FromEDITORS DESK

Dear NIPM Professionals,

Hope you have enjoyed reading the first edition of NIPM Kerala Chapter e-magazine for the period July – Sep 2016. We are now releasing the second e-magazine for the quarter Oct-Dec 2016. We are expecting continuous support and guidance from each one of you for the journey ahead. Your suggestions and feedback will be very valuable and will help in continuous improvement in contents and outlook.

As you know, HRCON 2017 will be organized in June 2017 with the theme “Happiness @ Work - Realigning Workforce and Workplace'”. This theme was found most suiting to the present work place environment at all industry verticals. Happiness is derived definitely as a net result of a good working environment, Organization culture, engaged Employees, job satisfaction….the list is exhaustive.

In order for to live a happy life we must be concerned with doing virtuous, moral and meaningful things while utilizing our personal talents and skills. However, we also know that happiness is unstable over a long period of time, as all of us at one time or the other in normal life has to experience ups and downs. Many things are beyond our control, but it is our ability to manage critical crisis situations, thus managing to come out unhurt and with positive energy.

While happiness is not fundamentally rooted in obtaining sensual pleasures and money, those factors can influence the well- being of an individual at the workplace. Extensive research has revealed that freedom at a workplace and autonomy has the most effect on the employee's levels of happiness as well as gaining knowledge and ability to influence one's individual working hours. Companies with higher than average employee happiness exhibit better financial performance and customer satisfaction. Thus, it is beneficial for companies to create and maintain positive work environments and leadership that will contribute to the happiness of their employees.

In the above context we find the theme of HRCON 2017, most appropriate and suiting the present needs of Organizations. As the applicability is not limited to HR fraternity alone, other Departments also can gain lots of insights.

We request the cooperation and support from all of you. Please extend support with advertisements&sponsorships and also nominate maximum number of Employees for the program.

Happy reading.

Message from the CHAIRMAN

Dear Seniors & Colleagues,

The New Year has brought in a new set of challenges to the business and its stake holders in view of the impact to the economy caused by the aftereffects of demonitisation. While we are not here to debate on the pros and cons of the decision we have to gear up to face the challenges as it affects every walk of life. Our businesses as well as the HR fraternity in particular have the resilience to rise up to the occasion.

As you know the activities of NIPM (KC) are going on in full swing and a vibrant EC team is consolidating their efforts for the upcoming programs. Our plans include organizing HRCON 2017 in the month of June 2017. The EC team have met exclusively few times to plan and decide on the program, speakers etc. As you know, the main theme will be “Happiness @ Work - Realigning Workforce and Workplace”. This theme was adopted after long deliberations and we found it most suiting to the present industry environment. The term happiness is always an important factor which determines our future including health, working and personal conditions. All sub themes are also decided and the process of finalizing Speakers and circulating the first teaser of the program is on the process of finalization. You can expect communication from our side soon regarding this program.

We will be hosting our Executive committee meetings at our group locations like Palakkad and Kottayam very soon. This will enable us to strengthen our group activities at locations other than the chapter location at Kochi. We understand Alleppey group is also keen to host one EC at the picturesque locations of Alappuzha. Our Team is geared up to bring in more programs which can help build up knowledge levels of the upcoming HR/IR professionals. The 10 day long program of Labor law Certification got over recently with good participation from the industry. We are also planning 2nd batch of 10 day long short term course on HR certification skills by April 2017.

We look forward to the active support and cooperation from all our Members for making the HRCON 2017 a very grand success. Your contribution is expected by way of sponsorships, advertisements and also nomination of employees from your respective Organisations. As the focus of the theme is not limited to HR function alone, we expect good response from our colleagues from all industry verticals. We will get back to you soon with more details of HRCON 2017. The success of a program of this magnitude depends on the contribution from each member and their active involvement.

Message from the Hon. Secretary

Being the office bearers of one of the best chapters of NIPM (www.nipm.in) in our country, the Executive committee of The Kerala chapter has been continuing to focus on adding value to its Members and the HR fraternity in general during Oct-Dec 2016. The overwhelming interest and support measured in terms of attendance to the Workshops, Seminars and Knowledge sharing session continue to motivate the EC members of the chapter.

This Quarter saw our Kozhikode and Kottayam Chapters becoming livelier with participation of new members mostly from the GenY HR professionals. It was heartening to see the use of Technology tools to build communities (Whatsapp leading the list).

The chapter reached out to those parts of the district which are considered remote from the city Centre during this quarter. One result of such reaching out was the conduction a day long workshop on Performance Management for professionals in and around Perumbavoor, jointly hosted by our institutional member, Mar Thoma College of Management and Technology.

The InfoPark group facilitated a one day workshop on Essentials of Employment laws for Effective People Management - reinforcing the need to connect supervisors in the IT / ITES Industry to the nuances of employment laws which have gained significance in the recent past. The jointly organised NIPM-XIME HR Conclave also attracted delegates from Service, BFSI, Telecom and Retail besides manufacturing.

The initial framing up thoughts for the second bi-annual HR conclave (#HRConKer17) have been set in motion. The broad objective of the conclave will be to bring in updates from past 2 yrs and also provide a crystal ball gaze for the next two years with these bi-annual conclaves. The program committee of #HRConKer17 has decided to focus on keeping 'Realigning Workforce and Workplace' as a key element of the themes of future conclaves. Readers will recollect that 'Make in India - Realigning Workforce and Workplace was the theme of the first ever HR Conclave by our chapter in August 2015.

The theme for #HRConKer17 planned in June 2017 will be 'Happiness @ Work - Realigning Workforce and Workplace'.

The chapter's efforts on using Social Media as a platform to disseminate information and also build community was the highlight as the first ever Social Media workshop organised by NIPM HQ at KOLKATA. I got a chance to showcase our chapter's efforts and results by our use of technology and Internet when I was invited to facilitate a session for the nominated delegates from chapters across the country during the month of November. This lead to the creation of an NIPM Social Media Cell - this cell consists of about 25 people from various chapters of NIPM who will play the content creation and moderation role for NIPM's Social media presence on the Internet.

Delighted at this opportunity to serve the HR fraternity and looking forward to your continued support and guidance as we move to another exciting year - 2017. See you all at #HRConKer17.
