Project Shalom Uganda, formally Sha-

see a Uganda that has the interests of
Children at heart. The charity also of-
fers comfort to destitute widows to help
them find hope & the meaning of life in
their loneliness.
We are committed to the care of Chil-
dren at risk to see that they attain the
basic necessities of life such as educa-
tion, shelter, food, clothing, care and
love in order to achieve their full poten-
tial.
Our empathy is derived from the book of
James 1:27
This organization is comprised of
two boards of Trustees, one in the
U.K and the other in UGANDA that
oversee the smooth running of the
project.
We are a registered UK charity

The organization has a personnel that
is highly motivated and equipped
with the necessary skills to make a
positive contribution in the life of the
Ugandan Child. The Centre gives
young people immediate care to
help them recover from any trauma
they have suffered and to regain
control of their lives and help give
them a normal childhood as well as
help them grow to become responsi-
ble people. Many of the orphans are
brought in traumatised and malnour-
ished and sometimes with AIDS,
malaria, yellow fever and various
infections so Shalom comes in to
give medical care, education and
training.
“Who we are at Project Shalom” News Letter: Date June 2013
“Word from the Director & special thanks”
Welcome to our first newsletter and we hope it will be insightful. Project
Shalom was founded in 2002 by Juliet Nasuuna to transform the lives of
orphans and vulnerable children. Juliet herself was orphaned, but was later
fostered by Christian relatives and this experience inspired her to start this
project to care for other orphans & vulnerable children. This project is fully
supported by people who have a heart for children to ensure that they attain
the best out of life. With all humility special thanks to all our UK support-
ers: to mention but a few: Marlow Community Church, Church of the Liv-
ing God (CLOG), schools plus the entire Church and the UK community
who continue to open their doors when we knock on them for support. May
God richly bless you all. We embrace anyone who wants to be a part of this
transformation.
Truly: God’s everlasting
arms will sustain us!

Capacity Building workshops/ seminars In our drive to empower our partnership, we
initiated & implemented capacity building
strategies, which we saw as suitable to bene-
fit all foster parents & staff members, by
holding “healthy parenting” Workshops.
The very first of this kind took place last
year in 2012 & participants included all staff
members & prospective identified foster par-
ents at that time. Workshops are held in
three phases following the months
of April, August and finally November
each year & certificates are awarded
upon completion. For these work-
shops, facilitators with different par-
enting skills & educational knowledge
are sourced mainly from the
“Education for Transformation”
scheme which has a YWAM back-
ground to ensure that quality skills &
biblical based knowledge are offered to
us and our foster parents. Topics cov-
ered include: “Child growth & devel-
opment”, “The Father heart of God”
and “World view & the value of chil-
dren”. On 3rd-5th April 2013, a similar
workshop took place for the same pur-
pose as before to another group of se-
lected foster parents under this theme.
At the end of these workshop sessions,
one parent remarked that
“These workshops have been an eye
opener”. She added “This has helped
me to understand the difference be-
tween child parenting and child up-
bringing and the need to respect our
children”. With this, we are glad to
know that we are breaking ground &
working towards having the foster
parents informed and educated.
Community Fostering Program– Social work
This program is being empowered and
developed in order to continue settling
more children into foster homes. Espe-
cially for those children currently resid-
ing at Shalom house, who have received
thorough psychological therapy having
suffered different traumas ranging from
the death of their parents, abuse, neglect
& other factors.
Since the start of this programme, out of
the 24 resident children, 6 children have
so far been placed back into foster fam-
ilies. During this process, we prepare
them psychologically
to ensure the transition of changing from the
Shalom house care environment into the
community. This helps them to cope with
the dynamics of the world outside of Shalom
and the feeling of being part of a
smaller family, yet becoming part of a
wider community which helps them to
relate well with others in the communi-
ty & prepares them to become more
independent as they develop into adult-
hood.
Out of the 63 beneficiaries who receive
support from Shalom, we currently offer
a home environment to 14 children plus
meals to 4 young adults who reside out-
side the house but who are still acquir-
ing educational skills in institutions of
higher educational learning plus univer-
sity dissertations and internships.
Therefore a total of 18 are still being fed
at Shalom house. The reasons for us to
keep doing this include; the need to re-
habilitate traumatized children, provide
shelter & protection to children who
have no
place to stay as a result of abandon-
ment by family relatives, in cases of
death of biological parents or close
responsible relatives. At Shalom
house, we have capable house par-
ents who give appropriate care &
love to these children & help to
guide them in aspects that are cen-
tral to their wellbeing. The home
offers a real homely environment
whereby children learn different
home chores ranging from cleanli-
ness, making their beds & any rele-
vant skills as seen suitable.

Welfare/ Intercession
2 Chronicles 7:14 says “if my peo-
ple who are called by my name
shall humble themselves & pray &
seek my face & turn from their
wicked ways, then shall I hear from
heaven, forgive their sins,&
heal their land...” Project
Shalom Uganda is a Christian
charity. We believe the bible
as God’s inspired word & our
final authority in all our ac-
tivities. We believe that God
holds the past, present & fu-
ture of Shalom, so we seek
God on a weekly basis
through prayers at the start of
each week. All staff commit
to this valuable time as we
seek God’s guidance. We
aspire to grow in the knowledge of
God’s word and his manifold wis-
dom to strengthen our faith amidst
all the trials & challenges we face
in all our services to him.
We believe that God speaks in various ways
& so we seek him through intercessory pray-
ers, praise & worship & sometimes with fast-
ing. We have taken a further
We have taken a further step to reach out to
the community we serve by teaching families
to know God as their creator,
provider & our present help in times
of need. We strongly believe that we
exist to worship God in all that we
do.
Community foster parents trusts in God
Our Children’s World In the month of April, we initiated a writ-
ing competition that saw the involvement
and participation of the home children.
The articles ranged from a number of
themes such at Shalom we value Educa-
tion, the significance of prayer & the fight
against HIV/AIDS among others. Howev-
er after careful scrutiny, we had to come
up with the best. Here is the poem by
Leah Kyomuhendo.
Politics
“Oh dear politicians, our leaders; There is need
to look beyond yourselves and attend to nation-
al issues. To address rampant youth unemploy-
ment, high illiteracy levels, child sacrifice,
child labor, early marriages and the existence
of street children not forgetting child soldering.
We need to build a unified platform and fight
against these injustices in Uganda”.
Leah : The prize winner
“The Eden of Shalom” In 2012 we acquired a 3 acre piece of land
through the generosity of our
friends Laura & Adrienne. We
are extremely grateful and thank
you for responding to our need.
We are also grateful to God who
granted us our desire to have land
in the vicinity of Jinja. Since
Uganda is mainly an agricultural
country, we started to cultivate the
land & we grow a staple supply of
grains, potatoes, bananas, fruits
&vegetables to improve the chil-
dren’s diet. The Children also
benefit by learning gardening
skills to prepare them for a pro-
ductive adulthood . For most of
the children,
It’s a terrific experience to participate in the gardening,
they have so much fun plus the joy of owning what
they grow and they can pick fresh food as they like.
Children & staff on lunch break at the farm– From clearing
season, planting weeding & nearing harvest time.. On the ex-
treme right is our grains left with 3 weeks to harvest time.

Our Vision is
“The transformation of orphans, vulnerable children and other dis-
possessed young people into responsible, upright and God loving
citizens through Christ’s practical love and care.”
Mission:
“To foster and care for orphans and vulnerable children.”
Core values:
“Each beneficiary in our care is of inestimable worth, being created
in the image of God; they are always loved, nurtured and protected.
This means:
Their needs for feeding, clothing, health, education, career guid-
ance, moral, social and spiritual development are at the forefront
of all we do.
We are protective of their safety and guard against inappropriate
behaviour that is harmful or deprives children from enjoying
their rights.
Our values and ethos are Christian and derived from the Bible.
This means:
We look to Jesus in all matters of conduct, speech and attitude of
heart.
We model Him in our dealings with those we care for and one
another.
We seek to educate children to follow our example and to be
Christ’s disciples.
We do what we say and say what we do.
We value and encourage grace, truth, faith, righteousness, jus-
tice, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, thankful-
ness, self-control, humility and service.

Way forward & future for Project Shalom
We would like to share our hopes for the near fu-
ture.
Continuous promotion tour by the Director
We hope to celebrate our 10th Anniversary
this year (subject to availability of resources.)
We hope to continue integrating more chil-
dren into well trained foster families in order
to help them achieve the best out of life.
Long Term:
Farm development: We look at self-reliance in
terms of reduced donor dependence. Therefore
our intention is to develop:
The land on a wider scale by not only grow-
ing produce for consumption, but also for in-
come generation by adding animal husbandry
& poultry projects on the land.
The land will also serve as a model scheme
for foster parents to acquire modern skills for
subsistent farming.
Research shows that factors such as HIV/AIDS,
maternal deaths & poverty are the leading causes
of child- headed households plus escalating rates
in orphans & vulnerable children in Uganda and
Africa as a whole.
Therefore as Project Shalom, we
believe that the wellbeing and de-
velopment of any nation starts
with children who need care and
love to enable them to grow into
responsible citizens. We believe
that God’s everlasting arms will
sustain us.
Amen!
