Putzmeister delivery line systems for concrete pumps

Concrete pumps have becomemore and more powerful over thelast few decades. Whereas con-crete pumps in the 80’s generallyhad a conveying performance of60 - 80 m3/h, conveying pumpsnowadays have a conveying per-formance of 150 - 200 m3/h. Thishas a considerable influence onthe stability under load of the deliv-ery lines because the greater theamount pumped the higher thepressure is, the greater the flowspeed of the material and thereforethe greater the wear is at the sametime.

The product series of thePutzmeister delivery lines hand inhand with the respective pumpresult in an optimum system for theeconomic and safe conveying ofconcrete and high-density solidpumps.

Concreting with truck-mountedconcrete pumps

Delivery lines for truck-mountedconcrete pumps must be flexible,economic and safe.The most flexible system is thePutzmeister quick-action systemSK. It is flexible and at the sametime very robust thanks to the fullygalvanized couplings. A largepalette of accessories that havemore than proven themselves inthe field help to place the concretefor the great variety of operations.

Depending upon the demandsmade, Putzmeister have developeddelivery lines with different wearbehaviour:

■ ST 52 plus lines as reasonably-priced ECOLINE variant for lowwear requirements

■ Two-layer delivery lines as standard line with hardenedinner pipe

■ The especially wear-resistantPutzmeister PROLINE is re-inforced at the points with thehighest wear

The Putzmeister Ultraflex® PXSystem is optimal for extensionlines and especially for the use ofrefurbishing mobiles.

Concreting with stationary concrete pumps

Delivery lines for stationary con-crete pumps must above all behigh-pressure resistant, safe andeconomic. They should also beeasy to lay and be able to adapt toall operation conditions thanks toextensive accessories. The SKSystem for truck-mounted concretepumps is used for smaller concret-ing jobs with lower pressures.Extension lines – especially withhoses – ought to be combined withthe especially flexible Ultraflex®

System PX.

The Zentrifix® System ZX is ideal forlarger conveying distances (100metres upwards) or for differencesin height. This system can endureextreme pressures, is absolutelywater-resistant and has beendesigned to be low-wearing at thecoupling connections. ZX lineshave been successfully used withPutzmeister concrete pumps fornumerous world records both inhigh-rise and long-distance convey-ing: buildings up to 421 m, differ-ences in height of 532 m and con-veying distances of over 2000 mprove just how efficient the ZXSystem is.Depending upon the application,pressures of up to 250 bar havebeen mastered.

Delivery lines for construction sitesunderground must be easy to layand also safe and high-pressureresistant.The Putzmeister Zentrifix® SystemZX ideally meets these require-ments. The rigid and absolutelyleak-proof connection works in thesame way as hydraulic connect-ions as the seal is pressed tightlyinto its seat when assembled.

The large wall thicknesses with theZX lines additionally result in a highwear reserve.ZX delivery lines are used forbackfilling, de-watering mines andfor transporting concrete over largedistances.

Further tasks underground areshotcreting as well as injectionwork. Here both the quick-actioncoupling system SK and theUltraflex® PX System are used.

Delivery lines in industry

Delivery lines in industry mustespecially be safe and reliableover a long period of operation.The pressure resistance with pulsat-ing load is one particular criterionin designing the delivery line. The Zentrifix® System was modifiedfor this operational purpose. Theso-called ZX-IP lines have proventhemselves both for abrasive andnon-abrasive pumping media. ZX-IP lines are used in seweragetreatment works, waste utilization,power stations, for desludgingwater, in mines and also for a number of special applications.

According to the specific applicat-ion required, they can be modifiedwith regard to design, material andsurface treatment so that they opti-mally suit the pump and medium tobe conveyed.

Every application sets differentrequirements on the delivery lineused - e.g. different materials, special pressure ratios or simplylocal conditions.

As a summary we would like toshow you the three main systemsof the Putzmeister delivery line programme.

SK standard coupling system

The delivery line can be angled differently up to 2°. The delivery lineoptimally adapts to the delivery lineaccording to the conditions on yourconstruction site.

By the way this is the standard delivery line for Putzmeister truck-mounted concrete pumps.

In addition they are also ideal forshorter stationary lines on roughground. In this case, delivery press-ures up to 130 bar are also possible.

Couplings

Putzmeister SK couplings are dropforged and standardly zinc-platedby galvanisation. A safety split pinprevents the coupling openingunintentionally under pressure.

The Putzmeister delivery linesystem SK is available in three different classes of quality:

■ ST 52 plus■ IH delivery lines■ 2-layer delivery pipes

Delivery pipes ST 52 plus

These delivery pipes are manu-factured out of steel ST 52.0 withtest certificate 3.1 B according toDIN 2448 / DIN EN 10220.

The works-internal designation ST 52 plus is a result of the lowtolerances and the guaranteednominal diameter as the minimumwall thickness for these deliverylines.

It is economical for standard con-crete compositions (with low abras-ion) and low pump performances.

IH delivery lines

IH delivery lines are especially suit-able for greater stress and abrasivetypes of concrete. Compared to the ST 52 pipelines IH pipes usuallyattain a service life that is 2-3 timeshigher.

They are manufactured out ofsingle layer, inductively hardenedsteel.

We recommend the following deliv-ery elbows both for the delivery linesof type ST 52 and the IH pipes:

■ Manganese hard-cast elbowsPipe elbows are subject to greaterwear. This is why we only use long-life manganese hard cast elbows inpipelines ST 52 plus and IH.

■ Large radius elbowsThis type of pipe elbow usually hasthicker walls. Putzmeister especiallyuses these for stationary concretepumps.

The SK delivery line system

Putzmeister SK delivery linessystems enable quick laying of thedelivery line. They can be rotatedaxially at the point of connection.They are therefore especially idealfor the following types of operation:

Two-layer pipes

Wear means costs. And the cheap-est pipeline is not always thecheapest in the long run when thecosts per cubic metre pumped areconsidered.Putzmeister especially uses two-layer pipes when materials thatcause a great deal of wear are tobe pumped. Also when greatamounts are to be pumped andwhen efficiency is the main priority.These two-layer pipes consist of ahardened and especially wear-resistant inner pipe and a soft outerone which safely absorbs the highpressures. To complete the system,there are elbows, reduction piecesand further pipe line parts that aremanufactured out of hardened ortwo-layer materials.

The standard two-layer pipe hasan inner hardness of 63 HRCRockwell (the equivalent of approxi-mately 780 Vickers). For deliverylines on the placing boom, the innerpipe is 2 mm (PM 22) or 2.5 mm(PM 252) thick; the outer pipe is 2 mm thick. Thicker lines can alsobe used on the pump or for station-ary lines. These are usually then 5.6 mm on the inside and 3 mm onthe outside (PM 53).

These are especially ideal for fixed and stationary pipeline laying

The ZX delivery line system

The Putzmeister ZX delivery linesystem is absolutely leak-proof andhigh-pressure resistant.

It is especially ideal for high-riseand long-distance conveying (ZX-BP).

Concrete high rise conveying over532 m and long distance concretepumping over 2500 m prove thereliability of this delivery line system.

In addition these delivery lines areused for a number of industrialapplications (ZX-IP).

Examples of this are sewage sludges, water sludges, electro-filterash and other paste-like media.

ZX delivery line connections consistof flanges with male parts (ZXV)and female part (ZXM). The O-ringinserted in a groove functions asan hydraulic seal here.

Couplings

PM Zentrifix® couplings are drop-flanged and zinc-plated bygalvanisation.

You can choose between 3 differ-ent types:

■ Screw couplingsFor the quick mounting of deliv-ery lines which seldomly ornever have to be laid.

■ Handle couplingsFor the quick assembly of deliv-ery lines which often have to belaid

■ Wedge fitting couplings which have to be opened asquick as lightning, e.g. at pointsof discharge or cleaningconnections

For this we recommend the follow-ing delivery elbows:

■ Small radius elbows with radius of 280-400 mm

■ Large radius elbows with radius r = 1000 or r = 2000 mm. Special radii are possible.

ZX concrete delivery lines are usually made out of steel ST 52.On request we also manufacturelines out of a number of specialsteels (special steel or highly wear-resistant steel, e.g. 2-layer pipes).

ZX-BP delivery lines

ZX concrete delivery lines are designed by static calculation forthe given pressures in the concrete.These calculations can also betaken as a basis for other highlyabrasive delivery media.

ZX-IP delivery lines

ZX IP delivery lines are designedfor the quoted operating pressuresby dynamic calculation. The lineshave a high fatigue strength andare therefore long-lasting and suit-able for non-abrasive media. Andespecially when high pressurelines have to be laid reliably for alonger period.

Hose line system PX-Ultraflex®

Especially ideal for quick mounting and dismounting of line

The Putzmeister delivery linesystem PX-Ultraflex® combines theadvantages of the SK system andthose of the ZX system.

The system is absolutely leak-proofdue to the O-ring seal. Theconnection is rigid but can stillrotate axially. The coupling connect-ion is centred by the father andmother system. A wear-free transit-ion is the result of this.

A special advantage here is thesimple operation. Connections caneasily be made just by one man.

A further advantage here is thecleaning. Due to a simplification ofthe seal, concrete residue caneasily be wiped away manually.The seal no longer has to be scratched out at great effort.

Due to these properties the PXsystem is mainly used for hoselines which have to be mountedfrequently and quickly, and dis-mounted again. This system hasalso well-proven itself for pipeconnections that have to be oftenlaid.

Couplings

The well-proven SK standard coup-lings can be used as couplings.They are drop-forged and standard-ly zinc plated by galvanisation.This guarantees a long service lifeand excellent operation.

Hoses

The Putzmeister delivery hoses arenot just used for pumping concrete.In addition also mortar and floor-screed mixes as well as abrasiveand chemical materials are con-veyed.

This means that the delivery hosesare however constantly subject to ahigh stress.Tested quality and long-service lifeof the hose material are decisivehere.Similar to a steel breaker tire,Putzmeister PX hoses have a car-cass of tire inserted that is madeout of resistive steel wire which isusually enweaved four times. Therubber mix used here is an especi-ally wear-resistant natural rubber.

In addition the nozzles of the hosesare hardened.

Original hose lines often have ajoint or edge at the transition sectionbetween the hose and the connect-ion point. This means greater wearand increases the danger of block-ages.

Putzmeister delivery hoses arestripped out on the inside wall. Theresult then is a seamless transitionbetween the connections.

If you add up all these propertiesyou get an excellent hose systemwith especially little wear and lessservice life.

Low-priced, economical and safe

Hoses and hose accessories

Putzmeister concrete delivery andend hoses consist of especiallywear-resistant natural rubber and a4 x steel wire insert as carcass oftire. These are ideal for concretepumps to convey abrasive andchemical material but also for mortar and floor screed work.

These delivery hoses are designedfor an operating pressure of 85 bar.The test pressure in its latest stateis 170 bar – i.e. twice the safety.

The hose bushes are hardenedagainst wear up to 63 RockwellHRC. The hoses are usually stripp-ed out. They then attain a seam-less transition between the hoseconnection piece and the hose.This reduces the wear and extendsthe service life.

On request we will also supply youwith special hoses with LOBA certi-ficate which are resistant againstmost different chemicals such as,for example, benzene.

Hose and end-hose closure

Putzmeister hose and end hoseclosures stop the concrete dripp-ing out when the hoses or boomare moved. This is especiallyimportant in water protection areas.

Reduction set

Hoses are often too thick or hard tohandle for tight formwork. In thiscase you ought to use thePutzmeister reduction set.

You should use it with the standardplastic dewatering pipes DN 100(Fig. 36).

With this the concrete can no long-er segregate during the free fall fordeep formwork. In addition thepolystyrene lining of the casing isnot damaged.

Fall brake with zoom nozzle

The plastic Putzmeister fall brakestops the concrete dripping out ofthe end hose during slow concret-ing and dirtying the men at thepoint of placement. It is ideal forplacing smaller amounts of con-crete, e.g. for backfilling work.

This Putzmeister solution is saferthan the solution with steel elbowsthat is often used, and only hasone wear part.

Pneumatic end hose closure

With this accessory you can pneu-matically close the delivery line atthe end of the boom. Ideal for operations such as underwaterconcreting or when no concrete isallowed to drop out of the endhose during pumping.

Cleaning plugs

These are especially suitable forstationary delivery lines for concreteand industrial pumps with largepipe elbows. These cleaning plugsare especially used when there isdanger of material deposits.

They can be inserted into the deliv-ery line both manually and by acleaning plug sluice. The dischargecan then ensue via such a sluice ora catching basket (Fig. 40 and 53).There is a highly-flexible rubberplug for delivery line diameters of125 mm and this can also be usedfor tight radius elbows.

Catching baskets

Catching baskets are especiallyimportant for pressure cleaning.They catch the sponge balls whichare ”shot“ out of the delivery lineunder high pressure. Then only thecleaning water or the residue con-crete emerges out at the end.

Cleaning connection and cleaning lid

Air or water is to be blown via thecleaning connection into the lineafter you have inserted 2 to 3 sponge balls. The cleaning port isconnected up at the end of thedelivery line or at a special clean-ing valve.

Connect up the cleaning lid for thewater connection to a cleaningopening or a T-piece.

Reduction and transition pieces

When you want to connect two different delivery line systems ordiameters, you require reductionand transition pieces.

Putzmeister reductions are offeredin three different classes of quality:

■ Reductions made out of steel:either made of drawn out materi-al, seam-less and with optimisedwall thickness distribution, or ST 52, canted off, and weldedwith a V longitudinal seam,standard wall thickness 6.3 mm

■ Operational or inductively hardened one-layer reductions:Hardness on the inside up to 63 Rockwell HRC for especiallystressed reductions such asbehind the pressure pipe

■ Two-layer reductions in connection with 2-layer pipes

Cleaning accessories

Putzmeister offers a large palette ofcleaning accessories for cleaningdelivery lines.

Sponge balls and plugs

Sponge balls and plugs are madeout of tough sponge rubber qualitythat is especially resistant to tearing.

With correct use you can easilywash 20 to 40 times. And withsponge cleaning plugs even more!They can be used for suction andpressure cleaning and are attain-able for all delivery line diametersof 25 - 250 mm, and in specialcases even larger.

Sponge cleaning plugs are some-what more expensive but cleanbetter due to the greater cleaningsurface.

Cube made out of foamed material

These are a cheaper alternative toplastic balls and are available inedge lengths of 200 - 250 mm fordelivery line diameters of 100 - 200 mm.

Wall-thickness measuring unit

With this favourably-priced andeasy to operate ultrasound measur-ing unit you can measure the wallthickness of your pipelines.

Pipeline attachment

Usually round steel shackles areused to attach pipelines. With H-profiles these can be attached to walls.

Safe attachment of the concreteline is especially essential for highpressure lines to prevent the deliv-ery line knocking.

Pressure gauge

Putzmeister pressure gauges readthe concrete pressure at any pointof the delivery line. They are attain-able for all pressure ranges. Theyare especially of advantage forlocalising blockages in the pipelineor to calculate the pressure ratioinside the pipeline.

The pressure gauges are connect-ed up with T-pieces which can simply be installed in the pipeline.

Comfortable concrete placingwith rotary distributors

Rotary distributors are used toplace concrete within small radii onfloors.

Putzmeister offers a manifold pro-gramme of rotary distributors.Please ask for the separatebrochure.

Shut-off valves and direction valves

Putzmeister shut-off valves anddirection valves are based onPutzmeister's experience with manyworld records in delivery such asfor example at the Post OfficeTower, Frankfurt/Main, at theGothard Tunnel in Spain and atRiva del Garda in Italy.

They have, however, been furtherdeveloped and supplemented sothat the requirements of a modernpipeline system are taken intoaccount. Absolutely leak-proof shut-off valves are the basic prerequisitefor this here.

Hardened seal rings take over thesealing function for the high press-ure versions. On the other hand, O-rings seal these right up to thehousing. Operating pressures up to250 bar are hereby mastered.

The following shut-off valves andtransfer tube types are used:

Flat shut-off valves GVM

GVM (gate valve manual) flat shut-off valves are simple shut-off valves.They are opened and closed manu-ally, i.e. with a hammer. They areattainable both for minimum press-ure requirements up to 20 bar(shut-off valve for formwork) as wellas for high pressure applicationsup to 200 bar.

Flat shut-off valves GVH

GVH (gate valve hydraulic) flatshut-off valves are operatedhydraulically. They are pressure-resistant and leak-proof up to 200bar. They shut off reliably. Concretecan no longer bleed, respectivelyflows backwards.

They can be optionally equippedwith electric end switches. Thesemake it possible to electrically con-trol the shut-off valve, resp. anacknowledgement of the signal tothe remote control which indicatesthe present working state of thevalve.

Hydraulic transfer tube DVH

These transfer tubes are used whenfor example two delivery lines haveto be fed. They also make it easy toclose a cleaning connection so asto clean the delivery line.

Advantage: Whilst concrete is stillbeing conveyed through one deliv-ery line, the other can be cleaned.As the line moves when this trans-fer tube is pushed, it is only usuallyused for the delivery line system SK.

Rotary distributor RVH

With the rotary distributor concretecan be distributed to two or moredelivery lines. Via a rotatable S-pipeseveral pipelines can be fed withconcrete. On request, any positioncan be reached automatically andprecisely stopped by a metre. RVHrotary distributors are equippedwith a remote control.For each of the outlets a separatesignal light lights up when the re-spective connection link is made.

All rotary distributors are equippedwith a central lubrication. Therespective control (SPS) as well asthe electric equipment must beindividually determined in any caseat the works.

GVM 2/2 20 bar, e.g. for formwork closures

Plug sluices

There has been a problem here inthe past especially in the ChemicalIndustry and in mines when theplug line parts needed for cleaninghave to be dismounted.

This complicated procedure meanta great deal of work and timeespecially when cleaning had to becarried out frequently. The cleaningline can also be cleaned whilstconveying through the plug sluicewith pump stop.

The so-called plug insert sluicecan be connected directly behindthe pump. This brings the plug intothe delivery line by an hydraulicvalve system. This plug can thenbe taken out again through a plugdischarge sluice at the end of thedelivery line. Under certain condit-ions a catching basket can bemounted for the plugs.

Hydraulic units

PM hydraulic units produce thenecessary oil pressure to switchthe hydraulic shut-off valves anddirection valves. They generate anoil pressure of up to 315 bar. Just 150 bar is enough for minimumload.

Hydraulic units with hand pump

Hydraulic units with hand pumpsare ideal for pipeline diameters upto 125 mm. They can be suppliedwith or without accumulator.

Hydraulic units with electric drive

PM hydraulic units are equippedwith electro drive and manual con-trol valve and on request also withelectro valves. In this case an elec-tric control cabinet is necessary. A remote control can also beconnected to this. Hydraulic unitswith a higher performance can alsobe supplied.

Hydraulic connection of theshut-off valves to a concretepump

The shut-off valves can be connect-ed to the concrete pump via theagitator hydraulic circuit which isusually protected by fuse with220 bar. Further possibilities canbe individually determined accord-ing to the concrete pump.

Forked pipe

It can be useful to use forked pipeswhen using different types of hy-draulic shut-off valves to distributemedia (Fig. 8) to several lines.

Remote controls

A cable remote control is attainablefor direction valves and shut-offvalves with end switches. It has aswitch for position "On and Off" aswell as two signal lamps (red andgreen) which indicate the positionof the valve. Further versions areavailable on request.
