This call has implica ons for both the Church - which desperately needs such a new evangeliza on - and the culture, which has been deeply dechris anized and is also desperately in need of this new evangeliza on.

These two aspects of this one call are intricately connected. Only the Church can carry out this evangelical mis-sion because she is the Body of Christ on the earth. She is called by the Lord to carry on His redemp ve mission and con nue His presence on this earth as a universal sign and “sacrament.” She is the missionary agent and –in the words of the fathers of the second Va can Council in the Catholic Church- the seed of the kingdom of God.

To accomplish her mission she must be “Holy”, set aside for and configured to Christ. She must therefore, in every age and me, be renewed, reformed and reposi oned in order to faithfully carry on the task of “pu ng out into the deep” waters of

the world into which she is s ll sent on mission.

Many Catholic Chris ans do not know what the Church actually teaches and have instead embraced what some have called a “cafeteria Catholicism”- choosing what parts of their faith they will follow. Finally, in the worst cases, a prac cal atheism is abounding wherein those bearing the tle Chris an are professing the Creed but confining its influence only to Sunday.

Fr. Mark’s Message Jim Murphy’s Message DISCIPLE

Dear CCC Community,

I am very excited to announce that the Catholic Charisma c Center, in collabora on with the Companions of the Cross, is introducing a 1-Year Cer-ficate in Chris an Discipleship called

“DISCIPLE.” This program is designed to offer par cipants basic forma on that will help them follow Jesus as one of His disciples.

There are many people who follow Jesus but only from a dis-tance. Other Chris ans make Jesus the center of their lives and walk with Him daily as fully commi ed disciples. Jesus wants us to be more than followers; He wants us to be His disciples.

Everyone is welcome to sign up for “DISCIPLE.”

Par cipants can begin the program at any me; there is not spe-cific star ng date. There are 12 requirements that must be ful-filled during the course of about one year. They are as follows:

1. Daily prayer 2. Read the New Testament 3. Read the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catho-

lic Church 4. Frequent the Sacraments 5. A end Faith in the Fire Retreat 6. Par cipate in some form of Chris an Small Group for

at least 7 weeks 7. Complete Discipleship 7 week series 8. Complete Founda ons 7 week series 9. A end 1 Catholic retreat 10. A end 1 Catholic conference 11. Consecra on to Jesus through Mary 12. Complete Virtus Training

“Passports,” are available for those who are making a DISCIPLE year. Ministry leaders will stamp passports when a require-ment is met. Those who complete the above requirements will receive a DISCIPLE cer ficate.

Is the Lord calling you to be one of His disciples? Why not begin by give Him a year of your life?

For more informa on about DISCIPLE please contact Pat Allison.

May the Lord bless you in 2014!

WHAT THE SPIRIT IS SAYING Dear brothers and sisters; Peace be with you.

As I travel to various faith communi-es throughout the world, it is exci ng

to watch how the Holy Spirit is leading the servants of God. It is interes ng to note that in spite of differences of lan-guage, culture, and geography, The Lord seems to be bringing the same word to many places:

GO FORTH: Many communi es in the world are really being “encouraged” by the Holy Spirit to take new ini a ves in evan-geliza on. One theme that comes up o en is a group of people standing in a bright light. But outside of the light, lying in the shadows are many men and women, seemingly in a coma. The people in the circle of light walk out into the shadows and touch the “shadow people.” Those who appeared dead now are re-stored to life and accompany the first person back into the circle of light. Pre y soon, another person walks out of the circle of light into the shadows, and the process is repeated.

There seems to be a par cular urgency to reach out to young people.

Many groups are responding to these urges of the Spirit by star ng new Life in the Spirit Seminars and launching new pro-grams of evangeliza on.

INTERCESSION: It seems that all over the globe, men and wom-en are being called to an intense ministry of intercession. The sense seems to be that God wants His people to know that the power comes from Him and not themselves. All sorts of new efforts of evangeliza on are being set up including prayer lines (telephone and internet) as well as vigils before the Blessed Sac-rament. People who are entering into this area are repor ng some amazing results.

PERSECUTION: Many people sense that there is a growing hos-lity in the world towards the things of God. Some of my

friends in other countries are actually experiencing hos le a acks, because of their faith. The Spirit seems to be warning us to make The Lord our founda on and rely on Him.

TRANSFORMATION: The Spirit is working in a profound way in the lives of believers in order to strengthen and purify them. God is at work to correct us, to challenges us, and to heal and transform us. God is transforming us so that we may be er serve Him in the days ahead.

These are themes that keep coming up all over the world. We would be wise to reflect and respond to what the Spirit is say-ing.

I look very forward to being with all of you in February.

May The Spirit enlighten and strengthen us all. Amen Your brother and servant Jim Murphy www.veracruzcm.com Eagles Wing Retreat Center * March 14th - 16th

DIVINE INTIMACY FORMATION…THE CALL TO HOLINESS…THE INTERIOR LIFE

“Jesus is known through dialogue with Him”, Pope Francis, Va can UTube.

“Divine In macy” is an ac ve contempla ve forma on that responds to the urgings of the Popes to go deeper, to commune in in macy with God, to listen, to receive in the silence and to respond, for the proclama on of the Gospel in a world that is distancing itself from God. The forma on’s goal is to build the interior life. The Popes have called this deeper step: “New Evangeliza on”. Forma on is an absolute necessity because true evangeliza on comes from one’s own in macy with God; the more one knows Christ, the be er one can speak of Him. Being fully alive is to know

oneself and to know God, in in macy. Jesus was in mate with His Apostles, He wants to be in mate with us as well. “Contempla ve prayer is love, silence, listening, and being in the presence of God. For interior prayer one needs me, resolve, and above all a pure heart. It is the humble, poor devo on of a creature that drops all masks, believes in love, and seeks God from the heart. Interior prayer is o en called the prayer of the heart and contempla on.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church) STATISTICS: There are three forma ons going on simultaneously, at the C.C.C.: Beginners with Contempla ve Founda-

onal pillars of Silence, Solitude, Prayer and Penance. Intermediate, the deep spirituality of Teresa de Avila. Interces-sors Forma on which includes Spiritual Warfare. New for 2014: St. Igna us of Loyola spiritual excercises. First group outside the C.C.C. Beginners’ group at San Juan Diego. Also, this year we welcomed a new Aid, a former forma on stu-dent. Since the Fall of 2012, 30 adults have completed the Beginners Forma on (six months dura on); 4 completed the Intermediate sessions (4 months dura on); in addi on, 10 new adults are presently enrolled in the Intermediate For-

ma on; 13 new adults are enrolled in the Beginners Forma on and 4 are enrolled in the Intercessory Forma on. SAMPLE TESTIMONIES: A.J-P.: Divine In macy has provided another branch on this path of union with our Lord Jesus Christ. One of my most treasured is in how to listen a en vely to His word, by simply being s ll and quiet. (Beginners) Sergio G.: “God help me to be truly holy. Not so that everyone see you in me, But I might see you in every-one.” (Beginners) Tere M.: As I grew up, I could not stand being in a place without hearing a sound. My younger sister had died at age 2. My parents were so devas-tated that my siblings and I were told not to make any noises. As I grew up, I could not stand being in a place without hearing a sound. Un l I heard Norma’s tes mony of silence I decided to give it a try. I have experienced that when I have been in complete silence my connec on with God, with the Holy Spirit has been so real. There have been mes that I have had a thought or a word that comes to me in the middle of the silence. There have been mes that it is just the silence, a silence that has given me the feeling of being connected to God...my God, that I am learning to get to know. My God that loves me uncondi onally. My God that created me even before I was born and that has given me so many blessings, but I did not know, un l I have been learning to have a Divine In macy connec on with Him. Thank you Norma!!!! (Beginners) Diana T.: I want to share with everyone that Divine In macy Forma on has led me to discover who I am in Jesus Christ. Medita ng on the scrip-tures and listening to Him in silent prayer has given me pa ence in my daily life. D. I. Forma on helped me know God as my Father and best friend. (Intermediate) Rose V.: Norma, I should not have missed the 2nd Mansion class, for it is exactly where I stand and figh ng to move ahead. A er connec ng with posi veness and understanding what God was telling me, suddenly I began doub ng myself thinking “that could not be happening; God is not really talking to me. I was talking to myself”. But now I know that God is talking and guiding me deeper. I seem to understand be er a er reading this sec on…whew! The 7 mansions are the path I am walking. As I enter each mansion, I enter into deeper in macy with Him. AWESOME! I have to say that everything I have done, read and experienced up to now, through Divine In macy, prepared me for the Paul Retreat. (Intermediate) Nora C.: I used to have a ques on: How do you know when is God talking to you and is not just your thoughts or the enemy who is pu ng this in your mind? I had reached a point in my life where I wasn't sure because the enemy is such an expert liar, cunning, deceiving, that I had started to have "doubts" about my daily walk. I started to pray to know how to "know" if it was God speaking or not. A er a short me of bringing it to my prayer I read on the Sunday bulle n at C.C.C. there was this Forma on going on called Divine In macy Forma on. A total different way of allowing the Lord to melts us molds us, fill us and use us! I thank God for the opportunity He is giving me to be in this forma on, I thank God for Norma, I thank God for the Catholic Charisma c Center and the priests for allowing such Forma on to take place. Is a "wild ride", I have learned the meaning of: "Awe of God" and all thanks to God that has been gracious to me by hearing my prayers! I wanted to know if He was talking to me! Is the best thing it has happened in my life! Love you Norma. (Intermediate) Jane W.: My me spent in Divine In macy Forma on has given me the tools to develop a close in mate rela onship with our Lord. By having this closeness I am able to interact with The Lord throughout my day to day life. As I prayed for these words, the Lord gave me Ps.124:8 “Our help is in the name of Yahweh, who made heaven and earth”. (Intercession)

Inner Healing Prayer Ministry

PAGE 5 JANUARY 2014

Elijah House schools are founded on principles reflected in Malachi 4:5-6 and Matthew 17:11. We call God’s people to restore the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, and to restore all things. How do our schools accomplish this? We train students in the biblical principles and tools for the healing and transfor-mation of the inner man that God has given our Elijah House teachers. Students learn to trace bad fruit in people’s lives to unforgiveness, bitterness, negative life decisions and other strongholds in the heart. They learn to listen to the Holy Spirit and follow His lead as they minister. The ultimate goal is not only to transform individuals, but also to enable them to reconcile with others as well as with God.

Healing hearts… Elijah House … Transforming Lives

For as long as I can remember, I have always been the type of person who when anything negative or hurtful hap-pened to me, I would bottle it up and push those feelings away deep down inside. I was never one for sharing, yet along admitting to myself or others, how I really felt. I was known for my “I’m fine” answer when asked how I was doing. I constantly pushed others away. In doing so, I slowly built up some pretty strong walls around me thinking this would protect me from any further hurt. A few years back, I began to acknowledge the existence of these walls and kept saying I would work on breaking them down … somehow. I was naïve enough to believe that this was something I could do on my own. After all, I was the one that built the walls, right? Well, it didn’t take long to see I could not do it alone, as it was too overwhelming a task. So I gave up on tearing them down, and continued on with what I knew and the walls continued to grow. One day, I reached my breaking point where I could no longer keep my feelings tucked away. A few friends sug-gested that I sign up for the Elijah House course that was to begin soon at the Center. Having no idea what to expect, I started the course cautiously. However, by the end I started to open up and the walls began to come down. Throughout the course I learned a lot about myself and why I was the way that I was. I realized that over the years I had unknowingly allowed my woundedness to define who I was. I understood that all those unresolved feelings inside I had never dealt with were all open wounds that I had tried to just cover up. Through Elijah House, I was able to let the divine physician in and heal many of those wounds. Doing it alone was impossible, but with God all things are possible! I had to learn to forgive and let go in order for healing to take place. I not only understood myself better, but also understood everyone else is wounded as well, just in different ways. I have now completed the Elijah House course twice. Am I completely healed? Not quite, but I have made strong progress towards healing. I am now able to see the areas I need to work on and have found I am starting to love myself more. Many of the walls have come down and I am not afraid as I once was to allow myself to feel the feelings as they surface. It is all part of the healing process. We are all wounded in so many ways, including ways we are not aware of. So, if you are tired of hurting, tired of bottling it all up, or just plain tired, give Elijah House a try. Through it you will find peace and understanding of body, mind and spirit. At times it will be difficult, but as Fr Mark has preached, a surgeon must first wound us in order to heal us. Jesus is that surgeon. Sign up and make your appointment for the next Elijah House orientation. Call Margaret Colunga 713-236-9977 If you need a referral, just tell them I sent you. Alison Weber

Servant Leaders Serving in T.E.A.M Ministry

“Calling the Twelve to him, he sent them out two by two and gave them authority over evil spirits.” Mark 6:7

Jesus’ earthly ministry revolved around building a team of close followers, and modeling team ministry. Jesus called and then sent his disciples out two by two. In the Jesus on Leadership Forma on offered by the Apostles in Mission (AIM) Ministry, servant leaders learn that leadership is a team sport. Servant leaders team with others to serve.

In Father David Bergeron’s homily in September 2013, Fr. David emphasized that we all have a call to leadership through our bap sm. The purpose of our call to leadership is to lead people to Jesus Christ. Father David also listed a few quali es needed for leadership in our faith se ng.

We lead others to Jesus by being a bridge maker who bridges the gap like Pope Francis who bridges the gap between the rich and the poor, and like Pope John Paul II who was a bridge between na ons. To become a leader for God, we build bridges with God (ver cal), and with others (horizontal), this is the perfect bridge which is two dimen-sional – the Cross. This is the bridge that we need to present to people. (1 Cor 1:23: “We preach Christ crucified, who is the power and the wisdom of God.”)

Another quality of being a great leader is to show a friendly presence/demeanor. A friendly smile can help to lead people to Jesus. We can introduce Jesus as our best friend forever, and invite people to this friendship too .

Jesus is the best friend we can ever have. He himself tells us that he is our friend. As our leader, Jesus does not call us servants or slaves. (Jn 15:15: “ I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father.”)

Jesus is our best friend forever because he gave His life for us. He loved us un l the end, forever. (Jn 15:13: “No one has greater love than this, to lay down life for one’s friend.”) Jesus is our leader, our bridge maker, our friend, and the one who calls us to be leaders a er him.

The components of T.E.A.M. ministry are Togetherness, Empowerment, Accountability and Mentoring.

Togetherness - The great football coach of the Green Bay Packers and devoted Catholic Vince Lombardi once said, “Individual com-mitment to a group effort- that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civiliza on work." So the first char-acteris c of a team is the sense that, we are in this together, bound together by a commitment to reach a shared goal. Team minis-try flourishes when there is a sense of belonging to the team that benefits from our God given talents.

Some examples of togetherness at the Center is when we come together to pray as community in all night Eucharis c Adora on, pray and serve one another or working as a community spreading the Light and Love of Jesus Christ. A good example of this is when members come together as one body like the C.R.O.S.S. Ministry when it serves the homeless and needy at Loaves and Fishes & M4NL. Empowerment – Just as Jesus empowered his disciples, servant leaders are also to empower members on their team to reach a shared goal. As servant leaders we encourage every team member to be involved and contribute to the team’s goal. In the Evangeliza on Team, each member is involved and has an assignment during the retreats which enables the team to proclaim the Good News of Jesus. Each member will be em-powered to lead in various commi ees by using their charisms.

Accountability is the glue/bond that keeps team members working together toward the same goal. In team ministry, you make yourself accountable to the other members of the team. (Romans 14:12)

Mentoring – A mentor is a guide and a model for others. Jesus used foot washing to model servanthood. (John 13:3-5) The Breaking Bread Homeless Ministries takes up Jesus’ towel of servanthood to meet the needs of others. As we work with others in teams, we have opportuni es to teach and model the gospel by following Jesus’ example. At the Catholic Charisma c Center, we are blessed to have so many opportuni es to minister and serve in T.E.A.M. ministry. e. g. @ www.missions4newlife.org

Everyone is called to become a leader by leading others to Jesus Christ through servant leadership. As we work with others in teams, we have opportuni es to teach and model the gospel by following Jesus’ example.

ONE Ministry is now entering its 4th year at the Catholic Charismatic Center. Throughout this time we have grown and evolved as a ministry and as individuals. We have recently elected new leadership and have implemented a 4-Pillar focus:

1. Spirituality – Empowered by the Holy Spirit to grow spiritually in a relationship with GOD the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

2. Fellowship/Social – Keeping us Christ centered through Faith and Fellowship. 3. Education – Providing opportunities to grow in our relationship with God and enrich our Catholic faith

through educational programs, lectures, and discussions. 4. Service – Serving God by serving the church and the community.

In the coming year we are planning retreats, times of prayer, praise and worship, a study on apologetics and other topics on our Catholic faith. There will also be various volunteer opportunities both around the church, and within the community such as working at the Food Bank, and helping Breaking Bread Ministries. We look forward to times of just getting out and having fun together as a community of believers. ONE Ministry is open to college aged through those in their 40’s. We are not a singles ministry. We welcome those who are single, married, have children, etc. We are a ministry without walls that is open and led by the Holy Spirit. D.I.G. TEEN FAITH FORMATION

Our youth nights consist of valuable scripture based life lessons, prayer, small group discussions, fun ice breakers, and teens in community. We also incorporate a homework table and tutoring into our Wednesday nights because we realize teens do better when they are in a positive environment and tutored by their peers. We also encourage the teens to participate in community service, church activities and fundraisers for their benefit.

The D.I.G. leaders are looking forward to 2014 and a new DIG Youth Ministry. Change is always good to begin the year and to keep improving and growing. Not just in size but in our faith in God. We have some exciting things com-ing up this year for the teens to be a part of, such as a beach retreat, parent/teen nights, family growth, Theology of the Body Teens, Steubenville Youth Conference in Louisiana, FIF Teens, and much more.

Our theme for the year is "Going Deeper". It means we will focus even more on scripture, breaking it down and un-raveling its deep meaning. This past year we have taken that "baby step" toward getting to know the basics and now it’s time for them to expand in their faith. It is a part of their spiritual growth. This is a big step, but it is also a mature step for the teens. Too many teens are going through their Catholic walk not understanding the walk they are on. Or maybe they can answer biblical questions, but still don't fully comprehend its meaning. We no longer want this for our teens! We want to see the spiritual maturity that is needed in order to continue to move forward in truly loving the Catholic faith. We continue to pray for a change in our society and especially a change in all youth who are lost in the temptation of this world. Join us in standing firm against the enemy! May God bless you and your families this coming year.

Our group meets Wednesdays from 7-9pm in the Upper Room at the CCC. Teens 13 and up are welcome.

We are always looking for new leaders! Contact Melva Suski for more information

A little about D.I.G.: Disciples In Growth, is a youth minis-try in which we strive to instruct teens to become leaders of our catholic church and our community. We are unique in that we are not a “required” youth group, meaning our teen par-ticipants come to youth night by their own will not because it is required for confirmation.

Wake Up Call On Evangelization

In a document titled “Evangelii Gaudium” (The Joy of the Gospel), the pope offers a much more complete look at his approach to the church’s primary mission of evangelization in the modern world.

ANDREA TORNIELLI VATICAN CITY

“There is a need for Christians who help show God's mercy and tenderness towards every crea-ture. We all know that today’s humanity is facing a deep crisis. This is why the new evangelisation must necessarily use the language of mercy, which is more about gestures and attitudes than words. At the same time, it calls on faithful to have the courage to go against the tide and con-vert from idolatry to the one and true God.” Eve-ry person who is baptised is a Christ bearer as the ancient fathers used to say. Anyone who has met Christ, like the Samaritan woman at the well, cannot keep this experience to themselves … All of us should ask ourselves if the people we meet can feel the warmth of our faith and see the joy of our encounter with Christ!”
