PlantSpace P&ID is a power-
ful application for creation of
piping and instrumentation
diagrams, combining high-productivity
drafting with intelligent review and
reporting capabilities. The software
brings substantial savings in the time and
money expended for schematic drawing
and report generation. PlantSpace P&ID
will help you create intelligent P&IDs that
serve the complete life cycle of the plant.
PlantSpace P&ID is fully compatible
with PlantSpace Design Series 3D model-
ing software. It integrates seamlessly
with most commercial databases and
spreadsheets for Windows® 95 and
Windows NT®. PlantSpace P&ID drawings
can provide a graphical window into plant
data for use in plant operations and main-
tenance activities and retrofits. The
software integrates easily with standard
maintenance and process control sys-
tems. Additionally, it supports easy
conformance of existing P&IDs in many
formats to intelligent PlantSpace P&IDs.
PlantSpace P&ID is based on
Jacobus’ powerful JSpace™ object-orient-
ed technology and MicroStation. It runs
completely within MicroStation, enhanc-
ing its graphical user environment for
unmatched productivity in P&ID
schematic creation. PlantSpace P&ID is
easily configured to meet enterprise or
client standards.
Rapid, Intelligent Drafting
Using MicroStation’s AccuDraw®
technology, PlantSpace P&ID greatly
enhances drafting productivity. You can
rapidly place P&ID symbols without cum-
bersome set-up of file specifications or
database parameters. The software over-
comes many of the limitations of
traditional P&ID creation.
PlantSpace P&ID is an extremely
user-friendly P&ID application, letting you
draw intelligent P&IDs with minimal
input. PlantSpace P&ID then creates an
intelligent object model from the informa-
tion on your drawing. The software reads
and deduces large amounts of informa-
tion from a relatively small amount of
data. It determines, for instance, the size
of a reducer based on the size of compo-
nents on either side.
Simply place graphical symbols and
tags from pull-down menus and toolbox-
es that contain all symbol placement and
modification capabilities. The software

![Page 2: pspid](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022082604/55173e3c49795938228b48ca/html5/thumbnails/2.jpg)
ically, utilizing your custom-defined
project standards.
PlantSpace P&ID automatically han-
dles symbol orientation and line breaks,
reducing the number
of steps necessary to
place all inline P&ID
components. Inline
components automat-
ically inherit the
graphical attributes
of the pipe in which
they are placed.
When modifying
components, you
simply slide compo-
nents along a line for
fast and easy reloca-
tion. Component removal automatically
initiates repair of the line in which it
was embedded.
You can create and place predefined
collections of components or assemblies.
You can rapidly create new assemblies
by modifying old ones. And you can
assign logical collections of
components for convenient
group manipulations.
The Value of Object-
Based Schematics
PlantSpace P&ID draw-
ings derive information from
the data that you place in the
drawing. Unique object tech-
nology provides intelligent
checking for data validity and
for consistent engineering
design practices. The software automati-
cally reports conflicting flow, unconnected
lines, and other inconsistencies.
PlantSpace P&ID also checks for
valid data input and inconsistencies
between different P&ID sheets. You can
define checking methods according to
your company or project specifications.
The object technology in PlantSpace
provides capabilities for powerful integra-
tion with your existing automation
tools—accessed through the P&ID draw-
ing. You can define relationships that
allow you to visually reference design,
engineering, construction, start-up, oper-
ations, and maintenance information.
These definitions are based on the busi-
ness rules that you set for each specific
purpose. PlantSpace P&ID makes it easy
to select and prioritize the information
according to the need.
For example, during construction you
might view—through the P&ID—compo-
nents purchased, ordered, delivered,
installed, and tested. This information
PlantSpace P&ID is a
powerful application
for creation of piping
and instrumentation
diagrams, combining
high-productivity
drafting with intelli-
gent review and
reporting capabilities.
As you place objects in the intelligent P&ID, they automaticallyinherit appropriate attributes from other objects in the line.Simply clicking on an object brings up its attribute information.
With PlantSpace P&ID’s easy integration, you can accessrelated information, such as a scanned image from a vendorcatalog, from within the intelligent P&ID.
![Page 3: pspid](https://reader036.vdocuments.mx/reader036/viewer/2022082604/55173e3c49795938228b48ca/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
can be ordered or grouped in
any logical sequence.
Links to project schedule
and procurement databases
and spreadsheets, plant mod-
els, and other information are
enabled through a standard
ODBC (Open Database
Connectivity) interface. A host
of new query, review, checking,
and reporting capabilities are
possible through PlantSpace
P&ID’s powerful object linking.
Component Query and Review
PlantSpace P&ID offers flexible
query and review capabilities, letting you
access all pertinent component informa-
tion by simply selecting the component in
the P&ID.
The software displays a list of the
piping lines, valves, instruments, instru-
ment loops, and equipment in the P&ID,
from which you can select and highlight
components or component groups in the
drawing. As you scroll through the list,
PlantSpace P&ID can automatically zoom
in on each item for clear identification.
PlantSpace P&ID provides simulta-
neous review of multiple P&IDs in a
project. Lines or other groups of compo-
nents that cross drawing boundaries are
interactively displayed.
Integrated Reporting Tools
You can create an array of reports,
including Line Lists, Equipment Lists,
Valve Lists, and more. PlantSpace P&ID
provides a predefined set of sample
reports, which are formatted and printed
through Microsoft Access.
Object integration lets you export
reports that combine P&ID information
and other information, such as vendor
data, procurement, and project manage-
ment—for each unique business need.
The software will additionally export
information, from single or multiple
P&IDs, to any ODBC-compliant database
or spreadsheet. You can customize
reports to fit the reporting tool of your
choice: Microsoft Access, dBASE, FoxPro,
Oracle, and other leading databases.
Flexibility in Controlling
Project Standards
PlantSpace offers control of stan-
dards at the component level. The
software provides a standard P&ID sym-
bol library and a full complement of
capabilities for creating your own sym-
bols and libraries. You can also import
Utilize an array of reporting tools—any ODBC-compliantsoftware—with PlantSpace P&ID. Here the software gener-ates a report using Microsoft Access, based on data storedin dBASE IV format.

AutoCAD drawings and utilize AutoCAD
block libraries in the P&ID, if desired.
You can globally edit the graphical
attribute symbology for entire P&IDs or
groups of drawings at once using a stan-
dard ASCII text editor. This is extremely
helpful for fast and effective implementa-
tion of PlantSpace P&ID.
A PlantSpace P&ID English DIN (ED)
module is available which supports the
DIN (Deutsche Industrie Norm) symbol
set. This module includes all current func-
tionality provided in the standard
PlantSpace P&ID product, with the
addition of standard DIN symbols.
Drawing functionality is based on the
metric system, while the intelligent pro-
cessing of the P&IDs corresponds to the
implemented standards.
Utilizing Legacy Drawings
PlantSpace P&ID enables you to
bring existing P&ID drawings into confor-
mance with your company or project
standards with a robust set of standards-
conformance utilities. Intelligent object
models can then be easily created from
the information on the drawings. You can
utilize existing MicroStation
files from previous projects or
import drawings created by
other application software, on
other platforms.
Verifying drafting consis-
tency of P&ID components
with project standards is easy
with PlantSpace P&ID.
Verification is accomplished
automatically by the software, comparing
drawing components to project drafting
standards. You simply select the
Verification feature to validate confor-
mance of the P&ID components on a
component type or drawing basis.
Making the Most of Your P&IDs
PlantSpace P&ID makes the P&ID
the most important document for manag-
ing the operations and maintenance of
plants. And it increases the usefulness of
P&IDs in the engineering, procurement,
and construction phases.
For engineering/design verification,
you can compare the PlantSpace Design
Series 3D model from within PlantSpace
P&ID to ensure that all components in
the P&ID also reside in the 3D model.
With PlantSpace Integration Tools, your
model can contain 3D data from multiple
plant systems.
Links between your P&ID and other
programs can facilitate more than query,
review, and reporting from within
PlantSpace P&ID. For example, you can
make external drawing modifications
from outside PlantSpace P&ID. The soft-
ware provides Microsoft Access examples
to demonstrate how changes made in
external databases can automatically
update the P&ID. You can also request
visual display of the selected component
in the P&ID from the external database.
In addition, you can link P&ID com-
ponents to external applications for
display of scanned images, movie play-
back, detail drawing editing, and more.
Component definitions are cre-ated and modified througheasy-to-use dialog boxes, ensuring uniform conformanceto project standards.
Modify components on a one-by-one basis or globally,by element type or cell name.
