Year P-4 News Organisation:

This is an issue that keeps popping up as the year draws closer to the end. Just because we are in Term 4 doesn't mean that the effort should stop with your studies. Senior exams will be in November and there will definitely be a Maths, English and Humanities exam (with others to be announced later).

Organisation is essential. Ensure that all tasks are completed within the set time. Lunchtimes and homework night are also available for extra study if you are having issues working at home. As role models in our school it is imperative that you demonstrate positive attitudes to your studies and do the best you can. The work load as you continue upwards in your schooling years does not subside, it only grows. Build on your study skills now to better prepare yourself for the future.

Hats:

It is disappointing once again to have to mention hats. For your own health and safety term one and four are hat compulsory. There should be no arguments or confusion as this has been the case for a good decade. Once more, the onus is on you to be a positive role model to the junior members of the school in relation to your attitude and general behaviour.

Mental Health First Aid:

As of next week you will all start your M.H.F.A. course. Take the opportunity to learn about some of the biggest issues that concern you and your friends and attend these afternoons with an open mind. It's never a bad time to ask 'Are you ok?'.

“Let the Music Move You” Arts Performance Prep-8

There was laughing and performing, singing and dancing. The ladies name was Kristy. Most of the students got up and danced or played an instrument. She was hilarious. She made us all sing. Everyone went out of the stadium with sore cheeks from laughing. Ally Burke

Oh it’s the day that we go and have fun. Wait! Wait! We’re missing out on PE. Unless it could be fun too! I walk into the stadium thinking it was a magic show, but when I sat down she was speaking gibberish. We did shuffling, singing, dancing. At the end of the day I thought it was fun! Josh Lindberg

A woman came to our school and she did a performance about music. It was called ‘Let the Music Move You’. She did a lot of singing. She also got a lot of volunteers to come up on stage. Everyone who came up on the stage had an important job. They all either sang, danced, made music or held something up. Some of the volunteers were even given costumes. It was awesome! She asked and answered a lot of questions and she also got most people to sing. James Douglass

Save the CyberSafety Date

Internet safety presentation helps children stay safe online

Young people today are immersed in digital technologies. They use the internet and mobile phones to socialise, study, exchange ideas and play. While online activity has many benefits, there are also risks.

To help your children stay safe online, Pyramid Hill College is hosting a Cybersmart Outreach—Internet Safety Awareness Day. Designed for parents, teachers and students, this presentation is provided by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (the ACMA) as part of a national program of Cybersmart initia-tives.

The Cybersmart Outreach—Internet Safety Awareness presenta-tion is thorough and non-technical. It covers a range of issues in-cluding:

• the ways children use the internet and emerging technologies

• potential risks for children online, such as cyberbullying,

identity theft, inappropriate contact and exposure to inappropriate content

• tips to help children stay safe online.

The day will include presentations for Students during the day, and presentations for Teachers and Parents.

The Cybersmart Outreach—Internet Safety Awareness

presentaon for parents will be held at the college on:

Monday 17th of November at 6:30pm

The presentaon is conducted by an ACMA Cybersmart trainer and

is free of charge.

School Hats

Please make sure that any school hats taken home are returned to school for your child to wear at recess and lunchtimes.

It is school policy that all students wear a hat outdoors in terms one and four.

If students do not have a hat at school, then they will be required to sit under the veranda area during recess and lunch.

Please note that the College does not have any more spare hats to give out.

Pyramid Hill College Students

live at Wedderburn!

Congratulations to our Pyramid Hill College students who performed live at Wedderburn last Friday. They presented their music which they had recorded on this year’s Kool Skools CD in front of a big crowd. It was a pleasure to see how this experience has generated confidence and creativity in our musically inclined students. No doubt it was a joy for parents to see this performance and a source of great pride.

These CD’s, which are a collaboration of Wedderburn, Boort and Pyramid Hill Colleges, are now available at our front office at the very reasonable price of $5.00 each. Please do yourself a favour and buy this CD to support this valuable music experience for the future. Well done to Melanie Bonnano, Daniel Hercott, Emily Stewart, Samantha Treacy, Feliz Garchitorena and Rica Balla. YOU ROCK!
