Pumps and Turbines
As mentioned before the pumps add energy to the liquid while the
turbines take energy. The energy equation of flowing system( as shown in
the fig.) contains both of them will be:

- Section 1 and 2 will be before and after pump or turbine
respectively.
- EP, and ET= energy added by pump.
Ep. = weight of fluid added (W) X hp,. units= N. m
hp= head added by pump, units= N. m/N
- ET= energy removed by turbine.
ET = weight of fluid removed(W) X ht,. units= N. m
hT= head removed by turbine, units= N. m/N
the power of pump or turbine in watt units is:
