Resounding ImpactThe Bloomsburg community is made up of more than 1,000 faculty and staff, nearly 10,000 students and 67,000 alumni. Each individual, profoundly influenced by his or her experience at Bloomsburg University, has a story to tell. A first-generation college student. A dedicated teacher. A record-setting student-athlete. A successful alumnus. These stories illustrate our university’s commitment to preparing students for personal and professional success.

Individual successes and moments in time combine to create a bigger picture — that among the Bloomsburg University family, each of us has the opportunity to influence the lives of many others.

We’re creating success stories . . . we’re changing lives.

By providing the means for these individuals to succeed, we enable them to go out and share that success with others in their local and global communities.

But we need your help to keep the momentum going. That’s why we’ve launched the It’s Personal campaign.

The priorities of this campaign are to continue providing academic and athletic scholarships for students, offering a high-quality education by attracting and retaining outstanding faculty, and better preparing all students for their careers. Our university’s continued success depends upon our valuable partnership with people like you.

I encourage you to make a gift. In doing so you WILL make a resounding impact on the future of our beloved institution.

—David Soltz, Ph.D., University President

There is an amazing momentum at Bloomsburg University. We’re different than we were even a decade ago: greater in number, broader in programs, more engaged with our community and world.

Still, we passionately hold on to who we are and remain committed to what we do best: preparing students for personal and professional success.

We put students first — hard-working, motivated students who are prepared to meet the changing needs of our Commonwealth, our nation and the world.

For more than 175 years, Bloomsburg University has been providing educational experiences that transform lives. We take an interest in every student, developing men and women who use the privilege of a college education not just for self but for the good of others.

Our graduates — many first-generation college students from across Pennsylvania and beyond — point to their experiences at Bloomsburg as setting the course for future accomplishments.

Meeting Challenges and Seizing Opportunities. Together.Public universities that thrive today do so with a healthy mix of public and private funds. Like many schools, we’ve had to adjust to cutbacks in traditional sources of revenue.

We’re thankful for the funding we receive from the Commonwealth. But state dollars, essential to our fiscal health, can no longer be stretched to fulfill our goals.

State Funding

Opportunities come alive with your actions and gifts.

In 1984, state appropriations accounted for 65 percent of Bloomsburg University’s revenues. By 2014, that figure dropped to just 25 percent.

While our focus is toward the future, we can also look to Bloomsburg University’s history for perspective and inspiration. The iconic Carver Hall, the jewel of our beautiful campus, stands as a testimony to personal initiative and the powerful impact a few individuals can have.

Carver Hall — originally named Institute Hall — was built thanks to the generous contributions of local community members. Just two days after the building’s dedication, university founder Henry Carver sounded a challenge to three students — to raise an additional $1,100 to secure a bell for the brand new building.

Henry Carver had the bold confidence that those students could raise the needed funds in just one day. Sure enough, the goal was met before nightfall. And a month later, in June 1867, the one-ton bell was hoisted to the position above campus from which it would ring for more than a century.

Today we have the opportunity to celebrate the Carver Hall bell as a symbol of the very powerful and personal nature of giving. Throughout the It’s Personal campaign, we will mark milestones with the ringing of a restored Carver Hall bell. Its sounding will remind us of the far-reaching impact that each gift will have in the continued success of Bloomsburg University.
