Both Aristotle and Thomas Aquainas developed Proofs for Gods Existence. The Proof for
Gods Existence, used here, is analogous to those Proofs:
We start out by assuming that the material universe is finite. We also assume that cause and
effect exist and operate in the finite material universe. Thus, for every cause there is an effect,
and for every effect there is a prior cause. For example, on a billiards table when a billiard ball
is pushed and moved and hits another billiard ball and moves it, this is an instance of cause and
effect. The arm of the person is the efficient cause of the first billiard ball moving and then
hitting the other billiard ball which is moved by reason of the prior cause of the first billiard ball.
Now, once we realize that the finite material universe is constituted by a large number of cause
and effect relationships it becomes apparent that if we were able to search back in time, we
should be able to trace back from the subsequent cause to the prior effect, which is in turn an
effect from a prior cause, and so on and so forth. But you see, since in a finite material universe,
for every effect there must have been an antecedent cause, this would lead to an infinite regress
or series of antecedent causes. However, it is clear that the infinite cannot be contained within
the finite. Thus, an infinite series of prior causes is impossible in a finite material universe.
Accordingly, it must be concluded that there was a First Cause, Uncaused Cause, namely God,
who initiated the Causal Chain which brought the finite material universe into existence.
Alternatively, if the material universe is infinte, we can once again observe that there is
