We use the present simple

to say that something happens all the time or repeatedly (again and again)

to talk about things in general

to talk about something that is always true

to say how often we do things

The earth goes round the sun

But the third person (she/he/it) adds an -s:

She works in London.

Present simple

The present simple tense is the base form of the verb :

We use the present continuous

for something that is happening at the moment of speaking

for something which we think is temporary:

to show that something is changing, growing or developing:

The population of the world is increasing very fast.

I’m talking about the present simple and present continuous.

Michael is at university. He’s studying History.
