  • “ It is time for a revival and the pioneers in that great march from darkness to light should be the youth of the nation. Study something about your own culture. Learn to live and work together and accomplish your future which is the future of the entire nation.

    - SWAMI CHINMAYANANDA -

  • Message from the

    Chancellor

Ancient Indian culture has a very rich heritage of knowledge in literally all aspects of

life. Embedded in the uniquely precise language of Sanskrit, this knowledge bank

covers various streams, including the sciences, the arts, economics, politics,

philosophy, psychology and even organisational leadership; in fact, no field of human

endeavour remains untouched by this vast treasury of wisdom. It is an unfortunate

reality, however, that such an impressive body of well-tested knowledge has been

obscured from society, particularly in terms of its application potential, with the

    passage of time.

Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth (CVV) aims to reverse that trend by cultivating

scholarship designed to rediscover, revive and restore such knowledge to its rightful

place in our collective mind in an innovative and practical manner that also enables

this intellectual capital to grow and find new expression in the modern-day context.

Concretely, CVV seeks to incrementally offer a wide range of programs in the

discipline of Sanskrit and Indic traditions, thereby serving the needs of a variety of

students. Academic exploration here is enhanced by studies in character

development, with the larger aim of empowering students not only for independent,

critical thinking, but also holistic growth and self-unfoldment. It is additionally a goal

of CVV to enable its students to become employable in the field of their choice.

Imbued with a wider vision of the world and a deep knowledge of their innermost self,

graduates can then, it is hoped, effectively participate in nation-building while

embodying the noble spirit of service to humanity. The dynamic Rishi culture of

ancient India – whose achievements influenced the history of Asia as we know it – left

its hallmark of excellence on multiple fields of knowledge. Many of these

contributions are still buried in the dust of indifference or prejudice and await

rediscovery. But the task of reinterpreting them for a particular generation always

falls to a truly extraordinary soul.

In our times, that exceptional soul has been Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda,

whose creativity and conviction alone has been the inspiration for the remarkable

nature of Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth and its mission to 'exceed excellence'. We bow

to that great exemplar of the highest possible knowledge, and solicit His blessings

along with those of Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda, for the success of this most

    special institution.

  • Vice Chancellor

Education is truly valuable when it leads to the flowering of the true personality

of young minds. It should bring out the best in them and lead them towards the

larger cause of nation-building. These young minds should build self-

confidence, take pride in their rich heritage, and equip themselves with the

mindset and skills required to address the current challenges. They are the

building blocks of a progressive society. We at Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth

are truly committed to developing such individuals through our educational

    programs.

There are no shortcuts to excellence—it is the collective effort of the

management, faculty, and students that will get us closer to achieving our

dream. I look forward to working with all our stakeholders and well-wishers in

    this journey.

It's our collective responsibility to realise the maxim laid by Lord Krishna in the

Bhagavad Gita: nahi jñānena sadṛśam pavitramiha vidyate – there is nothing

    more pristine than knowledge.

It's my pleasure to welcome every student and the parent sharing this vision

through the portals of CVV. I am confident that you will feel proud on being

associated with us and make us equally proud with your academic excellence.

    Message from the

  • About usChinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth (CVV) is a Deemed-to-be-University in the 'de novo'

category, started in 2016, the centenary year of the inspirational Visionary and

Founder of Chinmaya Mission, and renowned Vedantic master and teacher par

excellence, Swami Chinmayananda. CVV, with its headquarters at Chinmaya

International Foundation (Adi Sankara Nilayam, Ernakulam, Kerala, India), has been

established as a torchbearer for the preservation of Indian cultural heritage and its

    knowledge traditions through higher education.

Founded on the principles of Purity, Spirituality, Practicality and Innovation, our

core mission is to blend the ancient and time-tested wisdom of India with present-

day knowledge fields. It is breaking new ground where necessary and adopting the

merits of all that has come before, but always leaning towards the winds of

innovation. Striking a careful balance between the old and new, the organization

offers common streams of courses with unique electives and supplementary

subjects, with an intent to mould the teenagers of today into well-rounded,

responsible, value-grounded, young adults that contribute to the nation, and the

    world at large.

    The University

  • Our Founder

Swami Tejomayananda is a living portrait of simplicity with depth, humility with

courage, and wisdom with devotion. Always jovial, smiling, and welcoming, he is readily

accessible and approachable to all who seek the knowledge of Vedanta from him.

Born into a Maharashtrian family on June 30, 1950, in Madhya Pradesh, India, Sudhakar

Kaitwade was not spiritually inclined as such. At the age of 20, a year away from getting

his Master's degree in Physics, Sudhakar intended to pursue a teaching career.

Sudhakar's revolutionary change came about the day he was attracted to a large

banner announcing Swami Chinmayananda's talks on the 3rd Chapter of the Bhagavad

Gita. A couple of talks later, he was so thoroughly inspired that he sought the

permission of his mother to join Chinmaya Mission's residential Vedanta course at

    Sandeepany Sadhanalaya in Mumbai.

Upon completion of the Vedanta course in 1975, Sudhakar was initiated into Chinmaya

Mission's monastic order of acharyas (teachers) as Brahmachari Vivek Chaitanya. Over

the years, he served as an acharya at Mission centres in Bhopal, Kanpur, and Sidhabari.

He conducted the first residential Vedanta course in Hindi at 'Sandeepany Himalayas' in

    Sidhabari.

On October 21, 1983, Swami Chinmayananda initiated him into sannyasa, bestowing

upon him the name Swami Tejomayananda. He was then appointed as acharya of the

Sandeepany Sadhanalaya ashram in Mumbai, where he taught two consecutive

    residential Vedanta courses in English.

In 1989, Swami Tejomayananda was posted to the Chinmaya Mission at San Jose in

California, USA, where he remained as acharya until 1993. After Pujya Gurudev Swami

Chinmayananda attained Mahasamadhi, he became the Head of Chinmaya Mission

    Worldwide.

As the Head of Chinmaya Mission Worldwide, Swami Tejomayananda-now known in the

Mission as Pujya Guruji-continuously and dynamically pursued his guru's grand

spiritual and organisational vision. Progressive in thinking and precise in decision-

making, he has inspired and executed many notable and innovative projects, including

the Chinmaya International Residential School in Coimbatore, the Chinmaya Centre of

World Understanding in New Delhi, the Chinmaya International Foundation near Cochin,

the Chinmaya Heritage Centre in Chennai, the expansion of the Chinmaya Mission

Hospital in Bangalore, and the still-in-progress Chinmaya Vibhooti Vision Centre near

    Pune.

  • Our Mission

As a Deemed-to-be-University for Sanskrit and Indic Traditions, Chinmaya

Vishwavidyapeeth(CVV) will exceed excellence in higher learning and research

with the objective of exploring, conserving and sharing the contemporary

relevance of Indian cultural heritage and Indian Knowledge Traditions

(IKT). CVV aims to integrate the best practices of modern

pedagogical advances with the beauty of the traditional

Gurukula model of learning. This will prepare students

to address contemporary challenges, and thus

inspire them to leave a positive impact on the

world as confident and cultured contributors to

    the society.

    We strive to

S Create a passion in students for Indic

    traditions, with special emphasis on

    Sanskrit, Philosophy and Music.

    S Attract world-class faculty with a deep

commitment to teaching and research in

    Indic traditions and art forms.

  • The logo of Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth, a composite of 5 elements, represents a

luminous world that results from the transformation of the individual who melds

the twin elements of knowledge and spirituality – an inner and an external

transformation – to become a valuable and positive member of society. The logo

symbolises the fully integrative cycle by which such a transformation is effected.

The pursuit of knowledge, indicated by the open book, reaches its fulfilment

through the transformed individual. The lotus in blossom symbolizes the

transformed individual. Such transformation of the personality is made possible

only by an education that is imbued with spiritual vision, which resonates in the

Om. The luminous earth indicates the possibilities for the future of our world,

which we believe such individuals can create. At the very heart of the logo is the

signature ‘Om’ of Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda that symbolizes the holistic

vision of Spirituality, Purity, Applicability and Innovation – the very Core Principles

    of Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth.

The Vision for CVV – 'Culture through knowledge': vidyayā saṃskṛtiḥ, coined by

Swami Tejomayananda, the Head of Chinmaya Mission, is at the base of the logo

declaring the vision and mission of the Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth.

  • Core Values

The Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth envisions Spirituality, Purity, Practicality and

    Innovation as its foundational principles.

Spirituality : The personal quest that leads the individual to an appreciation of a

higher reality. The philosophy of Vedanta and the wisdom of the saints have

always guided humanity towards a larger vision of life. Students are encouraged

to listen, read, and reflect upon inspirational literature that is conducive to their

inner refinement and self-unfoldment. All academics programs offered at the

Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth are therefore aligned to encourage such a quest.

Purity : By communicating the wisdom of Indian Knowledge Traditions through

their source texts, Chinamya Vishwavidyapeeth aims to stimulate youth with

Indian Knowledge Traditions to create living repositories who will in turn nurture

the tradition for the future. Knowledge of Sanskrit which is an integral part of

learning, will be a key enabler for the study of these original sources.

Practicality : By blending the wisdom of the ancient with the current education

fields, CVV offers programs on topics that will lead the students to find

respectable living through gainful employment. All this is done while maintaining

the highest degree of academic rigour.

Innovation : To spark the spirit of conceptual and strategic innovation among the

modern youth, CVV aims to transfer the wealth of ancient Indian wisdom, along

with contemporary knowledge, through innovative pedagogy and teaching

methodologies. Through this, it strives to be progressive, while retaining the

    current best practices.

  • Approach to learning

    1. De Novo in action: the Unique Modular Design of the CoursesTrue to our unique positioning, we have arrived at a philosophy called “Design

Your Degree” to develop the new academic programs. This will enable CVV to

shape the individual and prepare them not only for a job or further learning, but

    also for a life time.

To graduate in any major discipline of their choice, the students must take a

certain number of courses from each category mentioned below:

    Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth | 10

    DESIGNyour

    degree#

¥ Core Courses: Enable students to specialize in an area and develop expertise for gainful living.

¥ Electives: Belong to the core discipline chosen by a student and enable him/her to opt for a specialization to get deeper knowledge.

Together, the core courses and the electives form the Majors.

¥ Minors: Guide the students to explore and discover their true-life interests from other disciplines in an informed fashion, leading to true mind expansion. This is applicable to only undergraduate programs

¥ Foundation Courses: Enable students to develop a good understanding of Ancient Indian Knowledge Systems.

¥ Proficiency Courses: Equip students to face the competitive world by developing proficiency in areas/skills that are imperative to succeed in today's workplace.

¥ Self-Immersion Courses: Introduce to the student the value of deep involvement and introspection through life- transformation activities.

While the courses in some categories such as Foundation and Proficiency are

mandatory, the students can choose courses under Electives and Minors

based on their interest and requirement. This offers students the flexibility to

design, to a great extent, the output they want from the program, to a great

extent, and hence our approach is defined as 'Design Your Degree'.

The first set of academic programs at the undergraduate level has been

designed keeping this philosophy in mind. As CVV grows and expands, it is this

foundational principle that will serve as a guiding post.

This five-year Integrated Masters (IM) flagship program is delivered in the Gurukula

mode. There are two kinds of programs offered under this integrated degree. They

    are:

    1. IM – Advaita VedantaThis five-year Integrated Masters (IM) flagship program in Sanskrit – Advaita

Vedānta is designed for students desirous of studying Advaita Vedānta in the

traditional way. This school of Indian philosophy is based on three texts – the

Upaniṣads, the Brahmasūtras and the Bhagavad Gīta. These are also called

'Prasthānatrayī'. The commentaries of Sri Ādi Śaṅkarācārya on 'Prasthānatrayī' are a

composite treatise for the study of Advaita, and therefore the curriculum covers all

commentaries of Sri Ādi Śaṅkarācārya. To understand the concepts of Advaita

Vedānta one has to be familiar with the concepts of other schools of Philosophy,

such as Nyāya and Sāṅkhya. Hence, the Integrated Masters program for Advaita

Vedānta will also include important concepts of these schools. This course has

been designed to include the important aspects of the most prominent traditions of

    Indian philosophy.

  • Assessments & Examinations

It's important for the students to understand the examinations and the

assessment process at Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth, from finding out the

times and modalities of the exams and assessments, to accessing the results.

The organization has proven ability and an adequate setup for conducting all

its examinations. A clear, well- planned calendar is followed to schedule the

    examinations.

The central evaluation system is followed. Evaluation is on the basis of both

continuous internal assessment and end semester examinations. Final results

are normally announced within 10 working days of the last examination. The

components of the continuous Internal Assessment include quizzes,

assignments, tests, presentations, term papers, and so on. The weightage for

each of these components is announced right at the beginning of the course.

The performance of a student will be represented by two indices: Semester

Grade Point Average ( ) and Cumulative Grade Point Average ( ). SGPA CGPA

CGPA = Total of (course credits in passed courses × grade point)/Total of

    (course credits in passed

SGPA = Total of (course credits × grade points)/Total of (course credits).

Note: To compute SGPA, all the registered credits are taken into account,

whereas to compute CGPA, only the earned credits are considered.

  • Welcome to the maternal home of Adi Shankaracharya, the great spiritual

luminary, and the torchbearer of the renaissance of Vedanta. It is fitting that this

is the Headquarters of Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth. Set in Kerala's lush, green

country-side, amidst temple shrines and lily ponds, the Chinmaya Eswar

Gurukula (CEG) campus offers a serene ambience that attracts aspirants who

come in search of peace and solitude from the world over.

The Kochi campus is situated at a distance of 47 km from Kochi International

Airport and 28 km from Ernakulam South Railway station. Public buses, taxis and

auto rickshaws are available for the students to travel to Ernakulam. Train

connections to Mumbai, Goa, Bengaluru, Chennai and other cities of India are

plentiful. Some of the trains do stop at Piravom Road Railway station that is

around 7 km away from the campus.

Students join a university with a wide array of interests or they discover them while

they are on campus. Such shared interests facilitate creation of clubs that offer a

platform for students to express themselves in creative ways.

One such effort is the ' ' Club'. While the activities are mainly in the areas of Bharata

music and dance, we believe the students involved would also develop leadership

and management lessons while they organize and execute activities and events.

  • The education provided through the programs are carefully

chosen and delicately balanced to enable a wide variety of

    choices for the student.

The path ahead for a graduate of the Chinmaya

Vishwavidyapeeth from its courses is as follows:

S Gain an in-depth knowledge of Sanskrit and Ancient Indian

Knowledge Traditions and eventually become torch bearers

    of these traditions.

S Broaden one's skill set in contemporary subjects like

Management, Psychology, Commerce and others leading to

UG, PG and PhD degrees in the respective domains, before

    employment.

S Join Public or Private Sector enterprises to contribute to

    self-development as well as nation-building.

S Work for NGOs or launch one's own NGO focusing on societal

    development.

S Be an entrepreneur in the social and business domain by
