Accelerating the Journey The journey of an idea from concept to market is uneven and indirect. There are many

obstacles and possible entry and exit points and support for business innovation,

especially for SMEs is often unconnected. The range of players in innovation, with

multiple organisations and initiatives creates a landscape that is often fragmented and

difficult for SMEs to navigate.

Pearsall Tatham McGrath Pty Ltd is an advisory and services firm that is dedicated to

assisting SMEs in the technology space to understand the commercialisation journey. By

providing a range of services to clients who contract our services, we will accelerate the

journey, linking our services with other sources of help for innovative businesses.

Using our accumulated experience and knowledge, we will support and develop our

clients and ensure that we provide a stimulating environment where clients can work

effectively with us to achieve commercial success. Our services will be fast, flexible and

focussed on the individual needs of all or our clients. We will only accept engagements

from a limited number of clients so that each client receives our fullest attention and we

will establish a series of benchmarks and impact measures to ensure that we remain

highly effective and deliver value for money.

The Innovation Challenge Innovation is central to economic growth in developed countries such as Australia.

Innovation is also vital to competition. In today’s global market, Australia’s competitive

advantage effectively depends on managing the knowledge that we have as a country,

rapidly commercialising new technologies and focussing on higher value-added goods and

services.

The need for transition to a more sustainable economy is creating global market

opportunities for entirely new solutions.

Innovation however is not easy. Investment in innovation in Australia is generally at a

later and lower level than is desirable for the highest growth. There are many reasons for

this including;

The timing and levels of return on investment are uncertain.

It can be hard to build a sound business case.

Small companies usually struggle to find finance for their innovations.

Small businesses also usually struggle to find strategic partners to help bring their

innovations to market.

New technology in a market can disrupt existing supply chains and business

models, requiring innovators to identify and form new partnerships. This is difficult

for earlier stage companies. The help available to innovative SMEs is often

fragmented and complex.

Pearsall Tatham McGrath will work with clients to help overcome the barriers to innova-

tion and commercialisation by working with supply chain partners, research institutions,

government, distribution partners, funders and investors on behalf of our clients.

On behalf of our clients, we will build and maintain relationships with investors and

funders both in Australia and overseas, to present well prepared investment opportunities.

Prospective clients are offered an initial meeting, free of charge, to explore their commer-

cialisation journey needs. We will listen, analyse the opportunity and offer initial advice

where we can. Should a prospective client wish to engage our services, we will present a

detailed proposal for the provision of our professional services, outlining our proposed

methodology and key project milestones.

We work on the basis of a retained monthly fee, a success fee based on the achievement

of agreed milestones and in some cases, we will agree to take up to 50% of our success

fees in equity.
