Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a national level campaign by the Government of India, covering4041 statutory towns to clean the streets, roads and infrastructure of the country. This campaignwas officially launched on 2 October 2014 at Rajghat,New Delhi, where Prime Minister NarendraModi himself wielded broom and cleaned a road. The campaign is India’s biggest ever cleanlinessdrive and 3 million government employees and schools and colleges students of India partici-pated in this event. The mission was started by Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, nominating nine famous personalities for this campaign, and they take up the challenge andnominate nine more people and so on(like the branching of a tree). It has been carried forwardsince then with famous people from all walks of life joining it.

Objectives-This campaign aims to accomplish the vision of ‘Clean India’ by 2 October 2019,150th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. The fund sharing between the Central Government and theState Government/ Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) is 75%:25%(90% : 10% for North Eastern andspecial category states) The campaign was described as “beyond politics” and “inspired bypatriotism”. 1. To eliminate open defecation 2. Conversion of insanitary toilets to pour flush toilets3. To Eradicate manual scavenging 4. 100% collection and scientific processing/disposal re-use/recycle of Municipal Solid Waste 5.To bring about a behavioural change in people regardinghealthy sanitation practices 6. To generate awareness among the citizens about sanitation and itslinkages with public health 7.To Strengthen urban local bodies to design, execute and operatesystems 8.To create enabling environment for private sector participation in Capital Expenditureand Operation & Maintenance (O&M) costs.

For your eyes only...“Swachh Bharat Cam-

paign logo is not just a logo, through it Gandhiji is watchingus and we all should clean In-dia. I am not claiming that thenewly elected government isdoing everything. Be it temples, mosques, gurudwaras or anyplace, we must take efforts toclean our surroundings. Clean-liness is not only the responsi-bility of the ‘safaai kaamgar’, itis the responsibility of 125 croreIndians. If Indians can reach

Mars at a cheap cost, can we not clean our neighborhoods?”“I do not make any claim that the government, which has been elected to power just now, has

done everything.”Modi said,”even today from this stage, I greet and salute all the governments—central, state and municipal, social organizations which have worked in this direction, whetherthey are leaders from Sarvodaya or workers of Seva Dal. I launch this programme with theirblessings.” He said that today’s campaign should not be seen as a mere photo opportunity.Headded.

“Everybody before us has worked for it. Under Mahatma Gandhi’s leadership, the Congresshad led it...Who was successful, who was not. Let us not get into it who has done it, who has not.We should work responsibly,” he said.

While ruing that 60 percent of populace in rural areas still defecate in open, the Prime Ministersaid the stigma of women lacking toilet facilities has to be removed. Modi said that he hasrequested the corporates to evolve plans under corporate social responsibility to build cleantoilets specially for girl students in schools.

India, he said, should learn from foreign countries, where people are disciplined and do notlitter in public places. He said though it is a difficult task, it can be achieved and for that people willhave to change their habits.

“If we make it a public movement, we can make our country being counted as one among thecleanest nations,” he said.

The countrymen launched a movement and achieved freedom realizing one of the slogansof Father of the nation, there is now a need to fulfil his other vision of ‘clean India’.

“I am seeing that Gandhi is looking through these specs that whether we have made Indiaclean or not, what we have done and what we have done,” he said. He said if the surroundingsare kept clean, then people will remain healthy and such losses can be minimised.

Modi’s 15 quotes on‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’

1. It is our social responsibility as citizens of India to help fulfil Gandhiji’s vision of Clean India,by his 150th birth anniversary in 2019.

2. I am seeing that Gandhi is looking through these specs that whether we have made Indiaclean or not, what we have done and what we have done.

3. Devote 100 hours every year towards the cause of cleanliness.4. Cleaning up the country cannot be the sole responsibility of sweepers. Do citizens have no

role in this? We have to change this mindset.5. Though it is a difficult task, it can be achieved and for that people will have to change their habits.6. It takes time to change established mindset. It is a difficult task. But we have five years. This

is not about Modi... Modi is only one of its 1.2 billion people... This is a people’s task.7. Sanitation should not be seen as a political tool, but should only be connected to patriotism

(rashtrabhakti) and commitment to public health.8. I am not talking politics...this is beyond politics. This is inspired my patriotism not politics.

We do not have to do with an eye on politics...I say that with a clean heart... If we paint this againwith a brush of politics, we will again do a disservice to mother India.

9. All the governments in this country have made one or the other effort to do this work.Several political, social and cultural organizations have made efforts in this direction. I greet allthose, who have worked.

10. I have requested the corporates to evolve plans under corporate social responsibility tobuild clean toilets specially for girl students in schools. India should learn from foreign countries, where people are disciplined and do not litter in public places.

11. I have invited nine people and asked them to come to public places and work towards aClean India. I ask them to invite 9 more people too.

12. I have invited Mridula Sinha ji, Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Ambani, Ramdev, Shashi Tharoor,Kamal Haasan, Priyabka Chopra, Salman Khan, team of Tarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashma

13. If people of India can reach Mars with minimal expenditure, why can they not keep theirstreets and colonies clean.

14. If we make it a public movement, we can make our country being counted as one amongthe cleanest nations.

15. According to the World Health Organization, an average of Rs. 6500 per person was lostin India due to lack of cleanliness and hygiene. Swachh Bharat would make a significant impacton public health and in safeguarding income of the poor, ultimately contributing to the nationaleconomy.

Mobile App To Be Launched ToCurb Corruption

Mumbai: Maharashtra ACB will soonbe just a click away as the anti-corrup-tion watchdog is preparing its own mobileapplication, aimed at bringing itself morecloser to people.

“We are working on to launch a mo-bile application shortly. It is under prepa-ration,” Maharashtra ACB Director Gen-eral Pravin Dixit said.

“Through this mobile application, avictim can submit video, audio and digitalfiles with just a click,” the IPS officer said.

The purpose of having a mobile ap-plication is that the common people, es-pecially tech-savvy folks, can have easy

access to the Maha ACB, which has so far this year arrested as many as1,661 corrupt government officials and their mediators this year, a 117 percent surge as compared to the previous year, the ACB says.

“It (the application) will hopefully reduce the gap significantly betweenthe victims and the ACB officials,” he added.

Riding high on its successful traps so far, the ACB is leaving no stoneunturned to be able to reach to common man by aptly tapping the innovatingand revolving technology, said another officer.

The application, if launched will have information about the ACB’s pres-ently existing Toll Free number - 1064, its Face Book account link, namesand numbers of some officers among others.

“In the current networked society, if the way of functioning of a publicserving office is not upgraded with the technology, one cannot serve thepublic effectively,” said the officer on condition of anonymity as he is notauthorized to speak to media.

Earlier, Maharashtra ACB stood first in the country by starting to postphotographs of the arrested accused and their case details on Face Book,a widely used social networking site.

Apart from tapping technology, the ACB sleuths are putting their bestefforts to mark their presence at gathering points.

“Our sleuths are also visiting large gatherings to promote the facilitiesoffered to the citizens by the ACB. We have also deployed our men at theplaces known for corrupt dealings to curb the menace,” Dixit said.

“We are making all efforts to ensure that the amount a complainant isrequired to pay to bribe during our trap is refunded to them from the govern-ment treasury on top priority. The government has initiated special steps torefund the money without much delay,” he said.

Best wishes to the officer...!

Gulzar Bezaar !January(MR)Why the government is not utilizing the services of Natrajan Gulzar, in

fact who is known as a ‘rocket officer’ in the officers fraternity for his speedy action.Hedeserves the right posting after returning from Harvard, but that did not happened. Is theofficer got bezaar and moving for the central deputation? Hopefully he will move to thedepartment of personnel and training. ‘Kya hoga’ if officer like him will move....!

She is SwatiJanuary(MR)The lady

RightChoice

J a n u a r y ( M R ) T h eformer IAS officer G.KishanRao is the new ExecutiveChairman of the TelanganaState Tourism DevelopmentCorporation.He is the Spe-cial Officer of Shilparamam

and is the right choice for the above post. Goingby his working style the Corporation will reach toits goals in coming days. The officer will be also theCEO of Yadagirigutta Temple Development Au-thority.

No more ‘Kharcha-Pani’January(MR)Now no more ‘kharcha-pani’ during

pass port verification.Yes the Police department havetaken the measures to curb the corruption to makepassport verification free without paying any tips.TheJt.Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) Y.NagiReddy is working on this aspect quite seriously.Theofficer said that applicants can contact the senior of-ficers if any cop demands money for conducting theverification. He also cleared that the applicant can lodge

the compliant if any of the officer blocks the passport by sending falseverification remarks. It will be re-verified by another officer and the report willbe sent to the RPO.This step has to be appreciated,as many applicantswere apprehensive about the verification officers report and were forced topay money for ensuring it in a proper way.

New Delhi :As the coal auctions drawnear with several trade unions in govern-ment-owned Coal India Limited (CIL) upsetover the privatisation drive, the union gov-ernment said that it had no proposal atpresent to provide fresh coal linkages to pri-vate companies for new and upcomingprojects. “At present, there is no proposal toprovide fresh coal linkages to private com-panies for new and upcoming projects,” Coaland Power Minister Piyush Goyal said dur-

ing Question Hour in Rajya Sabha. Further, coal may also be made availablefor power plants of 4,660 MW subject to availability after consumption of thesame by the identified plants of 78,000 MW capacity.

Until now, the union government has issued 177 Letters of Assurance toseveral power plants including independent power producers covering108,000 MW. Out of this, the authority had approved signing fuel supplyagreements (FSAs) in respect of 78,000 MW plants which have been com-missioned or are likely to be commissioned by March 31, 2015.

“The power projects of the remaining capacity of 30,000 MW are yet tobe authorised for signing of FSAs. Keeping in view the negative coal balancereported by subsidiary coal companies of CIL, new linkages or Letter ofAssurance (LoA) have not been granted to any of the sectors since 2010,”Goyal said. He also said coal linkages or LoAs issued to the power plantsare converted into long-term fuel supply agreements post achieving pre-scribed milestones as laid down by the government. “The consumers underthe FSA are supplied coal at the price notified by Coal India Ltd (CIL) fromtime to time. This applies to the regulated sectors,” he said. CIL charges aprice which is about 35 per cent higher than the notified price for non-regulated sectors including steel, cement and sponge iron. “This is becausethe prices of end products of coal-consuming industries in the non-regu-lated sector are market-driven,” Goyal said.

Now, Book a Visit to Taj Mahal OnlineAGRA:Online booking of tickets to the Taj Mahal will begin from tomorrow, according to Archaeological Survey

of India (ASI) officials. Arrangements for barcode screening and broadband connection have been made at theentrance gates. An official announcement is likely to be made in New Delhi today. A website for the Taj Mahal andHumayun’s Tomb has been launched by the IRCTC and ASI. Tourists can book tickets at asi.irctc.co.in. Tourismindustry in Agra has welcomed the introduction of e-ticketing facility, which many hoteliers said would curb resellingand black marketting of tickets. “Tourists waste a lot of time waiting at the ticket windows. Later, the ASI would beable to fix a daily number of visitors to reduce human load on the 17th-century monument of love,” said SurendraSharma, president of the Braj Mandal Heritage Conservation Society. More than six million tourists visit Taj Mahalevery year. Entry for children below 15 years is free. The monument has a weekly off day on Friday. Meanwhile, tourism organisations in the city have opposed Agra Development Authority’s move to increase the toll collectedfrom visitors at the Taj.  The ADA has sent a proposal to the state government to revise the rates from present Rs.750to Rs.1000 for foreign tourists and Rs.20 toRs.50 for Indians.  The ASI share is Rs.250 from the foreigners and Rs.10from the Indians. The tourism industry leaders feel any upward revision of ticket rates would reduce the number oftourist arrivals which already is showing a negative trend.
