  • are universal

The following patterns were inspired by the Islamic art at the Met. The exhibit reminded me of my family, my parents house and the images and motifs that surrounded me throughout my childhood. Because of my parents eclectic taste I was exposed to the world of Islamic art including the beautiful Turkish tiles, which line my mothers bathroom. I appreciate the intricacy and craftsmanship of the designs and their ability to convey and evoke feeling without literal storytelling. Upon thinking about my roots and heritage

and my own artwork I can see the ancient traditions of Islamic art reflected in my style and taste. My drawings are of complicated, controlled free-hand geometry and no figures, faces, or realistic representation. It makes me think that our intrinsic artistic inclinations are generations old and our creativity is a product of history and culture as well as exposure and experimentation.

  • and habitual

  • is elegant

The following poster designs are based on reactions to the exhibit, Punk: Chaos to Couture at the Met. It was refreshing to walk through the punk fashion and see the progression, development and change in style over time. It makes you think of art, fashion, photography, culture, and music all in the same realm. In the beginning the clothes on display were beautifully grungy; the torn, ripped, re-sewn, safety pinned and other d.i.y. handmade elements gave each article character and attitude. The collections on display toward

the end though had lost that personal quality as punk style was commercialized and exploited. As an installation the manikins were standardized, but the successful parts were the Met walls painted black and the tall screens with disjointed video and audio. It opened my eyes and ears with lots of stimulation.
