8:00 Focus on Public Outreach Activities/ProgramsHelena Ferguson, Erika Shofner, and Meg Gail-lard - South Carolina Archaeology Public Out-reach Division

Public outreach programs are the bread and butter ofpublic archaeology. While many are supported by

government agencies or universities, the South Caro-lina Archaeology Public Outreach Division (SCAPOD)is a non-profit organization that offers a variety of pub-lic programming. We will discuss our current outreachprograms, share our future plans for SCAPOD, andanswer questions about the 501(c)3 public archae-ology experience.

9:00 Web Tools (Facebook, Twitter, web pres-ence, e-newsletters)Irina T. Sorset - Florida Public Archaeology Net-work & University of West FloridaNicolas R. Laracuente - Kentucky ArchaeologicalSurvey & University of Kentucky

This section of the forum begins with a short presenta-tion on the mechanics and theory of social mediatechnologies, specifically Facebook and Twitter. Howare these technologies used to achieve both personaland institutional goals? How can they enhance publicoutreach and professional collaboration? This presen-tation will then facilitate a discussion of social mediaimplementation and use in extant and future pro-jects. Attendees are welcome to bring their web-enabled devices for hands-on demonstrations.

10:00 Assessments of Outreach ProgramsCassandra Rae Harper Florida Public Archae-ology Network and University of South FloridaA. Gwynn Henderson - Kentucky ArchaeologicalSurvey

Assessment should not be an after-thought, it shouldbe a first-thought. Begin each public archaeology pro-

gram by asking: "What are our educational goals?"and "How will we know that we've met them?". We willoffer a working definition of assessment, discuss thereasons to do it, and share some examples of assess-ing public programming. Then we'll open the floor to adiscussion that covers any aspect of assessment.

11:00 Creating a Public Interest Group?Mary L. Kwas SEAC Public Outreach GrantCommittee Chair

The forum will conclude with an open discussion on thefuture of a "public archaeology interest group." Do par-ticipants want to organize a formal "interest group" or"committee" within SEAC? How can we facilitate oppor-tunities to network, provide support, and share ideasand problems throughout the year? What topics mightbe addressed at future SEACs? Is there sufficient inter-est to define a mission and set goals for the near fu-ture? Come offer your opinions and ideas.
