Council has also committed $4000 to undertake minor works to bring the trail up to Level 3 Australian Bush Walking Trail Standard and to carry out weed spraying and slashing. Council will install a pedestrian counter and review the road section's usage in two years. Council and the Hoddle Mountain Trail Management Group will work to develop a Memorandum of Understanding to establish management arrangements for the HMT. The full trail links the Great Southern Rail Trail with the Hoddle Ranges Walking Trail, creating a 17 kilometre return journey from Fish Creek, out through spectacular scenery overlooking Wilson’s Promontory and Corner Inlet. This is a great outcome for Fish Creek and for the ongoing development of a recreational asset that provides enjoyment to locals and visitors, and clear benefits to the individuals and the community. Your ongoing engagement and support has been the key to this success, so thank you and, NOW there is much work to be done, maintaining and developing the trail to ensure that it remains an asset with an assured future in our community. Nautilus Theatre ProjectNautilus Theatre Project, based in Fish Creek, is preparing a double-bill presentation for the upcoming 2018 Fish Creek Tea Cosy Festival. The performance will begin with a premiere presentation of a one-act play, The Art of Fencing.’ The second part of the bill is another first time performance – This Playful Life –(version 1).

The Art of Fencing is a short play that explores the relationship of two neighbors over a 12-month period. Over four seasons the audience learns about the long running dispute over a fence between two properties, one owned by Mrs Sherman (played by Christine Skicko) and the other owned by Mr Peabody (played by author Chris Dickins). The play mixes comedy and drama to explore secrets they both hold and Mrs Sherman’s patient endeavors to get Mr Peabody to overcome his obsessions and bitterness to become open once more to people and the world. Chris is a well-established Australian author who has worked in professional theatre over many years. The Art of Fencing is his first return to performance in some years.

This Playful Life is a collection of theatrical anecdotes, selected scenes from Chris’ large catalogue of works, readings from a series of novels and several pieces of original music. ‘I have been telling these stories many times over the years,’ Chris said recently. ‘I began my love of theatre in childhood and despite many colossal catastrophes that love has remained. The double-bill promises a night of entertainment, fun, laughter, surprises and an insight into the working life of an Australian playwright.Suitable for Family audiences.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?It was suggested by Rhonda Mayo that I should include, each month, a space dedicated to our young folk, who have left Fishy to make it in the Big wide world – Where are they now. This month we find SARAH WYLIE (daughter of Kelly (Prom View nursery)

Sarah Wylie, who went to our kinder and primary school, often seen helping out @ Prom View Nursery, Gelliondale forestry nursery @ Yarram, the prom, and in NT managing a 'McCafe' , has just opened her own business in Noosa QLD. "Acai Nation Noosa Superfood Bar"-selling acai bowls, great locally roasted coffee (Kai coffee) and raw cakes. All fresh, gluten free and vegan. Acai is a berry - like blueberry, only with more antioxidants. Look them (Sarah & Frankie) up @acainationnoosa on instagram or face book and drop in if your up that way. 18 Hastings Street Noosa - in Bay village.

Prom View Nursery, Gallery & Outdoor Centre" has been in town

for 18 years, not only offering most of your plant/pot and fertilizer needs, but a huge range of wet weather gear, umbrellas and boots for the up coming winter, throw rugs, candles for when the power goes out, essential oils, camp goods - sleeping bags and heaps of puzzles and games to keep one entertained. opened every day except for Tuesdays.

THE FISH CREEK FOOTBALL AND NETBALL CLUB has been lucky enough to have been awarded a grant to build a new netball court. After many years of trouble with ground water leaking up through the cracks and many attempts to fix drainage, the dangerous tennis net post holes and a creek that can swell well beyond its boundaries during the season. Tenders for the court were sent out, one has been accepted and the works will hopefully start mid season - weather permitting, and may be finished come finals? Go Fishy!!

FISH CREEK COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT GROUP

It was a great turn out for the last meeting. It was very pleasing to see so many Fish Creek community members attending. The executive are greatly encouraged by such interest and are determined to get our house in order and get things moving. Over 30 people attended along with 3 councillors, where a vote to keep Quarry Road open was unanimously supported. Also, we have put to Council a submission calling for support for Fish Creek Community Development Group to run an education/information program regarding the provision of sewerage in Fish Creek as a precursor to holding a survey of residents. South Gippsland Water have indicated a commitment to work with SGSC and the FCCDG and assist with the background information required and the answering of community questions and concerns, particularly in the area of cost to households. SGW have already gone through a costing exercise and have are in the process of re-evaluating the costing. FCCDG ask for assistance with the survey as well as the education/information program. As Council noted in its Municipal Domestic Wastewater Management Plan 2016-2020, there is a real need for sewerage in Fish Creek. Residents have been talking to Council and SGW for years now and with the progress of the town, sewerage is becoming a much greater pressing need. Certainly, traders in the town feel that the lack of sewerage is a brake on progress in the town centre. More news on this when it comes to hand. The next meeting is Monday May 14 at 5.30pm in the Oberon Room, Fish Creek Hotel. Please come, we value your input to do what’s right and what’s best for our wonderful little town. Michael Lester (President) 0421 209 878.

FISH CREEK COMMUNITY GARDEN UPDATE

The children and their teachers come to the Community Garden monthly and benefit from

learning about growing healthy food. This week they planted snow pea seed in little pots made

from newspaper, labelled with their names. They will learn to nurture their pea plants and

observe the seeds germinating and growing into plants at kinder. They also harvested purple

cabbage, carrots, herbs etc. and took them back to kinder to make coleslaw for lunch!

We are thrilled to announce that our application to the South Gippsland Shire's Small

Grants Program has been successful! We will receive $1,000 for a solar-powered

pressure pump to make watering the Community Garden in summer so much easier for

our volunteers. We will supplement this grant with our fund-raising to piggyback a solar

lighting kit onto the solar panel installed for the pump. This will give us some LED lights for our

shed; the first use of the lighting will be for "Tea Trees Talking", an installation devised

by Anda Banikos & friends, sited in our Railway Shed and open daily during the Tea Cosy

Festival. May dates in the Community Garden will be the 9th and 24th; come & join us for

gardening, morning tea and a natter. New members welcome.
