PROTOCOLS

• The World Wide Web – Created by Tim Berners-lee in 1989 the world wide web allowed the public to use the internet for the first time and instantly grew popular. It is now a basic commodity in the modern world.

• 3G or 4G – Both of these communication standards were created by the International telecommunications union for mobile phones so that they could connect to the internet wirelessly, 4G however is faster and smoother than 3G.

• Bluetooth – A short-range wireless interconnection between devices, bluetooth allows you to send and receive information wirelessly as long as you are connected and a short distance away from the sender

HOW THEY ARE USED

• The world wide web is used to communicate across the entire planet and to share information with people. It was originally used by the military as a way of getting orders to troops. It has since become a massive bureau of documents and information.

• 3G/4G are used by the public to connect to the internet wirelessly, this can be from anywhere at anytime.

• Bluetooth is used to move information and documents between connected devices, this only works when the two devices are in close proximity to one another. You could take an important file from your laptop and send it to your phone through bluetooth.

METHODS

• Email – This method of communication uses computer networks to transmit a message to a recipient on the same network. In recent years they run on a store and forward system that sends the message and stores it till the receiver is online.

• SMS/MMS – Multimedia messaging service and Short message service. While SMS allows text to be sent between two devices. The addition of MMS allows images and other media to be sent to aswell.

SERVICES

• ISP – an ISP is an organization that provides services for customers to access the internet. They can be commercial or privately owned or owned by the community.

• Domain – an identification string that defines a realm of control over the internet usually a web domain for a web page.
