Psalms Series / Lesson #2. Fingerprints of Glory. Week of July 9-15 Focus passage: Psalm 19 Lesson Overview- Some people describe religion as humankind’s search to find God. It would appear to some that God is hiding, just waiting for someone to stumble onto Him. In reality, scripture reveals a God who is constantly making Himself known. Within creation, and scripture revelation, God tells about himself so we can know Him and worship Him! 1. Warm-Up. If someone were to see your clothes closet, what would they learn about your habits, desires, character and values? 2. Study the Word (30 Minutes) Psalm 19:1, 7-11 Share something that impacted you from the message by Jed from Sunday. What was it that directly seemed to apply to your current life circumstances? Read Psalm 19:1-14 twice. In the first reading note any insights or questions that come to your mind. In the second reading underline the words that describe who God is and what He is like. Worship Him with praise for who He is to you. Psalm 19:1, 7-11 1“ The heavens proclaim the glory of God, and the skies display his craftsmanship . 7 The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. 8 The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commandments of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living. 9 Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The Laws of the lord are true, each one is fair. 10 They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey dripping from the comb. 11 They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them.” A. What is God revealing about Himself in Nature according to v. 1-6? Describe a place in nature that causes you to see God’s power and glory and why? B. Verses 7-11 describe how God reveals himself in scripture. Examine the words David uses to refer to God’s word. What does each word imply? “instructions” “decrees” “commandments” “laws” C. What benefits make God’s words sweeter than honey (7-11)? Do you have reason to doubt any of these benefits can be for you? How has God’s Word been a benefit to you? How has God’s word revealed a need for you to repent and ask for God’s cleansing (12-14)? For more information on FCC Community Groups Contact First Christian Church www.firstchristaincb.org, or email [email protected], 712-328-2606 3. Apply the Lesson to Life Review the scripture that you just read and studied. Ask yourself these questions to help discover what the Spirit wants you to put into practice in your own life. D. What did you learn about God? How do you respond? E. What did you learn about the benefits of opening your heart to God’s Word? What change must God work in you so your life can reflect his glory? F. Tell someone else what you are learning about God. Daily reading S- Psalm 19 M- Psalm 8 T- Psalm 63 W- Psalm 65 Th- Psalm 96 F- Psalm 104 Sat- Psalm 119:17-32
